Out of the blue last November, Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) began the (non-union labour) construction of an industrial wind turbine on the grounds of its Family Education Centre, a facility designed to “encourage…people …to discuss their problems and debate the major issues of the times.”
Despite all the places CAW could have located the mammoth structure, it picked Port Elgin, “considered — one of the leading recreational playgrounds in Ontario” for an industrial wind turbine. CAW’s vacant 128-acre property nearby was deemed too environmentally sensitive. Besides, the land had just been subdivided and its lots stood to rake in $2 million. The FEC’s densely-populated neighbourhood didn’t have such sensitivities.

Thanks Kate I’ll keep you posted on an upcoming event Mar 3/12

Port Elgin
When left wing sacred cows meet left wing greed . . . the ironies are too numerous to count. FEC: home of the whopper, in more ways than one.
Having known and enjoyed this location for decades,
I guarantee this bone-headed move will not go down well with the good Citizens of Port Elgin.
May be time to invite Weibo Ludwig back to his old stomping grounds for a little consultation.
Out good fellow poster, BrianR lives in the general neighbourhood. Perhaps he can enlighten us on the mood in the community.
A fine example of the union mentality. Last week lewenza was in London, Ontario, bellowing about the closure of the Caterpillar plant. (For the record, I take no joy in anybody losing their job.)
It wasn’t just a plant closure, it was the end of the world as we know it and society was crumbling all around us and we should all feel really bad about his poor union members.
But if you’re not a card carrying unionist, they’ll trash your neighbourhood to make a buck. Because you just don’t count. You’re not one of “the people”.
BTW, proto environmentalist James Lovelock, creator of the Gaia Hypothesis, has spoken against wind turbines. He says they’re not worth the disastrous effect on the countryside.
But when it comes to the environment, dimwitted dalton knows best.
A Port Elgin community group has launched a boycott of products made by CAW members to protest a wind turbine being erected by the union in town.
So is the CAW more hypocritcal than it is sleazier or vice versa?
All made possible by Dulton’s kow-towing at Gaia’s Greenie Altar and subsidizing the whole eco-boondoggle with taxpayer’s dollars.
In other news, Ontario’s budget watch dog has determined that Ontario cannot fund its Medical or Education systems.
Schools & Hospitals or Wind Turbines. Can’t have both sides of the balance.
“He explained that CAW distributed leaflets to less than half the community in 2004, and held an open house in 2005. Ken went on to say that anyone could have attended the Ontario Municipal Board hearings if they’d wanted. He also added there were postings to the Ontario Environmental Registry. People just needed to look there.”

“‘This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council,’ the voice continued. ‘As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes. Thank you.’ … ‘There’s no point acting all surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display in your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for fifty of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now.’”

Pkuster- Please keep us informed. Here in Lambton County we are fighting similar nonsense.
To borrow a phrase from the Commies, Solidarity Brother!!
Sharks eating sharks.
Everyone wants to be “green”- unless it interferes with their lives or has been proven to be farcical and untrue.
Quote]To make matters worse, the Ontario Environmental Tribunal had just ruled that “the debate was not one about whether wind turbines can cause harm to humans. The evidence…demonstrates that they can, if…placed too close to residents.”[/quote]
The truth is that Set backs (audible level) are just the start of damage. The Windmills inference is picked up by scientific monitoring gear.. Safe Set back could be 200 Miles or more. Who Knows
I don’t take any pleasure in people losing their jobs, either, but I have decided that I will NEVER again buy anything that to my knowledge contains any components manufactured by CAW members. Lewenza is a hypocrite who gives the finger of one hand to Port Elgin residents while at the same time holding out the other hand for grants and subsidies and favourable treatment from taxpayers. To Hell with Lewenza and the CAW!!
Just a minute, CAW’s building the windmill and using NON-UNION labour!!!
This is a HUGE,ENORMOUS scandal! This is TREASON to the Union movement!
It must be a mistake, surely CAW,or any other Union, wouldn’t build ANYTHING without Union labour.
If I had a CAW card,I’d burn it in protest.
they’ll go out of business before long…everything connected with ‘green power’ does…couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch
Energy Conversion Devices files for bankruptcy as solar energy lags

Since you’re essentially preaching to the choir, Kate? Do you ever get tired of writing/posting this stuff? Or..do you still see these articles and think to yourself ‘OMG OMG, a new ‘giant stinkin’ fans post! To the admin portal!’
Actually Kate is doing us a monstrous favor…this is info we sure won’t find on Commie-vision (CBC), or the rest of the left dominated propaganda outlets.
It probably raises the hackles of the intellectually stunted leftards to see their beloved greenie religion taking it in the a….
If you don’t like it feel free to slither back to huffpo…
Hey Ben, she’s not “preaching to the choir” as you put it. I have had numerous conversations with people who had no idea about all the problems with “alternative energy”. The normal news media doesn’t tell us anything about the problems with wind and solar. Cost overruns, huge government subsidies followed by bankruptcies, environmental and health impacts, etc. I have referred many people to this website, and have had positive feedback from many of them (but not all unfortunately) about it. I would say I’ve enlightened at least 10 people, and hopefully more.
We’ve just been through this in Saskatoon. It’s sad that green power is used as a hammer to trash neighborhoods and the people who live in them.
The fans should not be within a mile a community.
Funny how the union uses the Health and safety card when slamming businesses when they want something. They use the guise of health and safety when they have contract disputes and use the media to MSM propagate this. Yet Health and Safety be dammed when the unions want something. Where’s the MSM investigation of the hipocrosy of this.
why do these oversized, noisy, blights on the landscape have to be alongside residential areas or in the middle of scenic areas we advertise to the world as being a reason to visit our country ?
don’t we have the technology to make cables long enough to bring the little bit of power they generate once in a long while to the grid from a spot in the middle of nowhere where nobody has to look at them ? or is it that the government has to show people how much of their money is being wasted in the belief that we’ll be happy about it ?
As a member of the CAW, I can tell you that the way they built this turbine is exactly the way they do everything. And they never back down, even after the plants all close and all their own jobs are gone, because they are dead nuts freakin’ religious crazy.
“Waddya mean we’re not democratic? We rammed everything through all legal like. If you don’t like,it (expletive).” After that you find your car vandalized in the parking lot.
Where does this project advance members benefits? Arbitration research, negotiations, pay/benefits, health and safety? Next they’ll donate to PETA!
There’s a lawsuit here.
There is an aspect to the set-back problem, that has not been mentioned.
Germany for safety reasons has vastly increased setback from other buildings to avoid the danger of…..”throws”.
Apparently these criters ice up and then throw the accumulated ice sometimes for up to 3/4 of a kilometer….
Will Port Elgin have to evacuate in the event of an ice storm?
just wait for a good windstorm…problem solved
what’s ludicrous is that they’re telling us ahead of time that the birdshredders can’t handle high winds before they put them in high wind areas…in effect, saying “it’s a bad idea but we’re doing it anyway”…
Hurricanes deliver fatal blows to wind turbines
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn21468-hurricanes-deliver-fatal-blows-to-wind-turbines.html
Gone with the wind? Hurricanes could destroy the offshore wind farms the US is planning to build in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.
The US Department of Energy set a goal for the country to generate 20 per cent of its electricity from wind by 2030. One-sixth is to come from shallow offshore turbines that sit in the path of hurricanes.
Stephen Rose and colleagues from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, modelled the risk hurricanes might pose to turbines at four proposed wind farm sites. They found that nearly half of the planned turbines are likely to be destroyed over the 20-year life of the farms. Turbines shut down in high winds, but hurricane-force winds can topple them.
In 2007, Texas granted a multimillion-dollar lease for a wind farm site near Galveston, Texas. Rose found it was “the riskiest location to build a wind farm of the four locations examined”.
Each wind farm may cost $175 million. “We want these risks to be known now before we start putting these wind turbines offshore,” says team member Paulina Jaramillo. “We don’t want any backlash when the first one goes down and it costs a lot to replace.”
but it’s all about the now, not the yesterday…
maybe they can hire some islamics to help them destroy anything pre-mohammed
‘Digger nearly destroyed Betws Mountain’s Neolithic stone row’
http://www.southwalesguardian.co.uk/news/9529953._Digger_nearly_destroyed_Betws_Mountain_s_Neolithic_stone_row_/
THE man who discovered the Neolithic stone row on Betws Mountain has told how the historic find came within 20 minutes of being destroyed.
Freelance archaeologist Dr Sandy Gerrard said a digger working on the construction of the 15-turbine MynyddyBetwswindfarm had to be halted in its tracks.
“In fairness to the developers they stopped work instantly – we have no criticism at all on that score,”
he told the Guardian.
“Asit is, the rowhas been cut in two places by the windfarm access road.
“What does concern us is that at no time was anyone asked to carry out a basic survey of what’s visible on the ground.
“Potentially, this stone row is incredibly important – it looks like the type you get on Dartmoor.”
Meanwhile, the local manwhoaccompanied the archaeologists to the site to show them a series of cairnshasvoiced concerns.
Dai Davies, of Cwmgors, said: “I know that mountain like the back of my hand and it breaks my heart to see what’s going on up there.”
