Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Listened to this in its entirety earlier today – it’s very good, and I can highly recommend it.
Conservatives are far more passionate about their ideas than liberals. That’s because their beliefs come from the heart. On the other hand beliefs held by liberals are largely the product of indoctrination. A big difference indeed.
When you listen to someone like Hannan you cannot help but have hope for the future, even if the liberals will do everything in their power to destroy people like him.
A man who ackowledges the problems, how refreshing. Republicans will love the speech and Democrats will hate it. The public will remain apathetic. Nothing will change. Judging by much influence his 12 years as a politician has had on Britain, his voice is lost in the wilderness. Pity.
I too listened to this in it’s entirety.
I am of the belief that the provincial elections in Ontario and Manitoba may have gone differently had the Conservative party in either province actually promoted a truly conservative platform, as opposed to a, by and large, alternative liberal platform.
I became a Hannan fan after listening to his ‘devalued Prime Minister’ speech.
As long as we keep beating around the bush when it comes to policy we lose.
Take the ‘birth control’ issue in the States. I don’t care if you use birth control or not, your CHOICE, however insurance is bought to control unexpected costs, not planned expenses! That along with the view that I would never impose my beliefs on another, but maybe that is the problem, the left has no problem imposing their’s on me.
On another note, when I heard Whitney had died, my girlfriend asked me what I thought she died from. I guessed, to her dismay, that it was likely a cocaine induced heart attack…
Great, timely speech. I love his gracious, positive, keep-your-chin-up message, and his emphasis on the importance of the fundamental principles rooted in our Anglospheric heritage.
Plus, when’s the last time you heard an elected politician use words like “adumbrated”?
Oh, I should also mention, Hannan’s reference to the Declaration of Independence. Wonderful.
“We hold these truth’s to be self evident…”
This document, along with their constitution, defines America. To not agree with them or the founders meant means you oppose the country in and of itself.
It clearly points out that not only do you have the right to separate, should your government not represent you, you have an obligation.
Indeed, institutions are fundamental which is why the left seeks to infiltrate and re-define them to the point that they become unrecognizable.
Have long held a smuggled copy of those documents, so long ago. They are inspirational as the word from on high. And it came forth from just that philosophically and ethically inspired mindset. Culture indeed, Mr. Hannan, quite right. There is a reason some other societies appear to have been stuck for 13 centuries. And a reason the old EU seems to be going backwards today. Two reasons really. Socialism holds academia, and the mohammedans own the street.
Brilliant. Are enough folks willing to wake up..?..the prospects ain’t bright.
Interesting times…
Hannan Gave a brilliant speech. I wish to heaven he where the PM of Briton, not the lefty appeasers that now preen to the god of mediocrity, with serfdom as a guide to life not individual choice.
Its no joke this Election decides Americas fate.
To be a free Republic or a Federal Dictatorship.
With a form of a Democracy without any substance.
Weather o keep their birth right as free Men. or lose the Inheritance of Liberty long fought.
Some of the best speakers I have seen lately are the anti-EU Brits in the E.U. “parliment.”
Witness Nigel Farage giving what for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gm9q8uabTs
Almost as satisfying as witnessing Justin Trudeau throwing his little hissy-fit up in the nose bleed section of the House a few months ago.
T.C.
Justin is the prohibative favorite for leader of the LPC. I figure all conservative minded people can get behind that pony.
With guys like this in the UK hwy is it such a authoritarian socialist cesspool?
Cross-posted at BCF (12/0/12):
… ” … small government, big citizen …”
“Honour the vision of your founders, cleave to the most divine Constitution devised by human intelligence. Don’t be the generation that cuts itself off from the wisdom of your fathers and disinherit your children. Never be afraid to speak to and for the soul of this nation of which, by good fortune and God’s grace, you are privileged to be part.”
Stirring words. Daniel Hannan gets it [and makes Obama — “born in Belgium”!!! — look like an inarticulate, ethically challenged pygmy].
I have to surmise that Mr. Hannan is a Christian, otherwise he would not have referred to “the sould of this nation,” “God’s grace” nor, at the end, closed with “God bless you, my friends, God bless America, and God bless the alliance of the free, English-speaking nations.”
I’m also quite clear that when he refers to we in the West cutting ourselves off from “the wisdom of [our] fathers … [and] disinherit[ing] our children” he’s referring to our spiritual heritage not just our political inheritance.
God knows, we need more young, intelligent, and articulate defenders of our Western democratic values. God bless Mr. Hannan!
What I want to know is how did he manage to speak for almost half a hour while reading from those teeny-tiny teleprompters in front of him – he must have suffered severe eye strain.
What’s that? They weren’t teleprompters? Nonsense, if that were possible it would surely undermine the worship of ‘The Great Orator’, and that’s not about to happen, because if it was the MSM would have reported on it.
Wouldn’t they?
Optimism is one thing but there comes a point when you have to admit that the problem has grown beyond a good solution. That is where the US is today. There is no easy fix only an eventual reboot.
And that boring wimp, Tim Hudak, is once again the “leader” of the Ontario “Conservative” Party: he “leads”, not just from behind, but, IMO, from a closet in his house! He doesn’t seem to have any sound policies. The last election against that dolt, McGuinty, was Hudak’s to win—and he blew it. As far as I could tell he doesn’t have any conservative policies. HRCs, Caledonia, Muslim prayers/gay propaganda in schools, Green initiatives: all should be severely dealt with. Hudak: no mention of these issues. What a sad excuse for a “Conservative” and an altogether sad contrast to Daniel Hannan and Nigel Farage.
I watched the whole speech too: inspiring! And what batb said.
I also listened to Hannan’s speech in its entirety. A voice of sanity in the lemming like rush toward the Soviet utopia.
There are a lot of great comments above, but eurefugee’s comment @ 2:07 about socialism owning academia in the EU holds true here as well. There are many exceptions to be sure, but by and large the left owns the teacher unions and the content brainwashed into the children. David Suzuki being the keynote speaker at the Alberta teacher’s union meeting in Calgary this last weekend is an example. As we have seen in past elections in Ontario, the teacher’s union is among the most rabid anti-conservative election campaigners.
“… white anglos …”? Did I hear him right? It’s around 23:40.
That aside, the main problem with his thesis is the conservatives have been in power plenty of times in the last thirty years and they do things the same way as the liberals. Sure, they have different fetishes. Religion and imperialism versus environmentalism and welfare, but the results are the same. Endlessly growing government and spending, cronyism and corruption.
geoih, sad isn’t it.
Thomas Sowell wrote a 3 part essay on this, link below, which I read all 3 parts which now for whatever reason, I can no longer access the second two parts.
http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2012/02/14/the_progressive_legacy
Distilled down, Sowell’s position is the progressives/liberals hail from the “progressive period early in the 20th century, when such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, concluded despite their ignorance on the matters they chose to intervene, that they and they alone had a monopoly on wisdom….and derived a divine right to dictate to the ignorant masses.
Example Roosevelt railed against railways having different rates for different customers…..that charging Standard Oil ( John D. Rockefeller) lower rates than his competitors…although Standard Oil shipped in tank cars and the competition shipped in barrels……allowing Rockefellar to undercut his competition…..
The core is the belief of the progressives is that they, and they alone, should decide all matters and use big government to administer and impose their will. Fascists under a different lable.
geoih
Not really there have been intermissions….
Bob Harris’ “COMMON SENSE REVOLUTION”, RONALD REAGAN’S REAGONOMICS, AND MARGARET THATCHER’S BRITAIN…..
All periods the trolls deplore for their injustice (rolling back the progressive agenda)….
“Religion and imperialism” a conservative fetish….you mean principles and resistance to the progressive path….
“environmentalism and welfare” are just the means to the end progressive pursuit to absolute power…..no virtues involved…just sophistry.
“cronyism and corruption” are the domaine of social Democrats…..the LIBRANO legacy is proof of that….
geoih if you are referring to the progressive conservatives they were nothing but liberanos from Montreal in blue ties instead of red, just as liberano as the liberanos but disguised, sorta like the RINOs defrauding there way through Republic primaries right now.
“The greatest gift in politics is the renunciation of power”
Like that…
it was “wider anglosphere” not white…
A great speech by Hannan.
The trouble in America, however, is that the GOP is largely CINO, and the Dems and Reps are part of a bi-factional pro-Bank big gov party of the center-left. There is little of import that distinguishes each from the other.
Yes, there is still time to change course, but Americans do not seem willing to let go of big govt. They are heaping more and more fire into their laps and they will get burned.
Daniel Hannan is great! He’s also a HUGE Ron Paul supporter and endorsed him for President! Daniel Hannan LOVES Ron Paul!
RON PAUL 2012 !
http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=f&oq=daniel+hannan+ron+paul&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADFA_enCA391CA391&q=daniel+hannan+ron+paul&gs_upl=0l0l0l4004lllllllllll0&aqi=g-z1g4
Marvellous speech, started well and just got better.
As I was listening,it became apparent that the only Presidential candidate who has any respect for the Constitution is,as “Mike” says,Ron Paul.
Doesn’t give much hope when one realises the two candidates who will contest the Presidency don’t seem to consider the Constitution at all.
This speech should be played at every Conservative Party meeting all across Canada,as a reminder that the “Reagan” style of modest service to the Nation is far preferable to the Obama/Liberal model of ruling over the unwashed masses.
The Americans should modify their unenforced “natural born citizen” rules and invite Hannan to be their president.
Loved the “we few conservatives left in Great Briton are standing on the brakes trying to stop from going over the cliff, and all we can see in our rear-view mirror is the US accelerating up right behind us”.
The Progressives have no clue where they are headed, just that they have the convertible electric car’s top down, pedal to the metal and laughing with all their might at the fantastic milage they are making. Completely Clueless!!! Just like watching the dog drive the car with its tongue flapping out the side of its mouth, slobber flying!!!
Brilliant speech, no truer words have ever been spoken.
It will take many superior people of good conscious, pure heart, and high energies to turn around the rot within today’s western governments.
