Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
“I fully expect Olivia to throw herself on Jack’s funeral pyre.”
Oh, that was good. I must admit I do like a decent Korean BBQ (yeah, I know she’s Chinese but from the same ‘hood). I won’t say anything bad about Jack out of respect for the dead, but his fans are certainly going a bit over the top.
I can remember when Turdo died and what a wonderful party we had that night. Now we have the media ramming DeadJackMania, down our throats, demanding conformity of opinion and a politically correct emotional sentimentality. I’m sure that when Castro dies the media will also demand the same politically correct conformity of opinion, while referring to him as “Fidel”, just as the MSM nauseatingly refer to Layton as “Jack”, like we’re all at some deranged AA meeting. The media creation of DeadJackMania is a sickening embarrassment, mania of course being a mental disorder. I do have empathy for Laytons family and friends, but I couldn’t care less what politically correct sentimental conformity the MSM demands.
Robert
Thanks, that’s 5 minutes of my life I won’t get back!
What a cretinous website
Can we please have a public cremation with a massive pyre, so that all the lefties can commit suttee?
For those ‘sick oh Jack 24/7’, turn off the news.
Remember, you have a choice.
If Mansbridge and others of his ilk want to continue this public jag, ad nauseum, fine, whatever, but we don’t have to go down the rat hole with them.
The coverage is sickening. The public Jack, was a career politician, an opportunist of the worst kind, who reinforced the lefty credo, that the individual is never responsible for anything, the government can solve all ills.
The good thing, the NDP is now completely rudderless without him, although they will find some crackpot (Mulcair, Martin, Davies) to take over. That’s when the fun begins
Do all the NDP place holders in the last election now have constituency offices where one can go to mourn Jack with dedicated fellow social democrats? If not,is there a roadside shrine somewhere?
Jack’s off to the great big rub and tug in the sky.
‘Stay thirsty my friends..’
“The good thing, the NDP is now completely rudderless without him, although they will find some crackpot (Mulcair, Martin, Davies) to take over. That’s when the fun begins.”
You know how to cheer us, DanBC.
lookout re Olivia: “she’s a fuse short of a firecracker.” LOL!
Jack Layton was the Left’s public face. He was their mouthpiece. His death is a huge loss for them, because he was their Golden Boy and there’s no one in the wings who comes even close to his happy-go-lucky image.
I’m very sorry for his family, friends’ and party’s loss. But as I regard the NDP’s policies to be social disasters for most Canadians, I can’t pretend that Jack is a demi-god or the Saviour of “the Canadian Way,” as he’s being portrayed in the maudlin and mawkish media coverage blanketing our airwaves.
As for “national mourning,” it was reported by Mark Bonokowski this evening, from Winnipeg, that west of Ontario there is no Layton loss hysteria.
A “companion” article” to Ms. Blatchford’s sane one over at American Thinker, “Death of a Socialism Salesman”:
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/08/death_of_a_socialism_salesman.html
tell me what did layton ever do?
There is a comment on the CBC website that Layton’s passing was “Canada’s 9/11”. It just doesn’t get any more bizarre than that.
This is nothing compared to the seizures we saw with Trudeau’s death.
Sad for his family, sad for his friends, sad for NDPers. Everyone else has already moved on.
However, this is a ratings bonanza for TV news (which I don’t watch anyway) and mainstream columnists. These “inside baseball” types just feed on each other. Going against the grain is like breaking wind in a crowded room.
So many photos of Jack Layton with photo-shopped bright blue eyes!
He must have been a saint!
Should his embalmed body not lie in state somewhere in red square?
Perhaps the appropriate Canadian equivalent might be say a certain large ‘public’ building somewhere on Front St.West?
That way the proles can line up for their turn to genuflect towards the late wannabee dear leader, while the fount of the echoing words of his wisdom washes over them from the bowels of the mausoleum?
I can’t understand why they were so down on Christie, I thought Chris Selley and John Ivison were way over the top. By the way, Kevin Libin’s column was worth the read also.
Oh dear, Layton was a career politician…but I suppose if he followed Harper’s lead and worked for one year in the Imperial Oil mailroom he would have gotten some worldly, real life experience and no longer would be referred to as a career politician.
I love the blind hypocracy of so many posters here: the left are amoral and will say or do anything to advance their ideology…now excuse me while I demonstrate proper right wing morality by mocking a dead man and those grieving for him.
I have to hand it to Harper though: at least he is showing some class in how he deals with Layton`s death. Too bad so many others on the right can`t.
May I make a suggestion to SDA? We should do like Sun TV did, and move on already. Many of us paid due respect to the man in the first thread the day of his passing. There are more pressing matters in the world to discuss. This subject should be put behind us. This is the last I will post on the subject.
Alice Moran reads like a free spirit who breast feeds her own dog, thinking “doesn’t everyone?”
I’m not surprised by the reaction of the left to Blathford’s column.
Have you seen Andrew Breitbart’s twitter stream? He receives some of the most disgusting, vile threats and comments from the supposedly caring liberals that I’ve ever seen.
“I have to hand it to Harper though: at least he is showing some class in how he deals with Layton`s death”
PMSH has more class in one cell than most of his political opponents possess in their entire bodies. Despite a concerted effort by the media to portray him as an evil despot and his own unwillingness to issue warm and fuzzy, not to mention meaningless pronouncements, Harper has shown, time and again, that he is a man of integrity and honour.
If certain finger-wagging, left-leaning individuals would actually take the time to read the posts and refrain from yipping in chihuahua-like fashion, they just might discover that the vast majority are expressing outrage and disgust over the three ring circus that has evolved around Mr. Layton’s death … not his actual passing.
I hear you, Colin, but we, indeed, HAVE moved on from Jack’s death, which most here treated with the respect it deserved: sincere sympathy for both him and his family.
We’re now into a new and more edgy chapter: Jack’s canonization, which is happening even faster than Pope JP II’s. (The National Post has FIVE pages about Jack today—not all of it worshipping Him, thank goodness.) The over-the-top, typical lefty, feeding frenzy we’re seeing is a very unhealthy social phenomenon. Don’t these people have a real life?
Mass hypnotised, for a long time, by the consensus media, these ignoramuses literally worship a mere, and altogether flawed politician—think others like Trudeau and Obama—about whom they’d be unable to tell anyone more than “He wanted/wants to help the people”: what tripe: these Marxists did/do the opposite. Mass hypnosis of the sheeple is certainly something that needs to be exposed and discussed—ridiculed too. It is not attractive in any way. In fact, it’s maudlin and tacky—even dangerous because the appeal is simply to the emotions: people’s impressionable heads are being filled with lies that lead to unsound thoughts and actions. 1984, here we are. That’s a pretty “pressing matter” for Canada, I think, and I’m all for people of sound mind, who know a thing or two, exposing the idiocy of what’s happening.
P.S. More lunacy: I’ve just heard that the carillon at the Peace Tower is going to play two selections as Jack’s casket leaves the building: “O Canada” and . . . wait for it: John Lennon’s “Imagine”.
My kids used to have all those little plastic, pastel ponies: by the minute, Canada’s turning into Magic Pastel Plastic Pony Land: I’ll bet there’s a unicorn there somewhere! Please, let this lunacy stop!
PMSH is a smart cookie, though. He knows that if he didn’t go along with the toddlers’ funeral wishes, they’d have had a tantrum. So, he’s indulging the loony left and letting them make fools of themselves. Hopefully, having conceded to the big show of the funeral, PMSH will say no to the other, utterly arrogant, special privileges being suggested, e.g., that Jack posthumously be given the honorific “The Right Honourable”. I think having the CN Tower and, now, Niagara Falls too, lit up in orange, is quite enough, thank you.
Niagara Falls! You’ve got to be kidding? And “Imagine” has no place in the public realm of a country that professes to believe in the principle of a loving God. They played that in Vancouver at the opening of the “sails” at the convention center at the waterfront on Christmas Day. Besides the fact that the whole concept of the sails was a rip-off of the Sydney opera house, it was just plain tacky: everyone swaying to Lennon’s paean to his atheism and his belief that he was more popular than God.
Robert, good catch. Moran’s letter to Christie exemplifies the thinking of Marxists perfectly.
lookout, exactly.
DanBC’s comment @ 8:54 ‘The good thing, the NDP is now completely rudderless without him, although they will find some crackpot (Mulcair, Martin, Davies) to take over. That’s when the fun begins’ is exactly where our thinking should be focused now rather than the sickening glorification of Jack.
Jack’s gone and along with him, are the chances of duping the electorate with “He’s a good guy”. Even the CBC wankers knows you can’t have a beer with a stiff that used to be magnetic. Now the marxist Statists have to sell the equal sharing of misery, fear and death on it’s own merits without the happy face.
That’s why they’ve balled up their little fists and lashed out at anybody that makes eye contact. They’re grieving for their own entitlements, their gravy train has come off the tracks. “BooHoo whoa is ME”
Nice work Christie Blatchford, she is Canada’s best journalist. I judge her by her enemies.

Jack Layton was Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
Jack Layton didn’t get a chance to lead Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
Parliament has been in recess since the election Jack helped engineer earlier this year.
