You Are Asked, And Then You Weren’t

The twitter feed gone horribly wrong goes mainstream;

In a statement, Cory Oxelgren, president of the NDP, said the party launched a website Tuesday on which it invited comments directed to Wall about the government’s proposed labour law changes. The timing corresponded with the launch of the NDP caucus’s “consultation tour” on the same issue, but was a separate effort.
Dozens of comments were received on the wereyouasked.ca website, which was set up to post remarks directly to a Twitter feed under a “Saskatchewan NDP” banner and with a popular #skpoli hashtag used for sorting tweets of provincial political interest.
Many of the comments indicated support for Wall and the Sask. Party, which appeared ironic on Twitter under the NDP heading, which was later changed to “SKLabour Review.” Some were negative regarding the NDP and organized labour in general.
Several were harsh in tone — including one that read, “Tommy Douglas, not dead enough.” Another said, “Time to kill #uniongreed once and for all.”
“We expected and welcomed a diverse range of views on the government’s proposed labour law changes,” Oxelgren’s statement said. “Party staff felt that comments on the website should not be censored . . . unfortunately, anonymous contributors posted extremely hateful — in some cases very personal — attacks.”

Emphasis of bald-faced lie, mine.
I’ve emailed Star Phoenix writer Joe Couture to correct the NDP accusation of SaskParty involvement. Let’s see if he updates the report.

  1. 1. Invite comments from the public.
    2. Receive comments from the public.
    3. Delete all comments from the public “out of respect for healthy, democratic debate”.
    4. Aver that the public who left comments are “Sask. Party activists.”
    5. Walk away rubbing your sore arse after confirming yet again that your party, and your leadership, is a complete and utter joke.
    SDA 57, Saskatchewan NDP 0.

  2. Personally, I would have liked to see re-posts of the average leftists comments into the twitter feed. Swap out a name or two, then when the whining about civility comes in, well . . .

  3. “Tommy Douglas, not dead enough.”
C’mon, it’s impossible not to think “Kate” when you see those words.

  4. Personally, I would have liked to see re-posts of the average leftists comments sent to Conservatives put into the twitter feed. Swap out a name or two, then when the whining about civility comes in, well . . .

  5. Does anybody else picture a stunned blackened face with hair smoking and teeth clenching an exploded cigar butt saying : “respect for healthy, democratic debate”
    AHHHhahahahahahahaha – Losers!

  6. for what it’s worth, the were you asked website at http://wereyouasked.ca is open and accepting comments to be sent to the preimier. I let Mr.Wall know what a great job he’s doing. I’m sure he’d like to hear more!

  7. Just sent Brad a message at wereyouasked – doubtful that he will get it, but that not the point.
The actual point of this for the NDP – by collecting both your full name and postal code, is to start developing their hit list. It will not work, but that never stopped the tolerant left from trying.

  8. Perhaps in the future they’d be happier if SDA’s readership simply posted some of those awesome quotes from Tommy’s masters thesis?
Who would they blame for the hate then?

  9. Should “Tommy Douglas, not dead enough.” be the motto on the Saskatchewan license plate? Much better than that “Land of Living Skies” crap.

  10. I told Brad Wall to keep up the good work!! HEHEHE I love it! SDA definately gets results.

  11. The NDP are so incredibly stupid. Every stunt that they initiate has a habit of blowing up in their faces yet they persist, completely oblivious to the fact that Saskatchewanians have had their fill of fear, loathing and envy that is so characteristic of socialism.
When personally attacking the leader of the opposing party is no longer an option, the NDP’s complete lack of ideas and foresight is certainly revealed.
But I suppose that when your entire caucus could fit comfortably in a broom closet, new ideas are hard to come by.

  12. You all should be glad, you’d be getting charged with a crime in Great Britain OR here if some so called “conservative” (NOT) SDA’ers have their way. (we won’t even get into the left’s urges of oppression & suppression)

  13. Unfortunately … they’re like cockroaches …. stomp a few and the next day a new bunch of eggs is hatched.

  14. The ironic thing about these stunts by the supposed “smarter than thou” of society is that they constantly underestimate their opponent’s ability to undermine it. I’d be insulted if it wasn’t so funny.

  15. Meanwhile, the Ontario NDP limousine has a license sticker that expired in March.

If you ride around in a limousine, you’re part of the 1%, right?

  16. Would our poor agricultural community take a 50% cut in gross pay? Would you kate work for 12.00 an hour? That’s why i support the NDP.

  17. Would our poor agricultural community take a 50% cut in gross pay? Would you kate work for 12.00 an hour? That’s why i support the NDP.Why shouls 75% of workers take cuts in pay and pensions.

  18. Wow ….what kind of clueless communications committee do the NDP have anyway? Wasn’t there at least one person who might have said “Is there any way this thing could go sideways?”
