Senator Nancy Greene-Raine in a speech before the Canadian Senate;
Honourable senators, I rise to address Bill S-205, an Act to amend the Income Tax Act. If passed, this amendment would give tax credits to Canadians who invest in so-called carbon offsets. While I have no objection to citizens spending their own money in any way they choose, I do not support the government’s giving tax credits for carbon offsets. I say this for several reasons. First and foremost, I consider it an unnecessary and undesirable expense at a time when we should be looking for ways to reduce the tax burden on Canadians. While it is true that the amendment would benefit those who invest in carbon offsets, it would be an expense that would have to be covered by all other taxpayers. I say it is unnecessary because, contrary to the assertions of the honourable senator sponsoring the bill, it addresses an issue that is more and more being questioned by new scientific evidence. We simply do not know that our actions have a significant impact on the global climate, let alone that “the consequences of not acting can be catastrophic,” to quote Senator Mitchell.
Go thank her.

Done with a great deal of appreciation for the truth.
Thanks to SDA for the heads up …. looks like we FINALLY have some clear thinking within our government.
I have just sent a supporting email to her (Senator Nancy Greene Raine). I hope her inbox gets flooded with thank-you’s from sensible Canadians.
Done
I, too, sent my thanks to this obviously intelligent and clear thinking Senator.
We have some common sense in the Senate. It is refreshing to see.
NOW perhaps we can get on with ridding our tax rolls of Suzuki and the CBC.
I just had a bizarre thought go through my mind …. it was something along the lines of …. “KATE FOR SENATOR” ….
Maybe not so bizarre …. if we don’t abolish our Senate … then let’s make it REALLY GOOD ….
…. besides … I heard that Senators have plenty of free time for things like art and puppies …..
Do carbon credits still exist? The market in North America seemed to drop to almost nothing per ton, eventually disappearing. I think the same is happening in Europe. There seemed to be an infinite supply of carbon credits from real and imagined sources. The market price of an infinitely large supply of product is infinitely small. A tax credit for contributing to the infinite supply sounds great. Now if I start selling my fictional crcdits, Fred’s Faerie Farts, can I get into trouble? Nobody else did.
NME666, I appreciate the thought!
E-mail sent. It is nice to see so much common sense expressed by one of our politicos, it doesn’t happen as often as it should.
Done with pleasure.. Banned.. I would put any of those people you mentioned up against” Bonehead” Joe Biden, Of the Bat-ear administration.
Sent the senator a thank you note. Asked the senator to have a chat with her colegues and MP’s to spread the information.
Unfortunately, the speech will be ignored by most of the mass media.
Would be interesting to know, how many people know of the speech outside or SDA.
Sent with pleasure.
Scar – Nancy founded Sun Peaks in Kamloops, the best ski hill in Canada, IMO. I skied there for many years but it was called Tod Mountain back then; it had one chairlift and no line-ups. There is a 3 mile vertical drop under the old chair. Powder at the top in the winter and corn snow all the way down in the spring. A day pass was $5.00. If a person did not stop for lunch you could make 12- 15 runs a day. Just sheer joy!!
At that time the easiest run was called the 5 mile and it was fairly difficult in many places; consequently most of the skiers at Tod were not beginners. Nancy has made the hill a bit more friendly to the novice, I have heard, but if you want a great place to ski with runs that will give you your money’s worth, look no further than Sun Peaks. Beats Whistler.
Thanks for linking, Ron in Kelowna; you who first coined the term “hoax” for the climate change thingy dingy; right here at SDA – the day before Mr. Moncton gave us the whole story, again right here at SDA!
SDA gets results.
Done. (Greene-Raine sounds like a very environmenty kind of name, doesn’t it? I guess irony can be pretty ironic.) phil, get help.

It is to laugh

Thank goodness Harper had the good sense to appoint a senator who wasn’t simply a failed political hack like most of the Liberal senators.
Despite Nancy’s excellent qualifications, it is unfortunate that the BC Liberal government has chosen to have Harper appoint their senators instead of electing them like Alberta. I guess they trust Harper’s judgement.
Done!
Censored….maybe because if you had done even a smidgeon of research you would know that (1) Ms Greene’s name has three “e”‘s, and (2) in British California, senators are appointed, not elected.
We simply do not know that our actions have a significant impact on the global climate, let alone that “the consequences of not acting can be catastrophic,” to quote Senator Mitchell
She’s got not excuse for not knowing.
