“Like it or not, the Liberals have long been our political gods, turning this awkwardly giant land mass into a field of realizable dreams. But the gods have changed. No smaller concept can encompass what happened to Canada in the spring of 2011 — when for the very first time voters handed a clear majority to a government run by a politician whose ideals and goals seemed antithetical to the country I thought I knew.”

Newman comes from a generation where to be Jewish was to be Liberal; and that’s all changed now. Read the National Review of late? I like the way Ignatieff invokes “Christ” like the Divine Right aristocrat he is.
I am presently reading Newman’s so-called revelatory piece on the Bronfmans (yes, I’m way behind in my reading!)and it seems to me that he treats Sam as a curmudgeon or a kindly old rapscallion. Not sure yet whether he will cover Saidye’s aiding and abetting of a murderer hiding in France, and of the Crown’s abdication of duty. Money really does talk. Unfortunately for the Liberals, they decided to drop support for the state of Israel, mainly because, I think, of its connection to the Judeo-Christian ethic.
What a jackass and an ignoramus Peter Newman is! Stephen Harper is certainly reminiscent of
Mackenzie King – astute, calculating, cautious, disciplined, governing with his head, his passions well hidden.
Indeed, with the changes in Canadian politics, Harper is to the left of King.
Newman doesn’t know a real Canadian politician when he sees one.
“Canadian Journalist Thinks Toronto Is A “Country”
Hey, Toronto elected Rob Ford. Give us some credit!
Peter C. Newman is what happens when a guy who writes propaganda for a living starts to believe his own hype. He loves the Liberals because they’ve bankrolled him his entire useless life.
In a related factoid, did you guys know the Ontario government employs 1,060,000 people directly? That’s a whole provincial employee for every twelve people, there’s only 13,200,000 of us in the whole frickin’ province.
Notice that’s just provincial, not including county, city, or federal.
So I think Peter C. Newman can take his beloved Liberal Party and shove it where the sun don’t shine, baby. They’ve done quite enough damage.
Ellie in T.O., 905/GTA elected Rob Ford, because they’re sick of getting ripped off. 416/Actual Toronto is still NDPee, but that’s because probably a third to a half of those million provincial employees live in 416.
Not like they are going to vote for a -smaller- government, right?
Peter C. Newman’s a horse’s ass. He’s been the exploiter and beneficiary of the Left Libtards for years — and he’s lucky he’s an old man. He’s running out of time in conjunction with the dearth of ideas and credibility of the Liberal$ he so extols.
He and his Librano$ are way past their sell-by date and neither seem to have a clue that their frog is in the proverbial pot of boiling water.
Frogs’ legs anyone? Peter C. Newman’s hat?
Ding Dong…the Witch is dead
Scar:
I think the need for the Liberal Party is long past
Back in university days, we realized the Liberals were meaningless, which we summed up in the classic epigram “Voting Liberal is like having sex with a condom; what’s the point?”.
And Phantom:
Rob Ford didn’t get a single vote from 905. 905 was created specifically for areas OUTSIDE Metro Toronto. All his votes were from inside Toronto, although he did much better in the suburban areas than he did in the central core.
KevinB, my bad. Core vs. burbs is what I meant, duh.
It doesn’t surprise me that Newman would see “Ignatieff: He’s stupid foreign garbage, just like you!” as a winning slogan. It is rather remarkable that he thought he wouldn’t be alone in that. In the country he thought he knew, it would have triumphed. Thing is, thinking you know is not the same, and not nearly as good, as knowing.
Yeah LIEBERALS:
There’s still $100 MILLION stolen under the Cretien regime that must be paid back.
Hows that for a sinking ship? Just cause Libs were in charge, doesn’t they can absolve themselves for looting the treasury.
But TRY tell a Leftist that!
They are convinced they are SAVING the country, and so are ENTITLED to break whatever laws they have a mind to. This includes recent “Occupiers” ….
Love watching their fantasies careen to their inevitable conclusions.
He stabs his best friends in the back…nuff said

Those are rather smug comments. May I refer you all to an earlier post from me today at the end of “Ann Coulter Declares.” My comments are applicable to this thread as well, don’t you think?
