Conservatives Win Farmers…

…on the Arctic Ocean’s fertile littoral:

Hon. Gerry Ritz…this government is very strong and very solid with Canadian farmers and with the Canadian farm sector, coast to coast to coast…

Don’t politicians ever think before they spout politically correct slogans?
Predate: For American readers I should have identified Mr Ritz as the Canadian federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

  1. Those poor farmers; out on the tundra, above the tree line have been struggling to make ends meet for generations. Now they finally have a champion to make their voices heard and enlighten us to their plight and you belittle him? Shame. Shame!

  2. Hey, you know the Tuktoyaktuk-Resolute-Hans Island spring wheat may have a short growing season but makes for great dough rising.
Can I interest you in a northern “Ritz” cracker?

  3. The answer to my prayers!
I have been looking for a new career, and the notion of raising crops in the 24 hour daylight of the tundra has a great deal of merit.
Is there some liberal philanthropist out there who would be willing to chip in oh, say $5 million a year for the next twenty years or so?
I would employ only the politically correct, of course.
Get back to me at your earliest.

  4. Ha, the growing season is so short there is no “Neutral” on a Baffin Island fertilizer spreader.

  5. Sadly they are this stupid. I mean most couldn’t pass grade six today, even in the school system from hell. Most are privileged buffoons who have never had to learn anything but sucking up to power their whole life. Just look at what makes up the Human rights kangaroo courts. The idiocy is almost as thick as Christmas cake.

  6. @ Oz: I’m up for the Canadian Ice Pool, we can go swimming with the polar bears on January 1st!!
We can have a great shindig with ice laden daquiries by ‘Pool’side with piped in music featuring that Ice Breaking tune:

    “Puttin on the RITZ”
Have you seen the well-to-do, up and down Park Avenue
On that famous thoroughfare, with their noses in the air
High hats and Arrowed collars, white spats and lots of dollars
Spending every dime, for a wonderful time
If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to
Why don’t you go where fashion sits,
    Puttin’ on the ‘Ritz’.
Different types who wear a daycoat, pants with stripes
And cut away coat, perfect fits,
    Puttin’ on the ‘Ritz’.
Dressed up like a million dollar trouper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper (super duper)
Come let’s mix where Rockefellers walk with sticks
    Or umbrellas in their mitts
    Puttin’ on the ‘Ritz’
Tips his hat just like an english chappie
To a lady with a wealthy pappy (very snappy)
You’ll declare it’s simply topping to be there
And hear them swapping smart titbits
    Puttin’ on the ‘Ritz’!
    Cheers

  7. FWIW, Inuvik had a commercial greenhouse operation at one time, in an old curling rink I think. It looked like a Quonset. I don’t know if it’s still in operation today, that was a few years back.

  8. Ritz may well have been including the northern port of Churchill. That town is going to take it in the teeth when C.W.B. is dismantled.

  9. Doesn’t every country boy deserve to have a “playing hockey out behind the barn by tractor light” story to tell? Surely you won’t deny the Inuit that privilege. They can even spice it up a bit by telling about playing hockey out behind the barn by tractor light while dodging polar bears.

  10. This remark by Ritz isnt out of line.I personally know a gent that was an elevator manager In PEI.He applied for an export permit for barley from the feds and got a notice from the CWB that THEY were the ones that exported grain offshore. He told them to mind their own business as they had no jurisdiction in PEI.He never heard from them again.

  11. I have driven by farms in the interior of Alaska(and of course lots around Anchorage) and up in the Yukon. not on the coast , but then there arent lots in Nfld or the mountain coast of Vancouver island either.

  12. What the hell is “agri-food”?
    ~nv53
Not speaking for others, but for me agri-food means cauliflower.
It tastes good steamed with cheese sauce, but the next morning…agri-vation on the evac-uation.

  13. Thank-you Ken(kulak) for posting that link to set the record stright. Mr. Ritz and Mr. Anderson are to be commended for all the work that they have done to free Western farmers from the CWB. It is a good day to celebrate with Mr. Ritz and the Conservative M.P.s who made the move happen. I have lived in the Yukon for years and we grow crops here, tubular vegetables; potatoes, turnips, carrots and beets grow to huge sizes in the long hot days of summer.
Mr. Ritz might have stretched the Artic Ocean frount importance to crop growing but I will give him lots of slack because I really am happy to see the WCB croak. I can’t wait for the WCB to have their paperwork see the light of day.
I am cheering with Mr. Ritz and Mr. Anderson and all the Western farmers who want to see the tail end of the bullies in the CWB. BTW, My Dad was a farmer in SW Sask.; he hated the CWB.
