“Apologies in advance to US readers. Don’t even attempt to understand this post.”
Yeah…life is much too shrt….this sorta fits into the “you just had to be there” category……..

  2. Apologies in advance to US readers. Don’t even attempt to understand this post.
You probably mean US readers – who are not Canadian. However, just to make sure I got the point, I’ll call home to my Mother this weekend and ask “Mommy, what do you think?”

  3. Have been watching Lloyd pay tribute to himself all week. All I could think of was poor old Lloyd musta been pretty PO’d with Layton stealing his thunder. It has been stomach-churning,sacchrine pap all wk,then again on Canada AM today. He can’t go fast enough! Mansbridge next PLEASE.

  4. Another icon of Trudeaupia passes into history. Thankyou god!
Oh well, now it’s time for Count Lloyd to write the epitaph of the Trudeaupian era with his memoirs. 1/2 the PET media tag team of Lloyd and Oliver has hit he big easy. When Oliver goes who will be left on the Trudeaupian network to regail us with the shiboleths of Teudeaupia? Perhaps one of the Hoser royal brats will sit in for Lloyd and Craig?
The Justin Trudeau news hour – nice ring – waddaya think CTV?, what better way to keep the Trudeaupian myth alive than to hire a CTV news anchor who was fed PET royal jelly?

  5. So just how old is dirt? Younger than Lloyd I gather. The Eagle really needs to be next. And soon. Like tomorrow.

  6. “And that’s the kind of social engineering, anti-conservative, biased, left-wing news coverage day it’s been.”
Get ready. With Lisa La Phlegm, it will only get worse.
    More reason to watch SunNews.

  7. And along with Frank Q.: this will be good for Sun News as people who don’t care for Uncle Lloyd’s replacement might be willing to give the competition a try. (I assume the major lefties already watch the CBC and so won’t be affected.)

  8. Yes. The spectacle of Robertson paying tribute to himself is somewhat less than entertaining.
Memo to Lloyd: You read the news on TV for pete’s sake. You did not discover a cure for cancer. You did not put your life on the line for King and country. Get over yourself. The fact that you managed to do your job for 100 years is noteworthy and commendable but that’s where it ends.

  9. Kate, this had me in stitches. My wife is from Europe, and ever since she first saw Lloyd Robertson on TV some twenty or so years ago she’s always referred to him as “The Mummy”.

  10. Count Floyd has decided to remain in his crypt … thankfully.
If the Pepsodent toothpaste company was still in business, they could use a guy like Floyd in their “You’ll wonder where the yellow went” slogan as the ‘before’.
I mean to say … have you ever noticed the Count’s teeth? With all that money he has you’d think he would have invested a bit of it in his Chicklets.
So who is the replacement …. Lisa La Phlegm?

  11. Maybe he will now go into semi-retirement and write pathetic articles about how we don’t need Sun News in Canada.
    Here’s to wishful thinking.

  12. Never liked his “that’s the kind of day it’s been” tagline. Sounds like something dreamed up in a meeting.

  13. The whole concept of the nightly newsman is something I’ve never been able to comprehend. I’d rather the network news organizations have a different person read the news each and every night than to have to endure the endless drivel how network A says their nightly newsman is “the most trusted” while network B says, “no, ours is the most trusted”. I don’t give a rat’s ass that Robertson is retiring. Why should I? I’d rather a cyborb read the news in that whacky 70’s computer voice than watch a 7 figures a year “personality” tell me what “kind of day it’s been”. Give me a freaking break.

  14. Ah, Lloyd.
    Talk about “The Long Goodbye”.
Every time I hear him on CTV News reporting this, that and the other, he seems to be slurring his words a lot.
Must be the hip flask of Jameson.
All things considered, I’d still take Joe Flaherty and Eugene Levy any day…

  15. “And that’s the kind of day it’s been” is the worst closing to a show that I have ever heard, I cringe EVERY time I hear it.

  16. And I’ll sleep better tonite, knowing that Lloyd likes a cup of tea,and a slice of banana bread! Sheesh. Omar Sachedina shared this important tidbit today.

  17. You have to give him marks for Spreading BS to Canadians 1952.Starting of course with CBC. Don’t they all?
Got away with it till the internet age. He should get the Liberal conman award for a lifes achievment of pulling the wool over everyones eyes for years.

The name of the recurring character ‘Earl Camembaert’ on “SCTV” (1976), played by Eugene Levy, was a parody of Earl Cameron’s days as newsreading anchor of the CBC National News (1959-1966) [“CBC News: The National” (1970)]. 18. just got the homemade HD antenna working. Wow, what a picture, and no cable/dish!
now if there were something worth watching…..

  19. It is unseemly to make mock of Tutankhamen. During his
very sort reign he did much to undo the damage wrought by
Akhnaten and restore Egypt to the greatness it had achieved
under his more remote forebears such as Thutmose III and
    Amenhotep III.

  20. I’d rather have a colonoscopy than listen to anything he says.
Good riddance. I vote for Max Headroom as the replacement news reader.

  21. I once spent a day working in the CTV newsroom, and I came away with a good opinion of Lloyd. He was conscientious about checking every item being proposed for the night’s news. He took the position that he had to have some kind of grounds for believing what he said to people, or he couldn’t let himself say it. Most of the journalists I’ve met take the position, “Say anything. Nobody’s paying attention anyway”. So I thought Lloyd, despite his shortcomings, was still a cut above.
Of course, he was old and creaky then, and that was 25 years ago. I understand if his standards have slipped just a bit.

  22. John Lewis – found the Amarna Art movement and invent monotheism before you have the cojones to diss Akhenaten.

  23. “You mean Lloyd isn’t a marionette left over from Fireball XL5! Who knew?!!!!”
C’mon, now. Fireball XL5? Get serious.
Everybody knows Lloyd did the voice of crusty old Commander Shore in Stingray.
Lloyd was dying to use his famous Stingray catch-phrase* at CTV News but they wouldn’t let him for copyright reasons. So he was more or less stuck with that lame “that’s-the-kind-of-day-it’s-been” line.
    * “Anything can happen in the next half-hour!”
