    No. It was actually a little less efficient than the old tax it replaced in terms of what it raked in as a % of GDP.
    De-indexing was bad, but revenues as a %GDP did not increase much. Taxes were cut significantly in the late ’90s, especially the corporate income tax.
    When the transfers were cut (should be cut to zero), provinces had to come up with innovative solutions other than ‘more welfare’. This has been much discussed on Financial Post.
    The ‘infrastructure crisis’ is a work of fiction outside of Quebec.
    @Phantonm: wow straight for the deflection. ‘Spending is bad but-GUN REGISTRY’. It’s true that spending eventually started go up once the deficit was conquered, a trend only continued and accelerated by Harper. Inflating the dollar? WTF?
