Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hey most of the ‘kids’ stayed as long as they could, but there are toys to pay for and beer to buy and parties to go to and maybe even work or go to school.
It was a lot of fun while it lasted, but now it’s just the icky people left there because they have no where to go. You know … drugs and all.
I just hope the occupiers don’t mess it up for the real homeless people, especially in Toronto where the OWS crew is more obstinate.
What I’m referring to is the fact that if the OWS prolongs this thing then they will have to be forcibly removed and I wouldn’t be surprised if a bylaw or something is strictly enforced preventing EVERYBODY from sleeping in public — including the real homeless.
Apart from the odd troublemakers, the real homeless don’t try to draw attention to themselves because they depend on the good-will of Police, private security guards, etc., to “wink” at the fact that they are often sleeping where they shouldn’t be. Even night security guards for private corporations will often let the homeless find shelter in the dead of winter in one of the nooks and crannies of their properties as long as they respect the property and are out of there by dawn. Many thousands of people across Canada do this on a daily basis, and go about it quietly and without fanfare because they depend on that good-will.
I fear that the only thing these wannabe Marxist brats are going to accomplish is a general crack-down that will affect the real homeless. Meanwhile the brats can go back to their warm homes this winter and boast how they “stuck it to the man” while the homeless will have it even tougher because of their dumb protest.
And the Christian Church should be giving the wannabe Marxists more than just temporary shelter in the Church basement and support for their empty political cause — it should be giving them the spiritual alternative to the atheist Marx’s materialism: God and his Son — Jesus of Nazareth.
All the organizers want is bodies in the park, they don’t care what bodies they are or what they do there. A wino is a Communist if you give him a sign to carry.
“don’t mess it up for the real homeless people”
Good point. It’s easy to yell about the homeless, but I have to admit I’ve gotten a kick out of the real homeless managing to get a bit of a party out of this phony protest. Some better food and shelter, and, okay, maybe a toke or two.
And when the middle class types go home they’ll probably leave behind some high end sleeping bags and stuff.
Meeting nothing. Kick the selfish would-be Marxists out. What would they know about sleeping over warm grates during the winter? Selfish little brats.
….now we see if 98.99% will stand together with the 0.01% that represent the “real” disenfranchised…and those who did not see this coming need to get more involved in their community!
But Dave M……that’s just not as….fun!
Affecting real change isn’t as sexy as you know…..doing something real.
This is getting more like a Monty Python skit every day.
Remember King Arthur’s encounter with the two commoners digging in the filth?
“Who made you king, ey didn’t vote for ya.”
Ah the politically naive and historically ignorant. Transparent and democratic politics are a luxury; competent politicians are a necessity. These “Occupy” tribal councils are a huge step backward. We live in a representative democracy not a direct democracy, and we live (to some extent, if the Justices of the Supreme Court will allow it) under the rule of law. A fair and efficient court system is necessary for a society which is fair and which runs well. These little dweebs are pathetic. I suppose we will let the Canadian winter teach them a few things. Otherwise I would shoot them.
ricardo,
Thanks for sharing, you seemed to have covered everything. These guys are rejecting the very same people that they want to help … so what else is new when reality hits them in their face.
Interesting that they would meet in a church where 99%, of the so called 99%, reject the message of the church. If the follow the message of the founder, they would actually give all they own to help the homeless and adicted. Many of the corporations that the so called 99% hate, give to the less-fortunate … but they do it quietly.
Perhaps if they embraced the homeless they would start to get a little support … yet, like a true Marxists, if they can get in early on the top, the homeless are the first to suffer.
If they really want to make a change, they can start a political party … sorry, “Clown Party of Canada” is already taken, [Motto: Why put an amiture in Ottawa when you can get a professional.]
Well said, ricardo. I don’t hold too much brief for the “homeless”, most of whom I feel are homeless by choice. But they also leave me alone, and I am satisfied to leave them alone.
The “occu-bots” are giving bums a bad name.
ricardo, well said. Maybe some of the “occupiers” will leave Marx.
I see they’re talking about “solidarity with farmers”. Perhaps a group of farmers should be allowed to decide what to do with these occupy idiots. Just remember shooting varmints isn’t allowed within city limits.
The majority of the homeless I’ve seen as a doctor are on the street either because of “enlightened” government policies which closed down large mental institutions to provide for “community care” of the seriously mentally ill, or by choice. I’ve had more than one patient at St. Paul’s in Vancouver tell me how much wine they could buy with money which would otherwise be wasted on rent to a slum landlord. Sleep in Stanley Park instead of renting a bedbug infested E. Hastings hotel room and be able to drink twice as much. A policy that doesn’t work very well outside of Vancouver and Victoria but I’ve never seen back alley garbages picked clean of anything salable as quickly as I did in Vancouver.
“If the follow the message of the founder, they would actually give all they own to help the homeless and adicted.”
Not true. When Jesus told the rich young man to give all of his worldly possessions to the poor it was not for the benefit of the poor. As Jesus said in another place when arguing with the socialist do-gooder Judas, “The poor you will always have with you”. Jesus concern at the moment of confronting the rich young man was the rich young man who wanted everything including the Kingdom of Heaven.

Very astute observation Joe. One’s own spiritual condition takes precedence over material benefit. Although the Gospel does clearly teach to help the less fortunate, pay fair wages, and a whole bunch of stuff that has always had tremendous social benefit throughout Western history, it is not a Gospel of socialism — it is not the “Gospel according to Karl Marx” or Communist-inspired “Liberation Theology” which is based on atheistic materialism at the expense of one’s spiritual and moral benefit. You can’t be a “Marxist-Christian” and stay true to spiritual values.
It’s interesting that that is the one thing a “greedy right-wing capitalist” and a Marxist atheist would share in common: an empty faith in the transitory temporal and material values of this world. They are so far to the right and so far to the left that they have come full circle and met together on the issue of Godless materialism. They are mirror images of each other.
