…”Vancouver Ontario formally Toronto”
Informally, we refer to it as “Hogtown” and that ISN’T a compliment.
I pray every year that Toronto experiences weeks and weeks of deep freeze and horrendous blizzards, just so Torontonians will STFU about Global Warming, and quit trying to force more taxes on the rest of us to save the planet.
Snowing tons here right now in the Fraser Valley…
Let the liberal bastards freeze in the dark
I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I was a boy we called these effects “weather”, and were damned happy when we didn’t need to shovel every day.
Of course, I am of an age where I don’t need to blame every inconvenience in life on someone, and demand a corrective intervention from government.
Call me old-fashioned, or maybe just old, but I find the endless litany of new evils to be addressed with yet another new entirlement or regulation to be a bit tiresome.
Shaw was arrested. This is the same guy that was hyperventilating about the Olympics, Sea-to-Sky, Cambie tunnel.
From the rent-a-nut crowd.
And, for the Greenpiece crowd, when will THEY start funding ‘renewable energy projects’, on a large scale, and prove how economically viable and profitable they are?
Oh yeah, right. The Greenies mantra, Do as we say, not as we do!
This must be someone who hasn’t been aground long. I have seen snow over the windows and no snow at all. I’ve seen it -30 in TO and +70 the next year. TO winters can be that different. It’s called weather and we have it every year. By the way that was 50+ years ago. I got smart and came west in 62.Climate change started the day the earth was formed and has been going on ever since.
SDA has been taken over by the Canadian Sentinel.
Robert, you are one bone headed tubesteak , I sh*t you not.
Absolutely right, Doc. Sounds like we’re both of that generation that would never think of seeking redress from someone else over an imagined indignity.
phil get a life
One inch of snow! Call in the army!
Well, it’s been alternating between frigid or unseasonably warm, so it’s easy to blame on global weirding.
Still, you can enjoy the fact that they’re supposed to be depressed whenever it’s a nice day in the winter. Must be hell on one’s psyche.
When the stuff outside favors the AGW dogma, I’m told by the same liberals “You don’t understand the difference between ‘weather’ and ‘climate.'” And they say that as if I was an uneducated hick, not enlightened like them.
Of course, as this guy shows, when the stuff outside favors AGW, they claim it’s proof of AGW.
Then again, I claim it’s the “Gore Effect” when it snows during a global warming hearing / conference / rally / protest.
What do you call a guy with no arms, no legs and no wit, laying in a pipeline ditch? Backphil.
January 17, 2012. 10cm Snow -Blizzard conditions in Vancouver Joggers bundled up for winter, no bicycling. This IS Canada.
It’s called weather, and it has nothing to do with the fact that the earth has been gradually warming since the last ice age 18,000 years ago.
In case that confuses you, humans didn’t cause it.
Did anybody hear any greenie babies trying to explain the -50C weather they had in Edmonton last year shortly after Christmas?
Nah. I didn’t think so.
Has anybody ever heard a greenie baby explain that correlation does not prove cause and effect? Just because we had a warm spell for a few weeks in late December early January does not prove humans are causing global warming, whether due to CO2 or not. Parts of Eastern USA just south of the Toronto area experienced extreme cold temperatures at the same time. I thought local conditions were supposed to be weather, not climate.
I was living in TO one year when it went down to -30 C. Not pretty. Their houses and apartments aren’t built to take it.
I moved some cushions into my small kitchen and blocked one end with beer cases, and kept the oven on, with a chess table to work on.
The chap in the next apartment just ran his hot water for three days.
It was a big surprise because I was used to Ottawa, where -50 C is not impossible, and -40 C is common.
Downtown Toronto is heated not by global warming but by the large numbers of businesses and apartments there.
I don’t know a single person who dislikes warm weather in the middle of winter. Bring on the warming.

Froze my nads off moving a horse manure pile, so were did my gorebullwarming go??????
I live in Toronto and am welcoming a mild winter. Its great being able to go for a walk without wearing Sorels or mukluks and an Eddy Bauer down parka that is not light. Nt all Torontonians are brain dead supporters of take my money and stabalize the climate. I’ll keep my money because humans activity cannot by any stretch of the immagination control climate.
Doc,your comment was right on the money.!!!!
The Twitter link takes us to an article on pipeline protests in Vancouver.
Christine Leclerc [Greenpeace] told the Vancouver Observer. “This pipeline is about expanding the tar sands, when we could quite readily move into renewable energy.”
Right Chrissy! Renewables are not an option in such a cold climate.
As I write, Alberta’s wind farms are operating at 2.8% of their design capacity. (24 MW from a design capacity of 865 MW.) And we importing power tonight! That wind is really something, eh?
It is -27°C in Lethbridge and will be -30°C across southern Alberta tonight and close to -35 or colder across the north.
Relying on renewables would kill us all tonight! Bah!
Alberta’s wind farms are operating at 2.8% of their design capacity.
I’m not surprised.
Can you provide a link to that? I could really use that data in a discussion with people who want to put a wind farm here.
Yeah it’s -35 here.
Robert, Has Bimini’s ever reopened after that fire?
North of 60
Here is the AESO power production site: http://ets.aeso.ca/
Left column menu .. click in “Current” then “Select report” … Select “Current supply and demand” from the drop-down menu and then “ok”
The most recent electricity prodn report is shown..it updates every one or two minutes.
At 11:11 PM wind was dumping 16 MW into the system. That’s 1.85% of design capacity.
Send me an email if you wish. I have some wind “letters to the editor” and assorted papers.

Bimini is open again. It’s now owned/run by the Donnelly Group of pubs and restaurants. It’s more expensive now, for sure. The name and location are the same but it’s a different place.
We had a non-winter like this about 3 years back and the late Jack Layton was ranting that it was global warming. Birds were singing on his street — in January! We still hadn’t had any snow! Doom was upon us all!
The very next year we had such a huge dump of snow in December that people couldn’t get out for Christmas shopping and some seasonal events had to be cancelled.
Winter in southern Ontario has always been inconsistent, period.
