  1. Not disputing the sentiment, but Gerry’s choice of words is needlessly petty.
He sounds more like a wet behind the ears staffer than an experienced minister of the crown.

  2. Speaking of door knob Easter, I met him one day when he was still slogging for the NFU. He asked my farmer friend if he would be interested in joining the NFU. My friend replied that one of the reasons he was farming was so he didn’t have to belong to any unions. Easter left in a huff. Of course my friend also opposed the CWB and spent countless hours researching how to grow crops that didn’t need to be marketed through the board. Peas, lentils, canola, flax etc were his bread and butter.

  3. OOPS, my comment at the top @ 4:48 PM should have read….Hopefully “GERRY” invites Wayne Doorknob Easter to help blowout the candles!

  4. Todd- any who chose to farm cereals in Western Canada was certainly a second class citizen in the eyes of the government of all the people. Shortly, that will no longer be true. The CWB does not deserve a dignified burial and will be remembered as horrible policy.

  5. The CWB was set up when the government rounded up Japanese, Germans and Italians, seized their assets and put them in concentration camps….
    Nuf said……

  6. Eastern farmers, like those in Easter bunny’s area, will be knashing their teeth as they will not be able to buy cheap western farmer’s wheat at a CWB discount. The deal was to exchange grade #1 hard western wheat for their own soft wheat when they sold to malt co.s etc. The east has always considered western farmers a nasty but useful ‘convenience’.
Time for this outdated favoritism to end. Blow out the candles, Gerry. I hope it is the last birthday of that egregious CWB. My dad will be celebrating in Heaven. Thank-you for making this day of celebration happen.

  7. todd,He may sound like a wet behind the ears staffer but if he gets rid of the Wheat Board,he’s the best Ag minister in my lifetime.
