  1. Those leftist bureaucrats!
Just like a sticky piece of dry snot you just can’t quite get your fingernail to peel away!

  2. THAT Brian Lilley! What a breath of fresh air.
I heard his Byline last night on his show. He and the other Sun guys are handing the Conservatives a ready-made agenda—not the usual pap, but the really hard stuff.
If the Conservatives don’t smarten up and clean house—maybe they’re waiting for the kind of information the Sun’s disseminating to really get out there—I’ll be furious. They now have that majority: the usual suspects (Liberal bureaucrats, the MSM, and, in particular, the CBC) are still slamming and shaming them. WHEN are the Conservatives going to do some pay back? It’s about time.

  3. This fall Brian, this fall, just wait till Harper has a few weeks of a majority. This brain disorder called liberalism will come under closer scrutiny.

  4. Oh at last somebody is raising the issue of the Lieberals and their “leadership” issues. This has been driving me to distraction since the first extension and will continue to do so until the issue is settled. I agree completely the Mayrand has to go and replaced with someone who actually is non-partisan. Hopefullly they will stay on this story and get some answers. No one else in the MSM cares but it speaks to fairness and equal protection under law. Seems pretty straight forward.

  5. Was there any consequence even within the CBC? Did the guy who pressed the wrong button not get a reprimand, fired, etc for not doing his job correctly.
Nice that Elections Canada knows the mind of CBC and knows that they “didn’t mean to”. I mean, they are all friends and attend the same social circles so of course there can be no malfeasance, because they are “just like me”.
At least $1,000 fine please and some indication that the CBC has repromanded the appropriate individuals internally.

  6. Number one on the agenda should be to dissolve the CRTC. In so doing open the door for more balanced political commentary in the Canadian dialogue.
    First the CRTC… Mr. Harper

  7. Elections Liberal is a perfect name. Marc Mayrand appears to be about as unbiased as Warren Kinsella is.
Brian Lilley being a breath of fresh air is absolutely right.
bartinsky, hopefully you are right, as I have been waiting since 1968 for some push back to liberalism gone rogue.

  8. And we wonder why progress by the Conservative government is so slow. Multiply Marc Mayrand by ten thousand, that’s how many of these Liberal apparatchiks are still beavering away in the Federal bureaucracy, many of them in high places.
Tax cut now. I’d like my right to self defense and my right to own property back as well, please.

  9. The CBC operates under different laws than everyone else. Not bad enough they are biased liars. Sell it to the employees for $1. No golden parachutes for anyone. Then, let us sit back and watch it spin in to oblivion.

  10. What Phantom said…..
Ontario has the very same problem.
The one advantage we have, in Ontario, is Julian Fantino…he knows where some of the bodies are buried.

  11. It’s going to be interesting to see how Harper and the CPC handle this issue and other similar issues. Will they 1) fire partisan bureaucrats like Mayrand outright, or 2) have a committee perform a “study”, make recommendations, and then act upon those recommendations, or 3) opt for mass reductions in the federal bureacracy?
The third one is interesting. I have seen some earlier analyses by people who have looked at the CPC campaign promises to both cut the federal deficit and maintain spending in health care at traditional levels while similtaneously slowly reducing tax levels. From one of the analyses, someone earlier in the summer had suggested a large reduction on the order of 80,000 retiring federal bureuacrats would not be replaced. Someone else had said that even that would not be enough, that programs would need to be cut.
The CPC can choose any mix of all three of the options. One would think that an intelligent bureaucrat would want to keep his job, would sense that the wind is blowing in a different direction, and that there is a new sheriff in town. On the other hand, bureacrats like Mayrand sure make the job easy when they wave their hand in the air and metaphorically shout “Pick me!”

  12. The Phantom is right. The pace of replacing liberal hacks at the head of agencies is proceeding at a glacial pace = even with global warming.
Even some PC hacks like the head of CBC, CHRC, Heritage Canada and PSIC (the integrity non-body) could go and no one would notice.
Well, except the taxpayers who pay their grotesque salaries. Our buddy (the A/Commish) over at the CHRC gets to travel weekly from Winnipeg-Ottawa-Winnipeg weekly and stay and eat in Ottawa on the public dole.
Harper is NOT paying attention to the little things that will eventually get him in trouble.

  13. Not that easy to fire the Chief Electoral officer
“The Chief Electoral Officer is appointed by resolution of the House of Commons to hold office during good behaviour. He or she may be removed for cause by the Governor General on address of the Senate and the House of Commons.”
The operative words are “during good behaviour” which is pretty much the same as a judicial appointment. When you consider what it takes to remove a judge (hint: when is the last time that happened), Harper’s hands are tied in this case. Unless Mayrand gets caught with his hand in the till or up his secretary’s skirt, he serves out his term.
The same goes for a lot of the quasi-judicial appointments (Human Rights Tribunals, for example). So don’t be too hard on the PM. He’s not a dictator – he’s bound by law.
If you’re interested, this is where you will find the terms and conditions of the various appointments – those that are “during good behaviour” are almost impossible to remove, those that are “at pleasure” can be fired any time.

  14. A perfect example of the endemic malfeasance of partisans in the bureaucracy and our complete lack of accountability for civil service Poobahs.
What the hell ever happened to the accountability/transparency agenda that Harper
championed. I mean, did they stop after two or three minor changes?? – my God this system is so vast and there is so little accountability for senior civil servants, that reforming government is a generational task.

  15. He’s so blatantly biased it’s sickening, when they allowed the unregistered voting station results to stand in Ontario I gave up hoping for fairness and even handedness.

  16. The Chief Electoral Officer definitely has to go. In addition to the violations pointed out by Brian Lilley, we have the most recent incident: his failure to catch the NDP in the conflict of interest re: donations to the Ed Broadbent foundation in memory of Jack Layton through the NDP and their abuse of the 75% political tax-deduction exemption.
It is inexcusable that bureaucrats with six-figure salaries cannot catch even the most publically obvious violations. SUN TV and bloggers aren’t being paid to do the guy’s job.
These people have become so brazen in their biases and confident that they will never be held to account, that don’t even do it “under the table”. It’s all quite public.

  17. I would hope that the first item on the agenda would be the dismantling of the CRTC. That agency that assures more liberal media than free market conservative.

  18. BTW,the CBC has said that their vote compass was fair because the people behind it had ‘impeccable’ credentials.
I received a document from them that says so. They also admit the algorithm that was used has a ‘proprietary’ value. I’m not sure what that means. However, the proof is in the pudding, and they won’t show us the pudding or the results of their ‘vote compass’ scam.
Blatant electoral fraud,by the CBC,protected by Elections Canada.

  19. I have this recurring dream that Stephen sweeps his arm and clears the entire table and rebuilds anew from a common sense and common decency perspective.
Wake me up when it happens for real.

  20. Step One – Destroy the Libranos
Step Two – Let the Dippers have enough rope to hang themselves
Step Three – Clean the sewers in the Ottawa bureaucracies.
