Leslie- I was long gone from the area, at the time of the killing, but I’ve heard accounts of endless RCMP money spent to protect Wiebo. There was also an incident a couple of years ago, when the victims brother bumped into him at the local grocery store. No surprise, the victim’s brother was the one who faced charges. For all the RCMP surveillance, they still couldn’t stop him from mounting a new campaign of bombings, nowhere near his commune. It sounds like you live in the area. I hope this can give you some measure of closure.

What bothers me most about Wiebo is not his actions so much as the self righteousness behind the actions. How full of yourself do you have to be to not only decide that the oil and gas industry is doing you harm but to actually take up arms (explosives) against them? How self righteous do you have to be to kill a kid joy riding on your property and then never admit to it?
My buddy operated a well 3.5 kms north of Weibo’s place, it was an anadarko (now cnrl)site and he arrived one morning to find a sheep with it’s throat slit and blood dripping from it hanging from the well site separator skid door.
Close circuit tv on that site after that.
The man was a schemer and murderer who played the media for what he could hoping for the payout.

No not really pill. I’m viewing with alarm the difference in the police response. Warning shot gets you jail time, dead teenager gets you 24/7 police protection? How does that work? We don’t have the Castle Doctrine here pill, as much as I would like it if we did.

Thing is though if your kids where being harassed by moving trucks going rodeo style at 4 in the morning around kids in tents. You would shoot as well, if they where lobbing beers from moving trucks at children. The girl was accidentally shot. Where was this 14 year olds parents. Any man who shoots a gun at a moving target into the yard when all his kids are supposedly in the yard is not very protective of his kids. Especially if he was such a bad shot that the murder was ‘accidental’.
As for questions about who pulled the trigger, if someone slipped on my porch and died I’d be potentially looking at the very least a liability claim…the authorities didn’t even go that far. Nothing.
Coach, I just hope the family, a very good family, can find peace over it all someday. The rest of the country should be concerned. The Caledonia example is a good one. In fact, he’s had the county roads by his place iced with nails on more than one occasion.
