There is a difference between liberals and libertarians. Liberals wish to legalize just enough in order to enslave you with a different mechanism.
Libertarians on the other hand are looking to more freedoms on many different levels and have no wish to be or answer to the sheep herder or his dogs.
PHANTOM,
I reread the post I found objectionable, it “seemed” to be the same kind of rhetoric that so called “lefttards” use when there is a case of gun violence.
It smacked as being opportunistic and dogmatic to use her as the poster girl for NO DRUGS being legal. It is obvious that she had one of those personalities that thrived or craved extremes> she would have killed herself with something regardless of legality. The fact that she chose drugs is immaterial in my mind.
Houston had a dependent and self destructive personality as judged by her choice in male company and substance abuse. The music business is an extremely tough racket. Luck and connections are as critical as talent, but if they “get there” the lifestyle can overwhelm an already weak individual. Drug policy, in her case, has little or nothing to do with it.
Any of you Libertarian types can’t figure out why us squares won’t support legalizing drugs The Phantom at February 12, 2012 10:23 AM

, booze and drugs are two different things, and have different social nitchs
Uh, no, they are not, and no, they don’t. Indeed, alcohol is demonstrably one of the most destructive and dangerous mood altering substances (drugs) known, both on a societal and an individual level.
Aother dead degenerate. Not really news.
David Goldman explains in one or another of his essays why so much popular music is evil; and the hollowness of evil leads to this.
The death has nothing to do with prohibition. Obviously the deceased got as much of everything as she wanted, be it alcohol, prescription drugs, or cocaine.
“Indeed, alcohol is demonstrably one of the most destructive and dangerous mood altering substances (drugs) known, both on a societal and an individual level.

Surely you cannot be serious? Alcohol = ethanol, which man has known about and enjoyed for over 10,000 years, possibly longer.
The Phantom at 10:23 AM, right on!!
And while they are bringing back the death penalty, I would suggest they include those convicted of selling illicit drugs be sent to the gallows, or the chair, or the table – whatever the chosen method. Maybe the table where they can inject something excruciatingly painful as well as lethal. Hopefully whatever they inject will keep the perps writhing in pain for hours before they die.
The beastly enemy driveled: like wise, booze and drugs are two different things, and have different social nitchs, and need to be delt with in two different ways, once the lefties (including LIBERALtarians) figure this out, we can start on a cohersive method of social correction to abuse of the two substances (emphasis mine)
Freudian slip there, bud?
Black Mamba: three things
1) Why the hell did you drag me into this? I wasn’t even going to post in this thread until you threw my name into the mix.
2) As I’ve written before, I used to drink – way too much, in fact. It caused me a lot of problems and I’m still trying to sort some of them out. Now, I only drink a few times a year, and I make sure it stays under control. I always worry about it, though, and I feel I can never relax my guard. Ironically, I smoked a lot of pot in my late 20’s/early 30’s, but when I got married, my wife didn’t like it, and I stopped cold turkey with no problems – no cravings, no need to sneak a joint, etc., and it’s been over 20 years. As for “gateway” drug – what a crock. I was never tempted to try coke, meth, etc., even though it was offered.
3 – I can think of at least one exception – Craig Ferguson – to the long and sad story of artists and drugs (which predates Hollywood by hundreds of years cf de Quincey, Coleridge, Huxley, etc., etc.). Ferguson has said many times he spent over a decade drunk, and used other unspecified drugs during that time. He was going to commit suicide one night, but now says he was “distracted when a friend offered him a drink” (alcohol saves!). He’s been sober for close to 20 years now, and has a funny late-night show that’s quite successful.
To the larger question of why so many actors/singers get involved with drugs, I can only speculate, but I think it’s because their lives and careers (which are, thanks to our celebrity obsessed culture, inextricably intertwined) are so dependent on what others think of them – “You’re only as good as your last record, babe!” – that they lack the self-confidence needed to reject drugs. (I firmly believe that it’s this same lack of true ego that makes the Scientology cult so attractive in this community.) Look at Whitney’s experience – she started singing “pop” songs, and was almost immediately criticized by some in the black community as a sell-out and an Aunt Jemima. She was little more than a teenager at the time, getting massive amounts of love and hate from people who didn’t know her at all. She falls for a scum like Brown, and he introduces her to substances that, whatever else, make her feel good, happy, and content for a while. I’m sorry she couldn’t kick it, but I know from personal experience how hard it is, and I’m equally sure she had dozens, if not hundreds, of enablers ready to keep her going so the money machine wouldn’t stop.
The great irony in Whitney’s death can be found in the lyrics to the “Greatest Love Of All”. She sang that song for all she was worth, but she never really did find it (or if she did, only fleetingly, and when she lost it, she lost it all.)
PS To Phantom
I poke at you from time to time, but I think we’d probably agree on things over 90% of the time. With philtroll, I doubt I’d agree on almost anything. But, disregarding his clumsy insult, there is a grain of truth in his last post.

You’re right about that, unfortunately allot of so called Libertarians get confused with the differences. Intelligent people who want freedom also understand that there are many decades of unwinding tight intricate balls of liberalism that cannot be done overnight without a complete social and economic collapse.
I’m a conservative/ libertarian, who detests our generational welfare system, early paroles for violent and sexual offenders, prohibitions on drugs, illegal immigration, interference in the affairs of sovereign nations et al. To cut it all off tomorrow, our cities would literally burn to the ground.
Think about where we really are as a society today and how we get back to basic freedoms without lawless anarchy.
You start with the freedom to own guns, concealed carry and castle laws to protect ourselves from all of the above. From there we unwind laws on drugs but still will need to deal with the criminal gangs fuelled by its profits. They will be unleashed into different criminal community level activities at our expense.
It is naive to think that it is a simple wave of a wand, stroke of a pen to legalize drugs, thus ending the drug war that solves all the violence and problems in society. It’s all too big and far gone for that.
Give us our guns, and we will give you your drugs.
phil – is a drivelling one liner that doesn’t seem to have a stake in anything but the desire for SDA commenter’s to tell him they think he has a right to legally stick a poison needle in his veins.
I for one vote that he should, and have never advocated that he shouldn’t.
phil seems to think that once you legalize drugs, all the drug dealers put the bling away, pull up their pants with a belt, get real jobs, and raise some nice middle class families. To top it all off he gets to get high all day long on the cheap without losing his minimum wage job or fear of being arrested.
Hey phil, go knock your socks off, no one cares if you get high all day long. At best the most you would ever get from the RCMP is a small fine if that if ever caught smoking pot, so why worry about it?
As far as not being able to get a good technically skilled or professionally responsible job because you’re a dope head? Well to bad so sad for you, no one wants you in a position of responsibility anyway, legal or not.
I can’t believe she is gone so soon.First Michael Jackson and now Whitney. I was just watching the movie Preacher’s Wife minutes before I found out about her death. She was one of my favorite singer. Your mother is still alive through her music, movies and most importantly through you. RIP Ms. Houston. I will be blasting your music all week.
From reading the thread, I’d have to say that phil is schooling the counterargument.
As for making drugs legal, I’m no sure that all hell would break loose. I think that the competitive economic pressures would work really really hard at limiting the profit margins of gangs really really quick. Imagine the power that Wal Mart could bring to bear on the profit margin and cashflow of gangs? That put a SERIOUS DENT in their business. I’d wager that within a few years, criminals would be out of drugs because it just wouldn’t be worth the hassle (rather like being in the grocery business where profit margins are very slim). What would they do? Who knows, open a legit drug shop I suppose, but I do know they wouldn’t have to kill each other or anyone else to collect on their debts and they wouldn’t put out as much shitty product that kills off their consumers because some kind of regulation would likely apply and because it’s just bad business. After all, after Lucky’s House of Drugs kills off one or two its customers with bad product (they’ve killed 6 or 8 with such product in Alberta in 2 months), you can be pretty damned sure that no addicts will be going to Lucky’s anymore and will stick to the Wal Mart where they can be certain getting 100% pure product that might kill them in an OD, but won’t kill them because some scumbag decided to cut the drugs with drain cleaner or some other thing that will fry the user.
Anyways… No point in talking here, as minds have been made up and they possess the TRUTH.
I must be addicted to this pointless behaviour and in need of the Chinese Drug Solution… Crazy. Just effin’ crazy…
See you nutbars later.
Carry on the fight phil. You will get through to a few open minds (rare as they are). Eventually all the closed minds will die off (as all minds are wont to do) to be replaced by new closed minds with slightly different ideas. In this, one can claim that there is “progress.”
The Wet One >
“What would they do? Who knows, open a legit drug shop I suppose….”
Wow, that’s what I’m talking about, a society full of delusional thinking.
The only rhetorical question to that nonsense, is why don’t they open a legitimate business now if that was the case?
I mean honestly who do you people think this is about, your little brother selling dope at school to his friends. Wake up just a little please.
Wet One – for all you’re trying to create a big smackdown of the “nutbars”, plenty of people here are in favour of legalization. Who is spouting this “TRUTH” of which you claim we all foolishly believe we are in possession? Phantom would personally operate without anaesthetic on his own burst appendix rather than advocate increased government powers, and he’s the one (aside from idiot Fill) who’s been engaged with the legalization/normalization issue on this thread.
Loudmouth. Lucky for you the thread is dead.
The Wet One #2 >
“What would they do? Who knows, open a legit drug shop I suppose….”
What about instead of dealing drugs they decide to rob you and your home at every opportunity. Of course there is also racketeering, gang protection for you or your business, increased prostitution, business/ store robberies, loan sharking………to name but a few.
What you don’t seem to understand, is that a criminal (real criminals) will always be criminals. You take them off the street and put them in your homes if they are not out making profits selling dope at the street level. Higher up more sophisticated criminals move onto other criminal activities. Gangs, become more desperate and violent when easy money is made less available. They do not simply go legit and start living a clean honest lifestyle – at the end of the day these are the people on the front line of the fruitless drug war. It’s not about you and your pot head friends with no ambition other than to getting high. Your little excesses and self indulgences do indeed get other people killed somewhere up the line well out of your sight.
That is why the adults let the big boys make the decisions and the rules, while you do not.
Black Mamba said: “Phantom would personally operate without anaesthetic on his own burst appendix rather than advocate increased government powers…”
Arrrh! Just give me a bullet to bite on…

Arrrh! Just give me a bullet to bite on…
anybody notice that she threw a nice party in a lux room at the Hilton, on the eve of her 20-year anniversary of winning those very Grammys?
And then took a nice, final, relaxing soak…
