  1. Freedom from American cultural influence is apparently more important than freedom from starvation, repression, and torture:
“Seeing how South Korea has turned out — its Koreanness utterly submerged in neon, hip-hop and every imaginable American influence, a romantic can allow himself a small measure of melancholy: North Korea, for all its faults, is undeniably still Korea, a place uniquely representative of an ancient and rather remarkable Asian culture. And that, in a world otherwise rendered so bland, is perhaps no bad thing…” — Simon Winchester in The Times (UK).

  2. The Telegraph (UK):
Arsonists attacking commercial properties with links to people’s homes could be shot by police during future riots, an official review of police tactics has recommended.
“The use of firearms could be justified given the ‘immediacy of the risk and the gravity of the consequences’, legal advice published in the review said.”
An overwhelming number of respondents – 82 percent, the last time I checked – at this online poll agree.
    In other, related, good news,
Young offenders jailed in the wake of the summer riots were attacked by fellow inmates who had seen their home towns targeted. Criminals already in custody and worried about their families and friends being caught up in the disturbances turned on the perpetrators once behind bars, prison inspectors revealed.
“Some rioters also revealed they had been ostracised by their own relatives while other said their families were considering moving home because of the animosity from neighbours…”

    “Bosnia moving toward Sharia law”
Another American war that paved the way for another sharia state. It seems there can be no critical analysis of the repercussions of America’s war in Bosnia and Serbia that paved the way for a militant Islamic state in the heart of Europe.

That legal action sounds to me like a call for the Bank of Canada to give out free money. If Rocco Galati is involved, it’s probably not something we’d like to see succeed …

  5. Finnish officials threaten to take children away from parents who don’t feed their kids enough carbs:
“(Ursula Schwab, a clinical nutrition specialist) said ‘A strict low-carb diet is very fatty, and it suppresses hunger. If you down eggs and bacon for breakfast it will take hours before you can even imagine eating again.'”
    Mangan:

“Imagine that: bacon and eggs for breakfast leaves you so satisfied that you’re not hungry until lunchtime.

Question: How stupid are they at the NYT?
North Korea has been using the exact opposite strategy for sixty years – and these idiots think the ‘Great Successor’ is going to change that?

FALSE FRONTS, AT HOME AND ABROAD
That’s to say, we borrow money from China to give to China. Oh, don’t worry. It’s only a few million, and most of it goes to “promote clean energy.” It sounds so reasonable when you put it like that. Who among us hasn’t borrowed money from his loan shark in order to buy his loan shark a hybrid?

If you are a socialist/fascist, you have to ask yourself a question; how long can this kind of society last?
In case you have difficulty with the answer, let me help. This kind of society is at the end of its useful existence. If there was not an existing infrastructure built by free enterprise, this society would be lights out. Sort of like North Korea. http://americandigest.org/ page and a half down on your right.

“The big question of the less than one month old New Year is: Where on earth are we going with Canadian business man Maurice Strong out on the centre of the world stage? To be more specific, what precisely is Strong doing in North Korea?
We do know that U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan sent a special envoy to North Korea last Monday “to assess the humanitarian situation” as Pyongyang came under global pressure to shut down a suspected nuclear arms program.
We know that North Korea, only last Friday threatened a Third World War, boldly claiming it could hold its own in a ‘fire-to-fire standoff’.
We now know that two North Korean envoys met in Sante Fe, New Mexico, with Governor Bill Richardson, a former U.N. ambassador and diplomatic troubleshooter.
We do know that Strong is now in North Korea.
Strong, a special advisor to the secretary-general, is the architect of the Kyoto Protocol.
According to unidentified U.N officials, the Canadian “has been involved in humanitarian operations in North Korea for some time.”

  12. Looks like Alberta is two for two in having useless wastes of oxygen as premiers. First the Keystone XL support (sarc) and now defending Chiquita’s ban on oilsands fuel, Redford has certainly put the “red” in the “have” province. Actually, considering her payback for the teachers and her comments on increasing the so called “sin” taxes, this latest bit of verbal diarrhea shouldn’t have come as a surprise.

Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up to $250K Per Vehicle
Analyst: ‘This might be the most government-supported car since the Trabant’
    full story here: http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/16192
Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
Hohman looked at total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. His analysis included 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

In a sudden new development, your correspondent has learned that Norfolk Constabulary have decided that climategate is too big for them to handle. According to an un-named source, they intend to hand over the inquiry to another force.
This follows on the heels of a ‘request for a contact’ at Norfolk Constabulary by Lord Christopher Monckton in connection with his intention to have the police investigate revelations in the ‘climategate’ emails placed in the public domain.
This is much bigger news than the raid at Tallbloke Towers, when police from three forces seized computers belonging to yours truly, on the basis of information supporting a warrant which has not yet been revealed.”
