Sniff.
Granted a broken clock is right twice a day, but this might cause some concern at the White House…
Here’s a wonderful story about Russell Kirsch, a brilliant man who Obama would say hadn’t done anything amazing on his own. 🙁

Open Question: Sunday afternoon I saw a family capturing tiny little crabs on a beach in West Vancouver, BC. They appeared to have a fairly large bagful of them.
For argument’s sake, let’s assume they don’t own a crab fishing license.
Does anyone definitively know if this is legal or illegal? I’m just curious.

Does anyone definitively know if this is legal or illegal? I’m just curious.
Well that would depend on who in the local “police service” is going to show up to adjudicate. As in “More Pavilions At Folkfest” @ 1.52 yesterday.
Chris, point taken. But seriously, I am interested to know if it is illegal in Canada (or B.C.) to go down to a beach and remove hundreds of the little one – two centimetre diameter crabs.
Robert W., what you described sounds illegal.
Robert W.:

All female crabs must be released.
Re: Etta James “Gotta Serve Somebody.”
Well, I served the devil for 14 years–and one day she left………….!! Whew! That was a long haul!
Thanx!
Robert W. (Vancouver),
More than likely they were Green Shore Crab … there is a limit of 75 on them … you need a license for anything that has a limit.
Heads-up:
Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak will guest on The Steve Madely Show today 8-9am eastern at http://www.cfra.com
Have a look at this vacuous nonsense (I’d suggest a stiff drink and a comfortable chair):
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/is-it-time-for-the-second-coming-of-trudeaumania/article4484207/
And while we’re on the subject of vacuous nonsense from Bell Globe Media, or whatever it’s called now, I have to say that I was absolutely appalled by Canada AM this AM (not that I watch it, but my wife and my Rottweiler George like to have background “news” on while they’re getting ready for work), to wit:
Poor Michael Kane was explaining how excited he was to see Dieppe Uncovered last evening (which airs again this week several times and which blows a very serious hole in the Liberal narrative about the last seventy years of Canadian history — check out History Television), explaining that his own father was taken prisoner during the operation. The three ladies hosting just couldn’t wait to have Mr. Kane off the air so they could get to the big stories — the first being the Oprah Winfrey interview with Rihanna (the clip showing her crying about how Chris Brown was just trying to help her singing…), the second being a piece in The Mop and Pail about Marci Ien at the gym and the third being about how “some of President Obama’s critics” (dripping with derision) are upset about how the children of illegals are rushing to sign up for US Citizenship.
Circling back to the start of this post, my wife asked me what I thought about the children of illegals thingee (she completely understood the Rihanna stuff: “Where are the feminists?”), to which I noted that the Democrats’ tactics make the Liberals’ tactics look like a pleasant, if mildly bad, golf game.
How am I supposed to explain this to George?
Robert . . . They may be very sick today if they ate them . . There is a Red Tide Alert for the coastal waters and anything that lives in or crawls on the ocean bottom is verboten to eat .
FYI . . .

And further, may I add (an even stiffer drink and an even more comfortable chair is in order):
http://updatednews.ca/2012/08/18/ndp-leader-considers-northern-gateway-pipeline-dead/
There he goes again; that’s four now:
1. Attacking Conrad Black as “the British criminal”,
2. The “Dutch Disease”,
3. Let’s give money to the IMF to bail our Europe.
4. Northern Gateway is dead.
On the other hand, I think the advertisement for Anger Management, where Charlie Sheen walks away from a train wreck and says, “Everybody deserves a twenty-fourth chance”, is priceless.
On the other, other hand, considering the Timson article mentioned in my last post, I’ve changed my opinion about Stephen Harper…
I used to think he was brilliant. Now, I think he’s brilliant and a vampire (I’m sorry, I can’t say anything more — you’ll have to wait 70 years to get the truth out of me!).
Etta James is the best. I was fortunate to catch her show back in the seventies when she opened for a popular British band of the time. Great show, better than Mick and his pals.
Merkel’s Reich: “It’s fired with coal.”
“Germany’s increasing coal consumption is part of a global return to the fossil fuel that’s cheaper than most alternatives.”
“while the collapsing cost of carbon permits means there’s little penalty for burning coal.”

“Merkel’s Green Shift Forces Germany to Burn More Coal”
“Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government says RWE AG (RWE)’s new power plant that can supply 3.4 million homes aids her plan to exit nuclear energy and switch to cleaner forms of generation. It’s fired with coal.
The startup of the 2,200-megawatt station near Cologne last week shows how Europe’s largest economy is relying more on the most-polluting fuel. Coal consumption has risen 4.9 percent since Merkel announced a plan to start shutting the country’s atomic reactors after last year’s Fukushima disaster in Japan.
Germany’s largest utilities RWE and EON AG (EOAN) are shunning cleaner-burning natural gas because it’s more costly, while the collapsing cost of carbon permits means there’s little penalty for burning coal. Wind and solar projects, central to Germany’s plans to reduce nuclear energy and cut the release of heat- trapping gases, can’t produce electricity around the clock.”

“US record lows outpace record highs 127 to 4 this weekend”
“Since we were treated to scads of news articles by the MSM on how many record highs happened in July, it seems only fair that we report on the multitude of record lows that occurred this weekend in the USA, and I doubt we’ll see the sort of coverage the highs got. A number of these record lows go back into the past 100 years or more.

A big thanks to everyone for the feedback on my question about removing little crabs from the beach.
James, I did just call the number you provided. The woman who answered wasn’t sure what the rules are for the little crabs. She did give me another number to call: 604-664-9250 This is the Steveston office in Richmond. They’re closed today but I left a voice mail and will hopefully hear back soon as to what’s what.

Revenge of the irritating narcissists:
“Some quirky policy resolutions often come from political party conventions. This one ranks up there as one of the wackiest.
At the Green Party convention in Sidney, British Columbia, delegates have overwhelmingly voted in favour of an emergency resolution which tasks party leader Elizabeth May to ask the Queen for a Royal Inquiry into the Robo-call scandal.
‘If the government won’t call for an inquiry, our only option is the Queen,’ one delegate said in favour of the resolution, passed Sunday.
Another delegate said he doesn’t support the monarchy but that the Greens should ‘hold their noses’ and make the request.”
