  9. 40 years ago is just about the time when Jerry Brown served his first term as governor of California, too. Seems to me he’s the one who got the ball of rot going, if I remember correctly.

    No not really, a few years back the cali government paid off it’s suppliers with IOU’s. Including tax refunds of their constituents, Businesses were not allowed to use those IOUS to pay off their debts to the state( taxes and such) the state required “real” money. Some banks were willing to take on the IOUs betting Obama wasn’t willing to let Cali go under.
    Wonder if they would do so in todays climate.

  12. Several years ago, the state paid employees with “registered warrants”, fancy way of saying “IOU”. All peachy, until the banks decided that giving California a huge loan at zero interest wasn’t exactly enhancing shareholder value, and started refusing them.

  15. Whooo, a CDN point, the Fraser Institute (non-existent in the CDN news media) is actually quoted in the Left Angeles Times. The LA Times under a new editor a few years back tried to appear unbiased (much like our beloved unbiased CBC) so this is either a slip or some kind of internal retribution.

  16. Cappy “California……America’s Ontario”. Ontario is still lagging in bird kill by wind turbines but if McGinty gets his way at Point Pelee, then Ontario will soon be number one in migratory bird kill and Ducks Unlimited (www.ducks.ca) has no sanctuaries for song birds or bats.
