37 Replies to “Free Don Cherry!”

  1. Perhaps he is going to join Dr. Fruitfly … in scaring the children to follow his lead.
Hockey has already reduced its fights through rules …. I never heard of anybody rushing to the tv … with children watching … and switching the channel.

  2. I support Raffi here. Let’s get Don Cherry off the CBC and onto TSN … along with Hockey Night in Turtle Island.

  3. Don Cherry has more class in a cut toe nail, than than Cavoukian will ever have in 100 life times.

  4. So a guy who supports terrorists doesn’t like Don Cherry. I don’t suppose Don Cherry likes terrorists.
So Raffi likes Hamas. Hamas targets children and giggle with glee when they kill one. Maybe people should keep their kids away from Raffi. You just never know.

  5. This Raffi thing is/was likely more popular with CBC producers than the kids……
There should be some process to review landed immigrant statis/citizenship ….I find no distinction between Hamas/Hizb’ olla supporters and Nazi war criminals….so we could ship Libby davies to Lebanon/Syria as well.

  6. It’s hard to pick a winner here. On one hand, you have an Islamic child predator, on the other, a crazy old child abuser. Cherry is a bad influence on kids, but not the worst. He’s very open about his beliefs, and most kids know exactly what he’s all about. By the time they even know what Cherry is up to, they’ve already been subjected to hockey parents for many years. This Raffi dude is more insidious. Many parents don’t even catch on to the fact they’re exposing their children to subliminal conditioning. I wouldn’t expose my kids to either of them.

  7. Hm,that’s the first time I ever enjoyed one of Mercer’s shows.
Cherry is a great Canadian,an icon, Raffi, I thought had died years ago.

  8. dmorris is right. Mercer is actually tolerable in this piece but then again going up against Cherry he knows he is second banana. Now he knows how MacLean feels, eh.

  9. Anyone notice how Don Cherry is called a “bully”? IMO, the current anti-bullying campaign is an attempt to create an even easier to control population of sheeple. Lately I’ve noticed that I’m being accused of employing “bullying” tactics when I simply point out to people how clueless they are about a topic like CAGW. Seems that exposing moonbats to the truth is now considered “bullying”. I guess we had to expect a new pejorative term for people who don’t follow approved statist thought now that “racist” no longer works as a result of overuse.
My technique of dealing with bullies in public school was to take up martial arts and make them seek easier prey. This moron raffi is someone that kids should never be exposed to, or, he? she?, should be held up as an example of how messed up some people can get.

  10. “Bully” is the newest latest code word for the left’s “racist,
fascist, Zionist, nazi, white supremicist, homophobic, nonpersons”.
No doubt there are already progressive police departments across
this fair land slavering at the thought of all the financial resources
about to come their way to enforce this new niceness as determined by the left.

  11. Mr. Cherry needs to send a bill to the Cancon b-listers that periodically use his name as a source of free publicity.

  12. Raffi’s music is child abuse.
His support for Hamas, Hisbollah and other mass murdering, children killing terrorists is obnoxious.
I’ll stick with Cherry as someone I will support.

  13. Raffi is the same guy who wrote the Jack! Layton tribute tune that thankfully disappeared about a millisecond after its advent.

  14. Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea
Is far smarter than the NDP.
Waves roll in and the waves roll out.
As Raffi blows shit out of his spout.

  15. Canadians like people who stand up for themselves and then some, as witness Jean Chretien’s non-reliance on police.
I’ve never heard of “Raffi” before but the man is obviously demented. And shouldn’t be allowed to sing to children.

  16. I was subjected to a lecture/performance by Raffi at a conference in Vancouver a few years ago. “Creepy” is exactly descriptive of the vibe he emitted. Part of it was his juvenile politics, but most disturbing was his use of a paid public performance essentially to trash his parents and lament his upbringing. People, many of whom were quite happy to see him at the beginning of his performance, began to leave the room in droves.

  17. ringringringringringringring, banana phone.
    boop boopee doopee doop…
    NDP court jester, that’s Raffi.
I hate professional sports and I don’t watch TV anyway, but this “man” is going after Don Cherry for -not- being a wuss. I’ve got no time for that. Don Cherry’s a cool guy and a snappy dresser. Raffi OTOH is some kind of showbiz weirdo and I wouldn’t let him within 20 yards of a kid I had charge of.

  18. Rafi is just doing his bit as a cultural Marxist indoctrinator conditioning the next generation into servile passivity. The Politically Corrected Utopian state wants no one to defend themselves, to offer physical resistance to aggression must be taboo – that is why political correcting social revisionists have relabeled justified self-defence as “bullying”. Children/citizens must not take physical steps to protect themselves from aggression, this is the state’s monopoly on use of force. They must also be conditioned to passively subordinate themselves to state aggression.
Above and beyond all the psychological damage this dogma does to the next generation, you get the obvious revelation that those who push this authoritarian passivity are themselves gutless snivelling curs who are incapable of summoning up the sand to even defend themselves from physical threat – therefore they disguise their morbid timidity as “morality” and embrace these self-loathing self-destructive passivity dogmas to disguise that fact.
Cherry rules! The only people who could be threatened by this big old mush box are neurotic timorous women or cowardly girly men. Maybe Rafi fits both profiles. I see one poster here referred to this as being a “creepy little man” – yup, lots of em around these days and more being manufactured by the cultural Marxist system every day.

  19. A Pied Piper leading our children into the arms of Hamas and Hisbollah. Next he’ll be playing on a floatilla.
On the contray, I’d like to see an 8 or 12 team International hockey league compossed of ELITE players only, making more money than they ever have, the cream of the cream. Fast open hockey on big ice. Play would start Nov 1st and end Mar 31, playoffs done by Apr 30th. Leave the UFC in the NHL.

  20. patootie writes, “Shut up and sing, Raffi.”
I know what paptootie means, but, please, Raffi, no more singing! (One of the best things about my kids turning five was NO MORE RAFFI! His voice is awful and his songs are cloying. I guess if he should read this, he’d say I was being a bully. WHAT a sissy! And a hypocrite too: I’ve noticed that those traits tend to go together.)
BRAVO, Don Cherry! (Didn’t Rick look cute in his zebra jacket? That was great fun.)
And David Warren’s column on bullying is a must read. John Lewis posted the link at 9:30 a.m. Thanks, John.

  21. Why is this guy known?
    Who is this guy?
Why is it that some other people write about this guy?
    Is this guy somebody important?
Is this guy an expert on something? (using the term loosely as though being a “journalist”)

  22. I do not care if the rink gladiators beat each other to a state of drooling. That is their choice.
My choice is to do what I have always done. Not watch hockey.
I like fighting, but I prefer to watch the professionals do that. It’s called boxing.
If Rafi doesn’t like hockey violence or Jews, He can move to Iran where have neither, hockey nor Jews. It simple.

  23. Anybody have an email link for Raffi the Terrorist, maybe we should start a fan club and tell him what a useless waste of skin he really is, I like this message from a comment on the link. “syd B. said…
Baby Baluga in the deep blue sea.
Is far smarter than the NDP.
Waves roll in and waves roll out.
Watch the sh*t blow out of Raffi’s spout.

  24. Is it just me or are the loony left on a “I’m perpetually offended” bender these days? I think it’s to much teeth bleaching myself.

  25. Rose, they are on an “I’m Offended!” offense these days. Its because pretending to be offended is pretty much all they’ve got these days to get them in the paper.
That’s because they LOST the election. Hee hee! 🙂 I just never get tired of saying that.

  26. That Cavoukian guy…he would blend with the Occupussy crowd that is for sure….children can pick up loones the same as any one else…they are smarter than he thinks…////

  27. Raffi’s an honorary board member of the David Suzuki Foundation.
Do we need to know any more than that?

  28. I remember the first time I heard Raffi – it was being piped over the intercom as I was entering my kid’s school for a Christmas program (I know, the irony…) I thought it was a non-music teacher leading a sing-along with verve, but little sense of pitch. The guy is a terrible singer, and tepid songwriter. His stage name sounds catchy, and that is his only attribute. Another commenter mentioned Sharon, Lois and Bram. They could actually sing, and their songs and arrangements had imagination. Why doesn’t the CBC find out what they think of current events?
