Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“…Though vampire bats are found only in Latin America, their range may be expanding into the United States due to climate change, the report said…”
You can always pick out the writers who aspire to work for National Catastrophic magazine…
It clearly stated he was bitten while in Mexico. The fact that he died in the U.S. is irrelevant. He could have died in Norway on vacation for all it matters.
Stupid. Unless he went to the States because of climate change it has nothing to do with anything.
“…Though vampire bats are found only in Latin America, their range may be expanding into the United States due to climate change, the report said…”
Yeah…..army ants, killer bees…..
Speculation based on a poliitical fad. Mean temperatures have been cooling since the strong 1998 El Nino…..
Hide the decline….
“Vampire bats are climate.”
Oh. Thanks to the many posts here on SDA,I, a humble peasant, am starting to get an inkling of the difference between climate and weather.
This one, I didn’t anticipate. My education continues…..
“Though vampire bats are found only in Latin America, their range may be expanding into the United States due to climate change,”
So… there saying that illegal immigration from Latin America is caused by Global Warming?
It seems more likely to me that the bats are simply coming to America looking for jobs.
What about the Anchor Bat Babies?
If wishing that he’d rise from the dead and begin a worldwide epidemic of vampirism is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.
The thread title isn’t exactly accurate. Weather IS climate when it buttresses AGW conjecture, for example a heat wave. But, weather is not climate when it is inconsistent with AGW conjecture. C’mon people, it’s simple!

Killer bees are needed to fight the scourge vampire bats headed north.
Eventually, they will also kill polar bears that are migrating from the north.
We welcome our new killer bee overlords an pledge our eternal allegiance!
In August 2010, CDC confirmed a case of rabies in a migrant farm worker, aged 19 years, hospitalized in Louisiana with encephalitis. The man developed acute neurologic symptoms at the end of July, shortly after arriving in the United States from Michoacán, Mexico.
Michoacán is located in west-central Mexico.
They Vant to suck your BLOOD!
The “Settled Science” losers, not the bats.
Colin in BC:
You nailed it.
I am almost done “State of Fear”. A great read that is such an excellent insight into this concerted propaganda campaign. I really miss Crichton.
Buy shares in wooden stake manufacturing and garlic farms.
This finally explains all that rainfall over in Forks, Washington USA.
Vampires move around and the climate changes..
We could use some of those blood suckers in drought ridden Texas..
So I should worry about rabid bats with southerm accents and forget about rabid skunks in Chicago?
Surely the problem is illegal coffin imports and unregulated trade in Transylvanian soil? Still, I’m following The Phantom’s investment advice. I’ve already purchased a substantial stake!
speaking of things climate related,
I notice a strong desire to drawl my speech and willingness to use one or two word sentences while outdoors in some southern U.S. States this time of the year.
I don’t think that is do to any “global warming” though, it’s just plane hot as sh** down there.
do = due
and I believe plane should be; plain
yes one’s brains will literally fry in that sunshine
not that, that excuses any grade 6 education though Jethro Bodine seemed to get by just fine.
Whatever you do… please ignore the fact that southern species are migrating northward. Forget the fact that the pine beetle population is out of control due to warmer winters. And do NOT consider the fact that the growing season is now more than 10 days longer than it was 25 years ago. AND DO NOT even think about looking at the fact that the military’s of all Arctic nations are preparing for ice free summers. That just wouldn’t do.
Now I know that all of these things are easily proven to be true, so the danger here is that it might force you to consider why? Certainly the migrating species and longer growing seasons can’t possibly indicate a warming trend. No. It must be that they now thrive colder weather, and that thermometers across the planet are simply calibrated incorrectly. Yeah… that must be it!
Yes, blanks, you really should make more of an effort to clear up your spelling and grammar. 🙂
I told you people about the rabies-infested bat problem weeks ago so you’re a little late to the garlic/wooden stake futures market. Rabies infected bats was first reported in Sask but it has now moved to the Britain, Mexico and the US – the rapid rate of rabies expansion strongly suggest the work of the Illuminati or possibly Teabaggers.
As recommended before, the best defense to prevent being bitten is to hide in a bat eradicating wind farm.
John; see your Doctor. You may have been bitten by a rabid penguin.
John
pretty sure the pine beetle thing is much more likely due to man caused forest fire suppression than climate change and the rest you are probably just making up.
See how typos, grammar and sentence structure mistakes are properly handled, blanks. Never apologize.

lc
yeah, but then you get some liberal that says “U R uneducated” and takes your spelling mistake as proof of his/her left-tarded victory.
Vampire bats are climate.
But, I’m wondering.
Could vampire bats ever be weather too?
John. You’ll find it very hard to find a skeptic who doesn’t believe it’s probably gotten warmer over the past 30 some odd years (although there has been some questioning whether there has been significant warming since the 1998 El Nino summer).
You raise a convenient straw man that many AGW bed-wetters bring up.
No, what the skeptics argue is that a trace atmospheric gas is not a significant driver of climate change, up or down. Given the shenanigans the usual AGW suspects have engaged in (hide the decline, etc.), frankly one truly has to marvel at those who still cling to the AGW dogma.
Blanks, no, there is no forest fire suppression conspiracy causing the infestation (Nor is it the fault of the DDT ban, or the Palestinians). It’s because winters have not been sufficiently cold enough, creating a situation where the bug is thriving. Here is but one report on the issue:
http://www.mpb.alberta.ca/Files/pdf/MPBOverwinteringSheet-Jan2010.pdf
As for “making up” the fact that the growing season is getting longer, or the military powers with interest in the Arctic preparing for ice free summers, are you serious?
Dude, this information is freely available on the internet. There have been countless news reports about the military preparing for an ice free Arctic, and any number of institutions have published info on the lengthening of the growing season:
http://eospso.gsfc.nasa.gov/eos_homepage/for_scientists/data_products/OurChangingPlanet/PDF/Page_283_new.pdf
Now you can diss NASA all you want, but this isn’t rocket science here. It’s simply plotting frost free days on a graph to indicate changes over the past few decades.
If you guys still want to play games and deny the fact that humans are responsible for climate change, that’s fine by me. But don’t be so utterly stupid as to deny that there has been a warming trend over the past few decades when it’s so easily observable.
Again, John. By citing examples pointing to a warming climate, you prove nothing. Because climate has appeared to warm slightly in recent decades, it does not follow that humans are the cause.
Actually Colin, no. What you are seeing right here is people denying that it’s getting warmer. That’s exactly the point of this post… to mock the notion that vampire bats migrating north has anything to do with climate change.
Now, as for what you call “trace amounts”. 29 gigatons is hardly tiny, though in comparison to that of the natural world, it is tiny. Problem is, while the natural world is constantly adding and removing carbon to the ecosystem, humans are only putting it out there and not taking any away.
http://www.skepticalscience.com/human-co2-smaller-than-natural-emissions.htm
And even on the very, very, very remote chance that the science is wrong, how exactly is it a bad idea to conserve energy, a finite resource?
Remember back when being a conservative meant you “conserved”? That was cool. Now, you people have thrown the old saying “waste not, want not” to the wind. So much for respecting old fashioned values.
@Colin, at least you admit that it’s warmer. That’s a start I guess.
Snow in Auckland, New Zealand yesterday for the first time in 76 years.
Yep, I’m also sure glad Colin admitted it’s getting warmer.
Indy, I R uneducated.
John,
Historically, a warming planet and, therefore, more plant food is better for human development. Geologically, the planet’s average C02 content was much higher than today’s.
In many ways, fossil fuel burning is restoring CO2 to the atmosphere that were rudely locked away in the Carboniferous Period. Restoring is as good or better than conserving, don’t you think?
@set,
As has been pointed out a trillion or so times, the trend is towards warmer temperatures. That’s the fact jack. It’s also why they call it climate change, because it’s not just about warmer… it’s about weirder. Nobody ever said it’s not going to snow again.
I’m due back on earth, so you guys have fun.

Betcha it ain’t… 😉
Hey John, just FYI, in the debt-ceiling bill Obama cut the funding for preparing our military for ice-free-summers.
Obambi also cut the funding for Peter Theil’s Libertarian Seastanding Project.
,
The AGW nuts have gone batty there so into their opium dream.
And even on the very, very, very remote chance that the science is wrong, how exactly is it a bad idea to conserve energy, a finite resource?
John
Hmm and now John you resort to the biggest lie, AGW does not conserve energy. Every solution to AGW wastes resources. Wealth is a measure of work. Work consumes energy…Wasting wealth for inefficient solutions only works if the whole system fails & consumption ceases… Is that your plan?
The folks using the new “Climate Change” moniker are taking cover in fact that Climate Change is a fact of Nature that has been changing for 4.5 B years and counting …That is not the same as AGW with the fraudulent science, fear mongering, political posturing, wealth destroying solutions…
IMHO AGW is suffering from Toulouse-Lautrec Syndrome, it’s only growing in the minds of little people with evil intent. Perhaps Susuki fancies himself a Canadian Toulouse as his science never grew beyond the obvious…. that Obvious converted in $$$$
give it up john, the ‘agw’ crowd is re-marshalling at the ‘overpopulation’ tent.
lc
historically, those bastards in Alberta should never have cleaned-up the oil bubbling to the surface.
John:
A rabies infected Mexican going to the US is not an example of a species migrating north.
I just saw that 4 Million / yr die from malaria. That certainly is due to DDT, or lack thereof.
John
I didn’t say anything about a forest fire suppression conspiracy.
See how your inventing your own science while those not paying attention might assume you were telling the truth.
Fact is putting out the forest fires is the real reason the pine beetles are out of control. Far as “warmer winters” go, where do you get your science?
Mountain pine beetle
Fall and burn – is cutting (felling) and burning beetle-infested trees to prevent the spread of beetle populations to other areas. This is usually done in winter, to reduce the risk of starting forest fires.
“…the peak warmth of the MWP was typically, but not universally, greater than the peak warmth of the CWP has been to date. And that earlier period of greater warmth occurred at a time when the atmosphere’s CO2 concentration was fully 100 ppm less than it is today, indicative of the fact that the earth has experienced equivalent or warmer temperatures than those of the present when there was much less CO2 in the air.”
Sorry, but AGW it isn’t.
Whole report here – rips to shreds most of the “chicken littles” theories, er, lies.
http://www.co2science.org/education/reports/prudentpath/toc.php
Warning: Plenty of polysyllabic words.
historically, those bastards in Alberta should never have cleaned-up the oil bubbling to the surface.
Ahh…but they are also uneducated. You know engineers, techs, applied science, trades etc. – skilled labor. From what I have gathered from my intellectual and moral superiors only a J-school degree qualifies one to have an opinion on complicated matter. This opinion is then reinforced by self-selected experts and politicians are tasked with implementing the consensus.
Only wordsmiths are truly educated.
It’s also why they call it climate change, because it’s not just about warmer… it’s about weirder. Nobody ever said it’s not going to snow again.

First, it was global warming.
Then, it was climate change.
Now, it’s climate weird.
Make up your mind, you scientific illiterate.
Its all going bad for the greenies. All their dreams have become the dust of the long dead.
Seattle’s ‘green jobs’ program a bust
Last year, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced the city had won a coveted $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization. The unglamorous work of insulating crawl spaces and attics had emerged as a silver bullet in a bleak economy – able to create jobs and shrink carbon footprint – and the announcement came with great fanfare.

Is that John the same John Cross who used to insist the satellite data supported the computer climate models?
‘Cause it shore don’t no mores, John.
I think that should be the new name…Climate Weird.
@John
About ten years ago prominent British AGW proponents were bemoaning the fact that today’s youthful looters would not experience snow.
Of course the last two winters in the U.K. have been some of the coldest and snowiest on record.
Weird eh?
