Too bad the conservatives aka liberal lite government don’t have the balls to tackle our bullshit legal system and override these judicial appointees.
The charter needs to be ripped up. That is the root cause of everything that is wrong in today’s world.
These justices probably know professor Kathleen Mahoney, Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, whose long-time live-in partner was — and might still be — Phil Fontaine,three-time National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. http://aboriginalstudiescircle.com/?page_id=11
Ironically, Fontaine ended up in a residential school, which delivered him from his poverty-stricken existence on a Manitoba reserve and which eventually helped him graduate from the University of Manitoba.
Fontaine is up to his yin-yang in Aboriginal politics and likes to portray Natives as special and different from the rest of us. It’s certainly helped him climb up the financial ladder. Take a look at the positions he’s held which have ensured him lots of perks and privileges most Canadians can only dream of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Fontaine
Isnt Cpl. Monty Robinson first nations?
Isn’t Cpl. Monty Robinson who killed a guy while drunk/obstructing justice aboriginal? Wouldn’t the Gladue case apply in this instance?
The second link taught me something very valuable. If I ever drive drunk and kill someone, my best bet legally is to flee the scene, go home, and drink some more. Seems a little counterintuitive, but what ever works.

“If I ever drive drunk and kill someone, my best bet legally is to flee the scene, go home, and drink some more.”
Wrong. That would be obstruction of justice.
What happened was that you were so shook up and disoriented that you wondered around for 16 hours barely remembering anything. You didn’t go home because you couldn’t remember where home was but your memory is all coming back now.
Do you learn nothing from the Kennedys?
“Wrong. That would be obstruction of justice.”
Well no, see, ’cause as an alchoholic I couldn’t help it.
Everytime I think we have maxed out our stupidity factor in the supreme court they prove me wrong. I thought that their primary purpose was to define established law . What was I thinking?

Are there any other aspects of Sharia you’d like to see instituted in Canada, new?
“The soft racism of low expectations” is in full force here. Sadly, the people who are most likely to suffer as a result of this asinine judgement are, in fact, other aboriginals: disadvantaged aboriginals, who can’t escape the hell holes in which they live. (Think those poor little frozen girls and other innocent victims of the pathological behaviour that’s disproportionately displayed by certain members of the citizenry.)
I wonder how victims and future victims feel about the out of touch SCC judges, who are unlikely to ever see a low-life, out of control aboriginal anywhere near their upper-upper class neighbourhoods. What incredible blindness and arrogance. Ironically, Lady Justice’s blindfold has been removed by our judges: affirmative action justice is NO justice.

When do the ancestors of all the children, orphaned or not, who worked in the work houses or the ancestors of all those families that were separated in the poor houses receive compensation and special status?
When are all Canadian children raised in alcoholic/drug addicted one or two parent families going to receive compensation and special status?
How about children removed by social services who spent their childhoods being shuffled from one foster home to another – where is their compensation and special status under the law?
I believe damage of addiction alchol more than addiction to drugs

Go read the March 1995 St. Pierre case at the Supreme Court. A woman was charged with drunk driving, and eventually made the claim that she blew over on the breathalyzer because she consumed two small bottles of vodka while in custody subsequent to being arrested but prior to taking the test. Apparently no evidence of vodka was found in the bottles. The court acquitted her, although only by 5-4. It sure sounds like she managed to sucker some allegedly sharp legal minds.
