  1. Another communist in a suit: The Guardian’s Neil Clark:
“The question which needs to be asked is whether (Václav Havel’s) political campaigning made his country, and the world, a better place.
“Havel’s anti-communist critique contained little if any acknowledgement of the positive achievements of the regimes of eastern Europe in the fields of employment, welfare provision, education and women’s rights. Or the fact that communism, for all its faults, was still a system which put the economic needs of the majority first…”
    From the comments:

I love the Guardian, a constant reminder of the infinite amount of nonsense in the Universe.

Remind me, how many people were shot trying to get into Eastern Europe pre-1989?

  2. A teacher friend uses a John Dewey quote as ‘Footer’ on emails.
Wiki reports other Dewey quotes, such as this 1897 one:
“The teacher is not in the school to impose certain ideas or to form certain habits in the child, but is there as a member of the community to select the influences which shall affect the child and to assist him in properly responding to these influences (p. 9).”
    ‘to select the influences’ !!
Such as Al Gore & David Suzuki? – exclusively? Others need not apply because the Teach will “select”.

  3. Nancy Pelosi, Down and Dirty
    by Michelle Malkin
Pelosi just happens to be a stockholder in — you guessed it — Clean Energy Fuels. The then-Speaker bought between $50,000 and $100,000 of stock in Pickens’ CLNE Corp. in May 2007 on the day of the initial public offering. As I reported in a column three years ago, Pelosi’s 2007 financial disclosure form listed “assets and ‘unearned income’ of between $100,001-$250,000 from Clean Energy Fuels Corp. — Public Common Stock.” If the natural gas giveaway passes, Pelosi profits.

  4. Congo protesters attack charity carol concert…… in England:
“Carol Singers raising money for a cancer charity in Trafalgar Square were attacked by protesters during a night of disorder that saw 139 arrests. Shops were attacked, passers-by threatened and car windows smashed during a demonstration in central London against the election result in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“Masked teenage boys ‘stormed’ the singers, throwing bottles of water and hot drinks into the crowd. A woman in her 40s, said to be undergoing treatment for breast cancer, was pulled to the ground. A youth attempted to set light to the Christmas tree, an annual gift from the city of Oslo since 1947…”

  5. “I love the Guardian, a constant reminder of the infinite amount of nonsense in the Universe.”
“Remind me, how many people were shot trying to get into Eastern Europe pre-1989?”
The Guardian’s Neil Clark reminds me of those that were shot or imprisoned in Eastern Europe for being “enemies of the people”
EBD, thanks for the Christmas music.

  6. Murderous tyrant issue III appears lined up to inherit the Norco slave colony.
He is only there because China allows it.
Bejing should be held responsible for letting this genocidal farce in N Korea to continue.

  7. Two of the funnier comments a WeaselZippers on the Norco news:

The N Korean people are fasting to mourn Kim Jong Il’s passing…

  8. An interesting article in WSJ by Jeb Bush.
Capitalism and the Right to Rise

Congressman Paul Ryan recently coined a smart phrase to describe the core concept of economic freedom: “The right to rise.”
We have to make it easier for people to do…. to rise…. compete…. fight for business…. take risks…. let people fail…. suffer the consequences of bad decisions…. enjoy the fruits of good decisions, even good luck.
The only concern here is, who is it that “we have to” who the hell they think they are. People have in actual fact inalienable right to do these things in contrast to lesser and greater dictators that would take it upon themselves to direct, “we have to let the people do this and that”.

  9. John Doyle is an idiot.
If you hate Ezra Levant, it’s because you hate freedom. I’ve read enough Doyle columns to have a good idea which side he’s on.

  10. Hey all the news is too depressing for me so I have to take a hiatus now and again.
I don’t know if anyone has really talked about it at SDA but the US Congress has two bills that would affect the internet in a negative way. I don’t know if I would flat out call it censorship but it’s concerning. Just thought I’d link some info here.

  11. The Veena Malik video should be watched by everyone. She’ll be dead within months. Sadly. 🙁

  12. A cbc news now with heather hiscock reporter just sand that george bush once called for a boycott of french products and wanted to rename french fries “freedom fries”. That never happened.

  13. It’s weird, isn’t it, re. John Doyle, and other guys like Sid “Leprechaun Man” Ryan and that commie female-type MP in BC who looks like an obese sheep and any number of others; the British Isles seem to send so many irritating jerks to Canada.
Rober W., don’t be so pessimistic; ms. Malik is very famous in Pakistan and India and a lot of people care about her safety.

I agree, she’d be wise to emigrate. (Blazing Cat Fur was going to see if we could arrange a Malik-swap, Veena for Heather. Fingers crossed.)

“An organizer in a Chinese village that has rebelled against Communist Party authorities for more than a week said on Tuesday representatives would hold talks with the government and demand a set of concessions in return for calling off a march.
Residents of Wukan village in south China’s Guangdong province have threatened to march on a local government office in a protest over farmland seized for development and the suspicious death in custody of a protest organizer, Xue Jinbo.
Although the rebellion is limited to one village, it has attracted widespread attention and proven a humbling rebuff to the ruling Communist Party, which values stability above all else.”

“Riot police fired tear-gas and beat demonstrators who stormed government buildings in Haimen, a major town in southern China on Tuesday – just 75 miles from the rebel village of Wukan.”
“Residents of Haimen, a 130,000-strong town in the province of Guangdong, are demanding a coal-fired plant be moved, claiming it is damaging their health.
Web photos show a large gathering of people and riot police in a public square, and it is reported about 30,000 people in the town have gone on strike
Demonstrators are claiming a 15-year-old boy had been killed and more than 100 others badly beaten by riot police, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Government officials in the town have so far refused to comment on the incident.”

Santa won’t bother going to poor countries this year, so the United Nations Children’s Fund will go instead — or at least that’s the message behind a satirical new UNICEF advertisement released in Sweden.
The video (below) shows a jolly Santa at his workshop desk upending a box that, to his surprise and disgust, contains nothing but medical supplies destined for an unspecified third world country.
In a sometimes confusing and grammatically questionable rant, Santa then explains why health care doesn’t make for good Christmas presents.
“This ain’t no Christmas gift. So, you buy this products for your friend, and all this stuff goes to poor kids? Like in Africa?” Santa asks, before skeptically examining a vaccine bottle with a magnifying glass, shaking a bottle of pills and squirting the contents of a syringe into the air.
The Santa depicted in the commercial doesn’t care much for the accompanying Christmas cards either.
“What am I supposed to say when I hand this out? Ho! Ho! Ho! Here’s your picture of the gift you never got?” Santa says, while holding up a card branded with the UNICEF trademark.
“I don’t do poor countries,” Santa says in a villainous tone.

“TransCanada buys solar energy projects for $470-million”
“TransCanada Corp. TRP-T, a major pipeline operator and power producer, has expanded its alternative energy business with a deal to buy nine solar power projects in Ontario for $470-million.
The big Calgary company said Tuesday it had had agreed to buy Ontario solar projects from Canadian Solar Inc. CSIQ-Q, with a combined capacity of 86 megawatts.”

“Oil giant BP to exit the solar sector as numbers fail to add up”
“BP is preparing to wind down its BP Solar unit and sell-off the stakes it has in various projects around the world.
A document announcing the decision to the 100 employees who will be affected says changes in the solar industry have left BP unable to achieve sufficient margins in the sector.
It says the decision is made with regret after a “near 40-year commitment to solar energy”.
A BP spokesman confirms the move and says that over the last six months “regrettably we have come to the decision that we can’t make solar viable for BP”.
The spokesman says BP will engage with its various solar partners around the world and would aim to exit projects “in a way that leaves them viable”.
The UK group had already pulled back from module manufacturing to concentrate on project development.
In July it shut its factory in Maryland, US, ending a process that saw some 460 US jobs cut over two years.
It had earlier axed manufacturing capacity in Spain.”

  19. I thought someone crapped on my computer screen but it was just a piece written by Kinsella.
“The list of things which the minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism detests is long. For example, the corpulent Calgary Conservative detests multiculturalism, quite a few immigrants, and an impressive number of his fellow citizens, too. In fact, Kenney may be the first federal cabinet minister to preside over a department he would like to eliminate.”
