Women unveiling their eyes in public in Saudi Arabia will be forced to fully cover up their faces if their eyes are found to be seditious, according to the Gulf Kingdom’s most feared Islamic law-enforcement group. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice was reacting to last week’s fight between one its members and a Saudi husband, who was maddened by the man’s orders to his wife to cover up her face, the Saudi Arabic language daily Alwatan reported on Sunday…”
“’The Commission members have orders to tell any women in public to cover up her face if they find that her eyes are seditious,’ the paper said, quoting Sheikh Mutlaq Al Nabit, a Commission spokesman…”

  3. Don’t know if somebody already posted it but Frank Miller of the “Sin City” fame wrote his thoughts about “Occupy” people:
“. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America…….an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves.”

In Italy, demonstrators clashed with police and the country’s new prime minister, Mario Monti, prepared to unveil a fresh crisis plan. In Greece, where protests and strikes have been widespread, authorities have thousands of police officers on hand for another demonstration today.
Mr. Monti has taken a firm hold on the government, appointing a cabinet with no politicians. Today, all eyes are on his proposals for more bitter medicine.”

    “Solar power: cloudy outlook”
“For an industry obsessed with reducing costs, plunging raw material prices ought to be great news for manufacturers of solar panels. It is anything but.
Refined from silicon, the most abundant element in the earth’s crust, polysilicon got very pricey a few years ago, reaching $500 per kilogram. That was annoying for microchip manufacturers, but a serious problem for makers of photovoltaic panels.
The pricing crunch led to a wave of investment in polysilicon capacity that came on stream just as some governments trimmed subsidies.”

“German ministry wants to cut new solar to 1 gigawatts a year”
“Germany’s Economy Ministry released a paper on Thursday with a proposal to reduce the growth of new photovoltaic installations to 1,000 megawatts (MW) a year, a move that would dethrone the country as the world’s largest market for solar panels.”
“The suggestion follows a newspaper interview by Economy Minister Philipp Roesler, leader of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s junior coalition partners the Free Democrats, who said reducing new capacity to 1,000 MW, or 1 gigawatt (GW), per year would help contain costs of the incentives that utilities pay to solar power producers.
If turned into legislation, the move would effectively lead to a collapse of the German solar market, the world’s biggest, and slam a sector that has already suffered from massive price declines and falling government subsidies.”

    “The Empty Chamber”
“Guest post by Ken Haapala who attended the Markey-Waxman BEST briefing on Monday.
“Where are they?” the lady sitting beside me asked out loud, looking around anxiously.
    “Who?” I inquired.
“The press!” she said, “The place was packed the last time.” Apparently, she was referring to a hearing held in the spring of 2010. Indeed, the usual staff was setting up the television cameras and the typical photo opportunities, but nothing unusual. No commotion on Monday, November 14, 2011.
“The US House of Representatives National Resources Committee Room is a deep, chamber-shaped room, dominated by a large, elongated horseshoe-shaped table adequate for seating the 48 members of the Committee with sufficient room for several staffers to sit behind each member. At the open end of the horseshoe, a table was set up for the three speakers: Professor Richard Muller of the BEST project, Ben Santer of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and William Chameides, Dean of Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Vice-Chair of the National Academies’ Committee on America’s Climate Choices. The three scientists appeared early, assuring that their visual presentations would work properly. Behind them were three rows of chairs totaling about 40 seats for the audience.
“No one is here,” the lady stated, looking at the small audience.
“Perhaps they were not notified,” I commented, hoping to be reassuring.
“That’s impossible,” she retorted, “I notified everyone I know.”
The Press Release of the event had announced: Congressional Climate Briefing to Push “End of Climate Change Skepticism.”
As the two o’clock hour approached, a number of legislative staffers dutifully filed in, filling the many empty chairs.TV cameramen despise a void.
“Will there be only two!” the lady exclaimed, noting that only two chairs were prepared for members of the Committee, both at the bend in the horseshoe, as far from the speakers and audience as possible.”
