Jack Granatstein, Canada’s leading military historian, describes the simple and unpretty truth about many Québecois in a book review concerning Canadian censorship during WW II (note also how Anglo-Saxon–now RoC–media attitudes have changed):
…
This story…was different in the French-language media and for all the wrong reasons. Newspapers such as Le Devoir were unabashedly anti-war, anti-British, anti-conscription, anti-Semitic and anti-Charles de Gaulle, and were fervent advocates for the Vichy French government led by Marshal Philippe Pétain. Le Devoir’s Georges Pelletier essentially outfaced the censors, publishing his claptrap without real checks because, Bourrie argues without providing quite enough evidence, Ottawa politicians, notably justice ministers Ernest Lapointe and Louis St. Laurent, were afraid of a government-media confrontation that could turn Quebec opinion even more against the war effort. Here, the Directorate of Censorship, which frequently viewed Le Devoir as “this German paper published in French … [that] systematically and with gross misrepresentation and distortion of facts continually sabotages the Canadian war effort,” was held in check by frightened politicians…
Not something you’ll have read about much in recent times, eh? Then there was PET:
Trudeau: Intellectual fool; moral imbecile

A number of years ago I read an article which quoted a French commentator that said that the socialism practiced by the Parti Quebecois was of the National Socialist (Nazi) variety.
Really this blog is completely full of crap… im going to stop reading and commenting ….
it is not worth it to argue with idiots.
Have fun with your idiocy people of SDA….
Life in Canada would have been somuch better if Quebec had seperated. Now its too late. They have abrogated their position with a bith rate to extincton.
As for PET he was our Obama. Why do we still go alog with this bi-lingualism scam? That was just a job creation program for French Canadians to take over the civil service & load burdons on Canadian buisness while reversing the Plains of Abraham win by the British. Pets vison was larger than just a Quebec Nation. He wanted all of Canada to be Quebec. His communist Constitution proved that.

Trudeau: Intellectual fool; moral imbecile
That pretty much sums it up.
Kweebeck NDPissed, I agree entirely re arguing with idiots, g’bye.
Dear Quebec NDP: Here’s your hat what’s your hurry. Don’t go away mad just go away. Don’t leave now, 2 days ago would have been better. Oh and you can let the door hit you on the butt on the way out. It will symbolize the intellectual beating you took from posting your brand of nonsense on SDA.
Mark, thanks for the link to Damien Penny. That article was nice summary of what Trudeau’s long range plans for Canada were. Trudeau replaced classical liberalism in the Liberal Party with Marxism and the party has not recovered its roots and only sunk lower in the depths of Marxist ideology.
qNDPiste, good, go wallow in your little commie world if you can not stand to read the truth.
I think the G&B article title should actually read: The FROG of War
More to the point, Trudeau was a moral coward, a man smart enough to see and understand the complete evilness of Nazism and not only unwilling to stand up and be counted, but mock those who did.
Pierre Trudeau . . . 100% Moral Coward.
Explains why he was so BFF with a mass murdering dictator like Fidel Castro.
And it really explains his idiot son Justin.

Another quebec Zombie weighs in, though because of his whitewashed history education he doesn’t even know what the word Zombie means in reference to to quebec and WWII.
Quebec is still pissed about 1759, and they are not going to get over it. Before that the English and the French have hated each other since, basically, the beginning of time. With the history that the English and the French have from 1066 to 1815 and beyond, whoever thought that it would be a good idea to put them together in the same country either had absolutly no knowledge of history, or a really twisted sense of humour.
I wonder how the average quebecer thinks things would have turned out if Wolfe hadn’t triumphed in ’59? I think the likely outcome would be that Quebec would have been sold to the Americans as part of the Louisiana Purchase and “the French Fact” in North America would become the french historical footnote. Of course if that happened it is also unlikely that Canada would exist anymore either. If that happened with my family history I probably would have ended up being American or Australian, either of which would be fine by me.
“Jack Granatstein, Canada’s leading military historian……..”
Um, no.
The man is a hack. Not even remotely close to being in the same class of historian as the Whitakers or Zuehlke to name a few.
Don’t get me started. When I spoke with Trudeau’s Minister of State for External Affairs visiting Honduras in the early ’80’s — Hon. Allan J. MacEachen — to acquaint him with my work as a Canadian NGO there, the Minister’s response was one word: “CIA”! That’s right, helping war refugee escapees from Communism meant that I must be a CIA agent working for the Americans. It was a sad example of Trudeau’s “policy” for Latin America (see http://ricardostories.wetpaint.com/page/32+years+after+the+revolution+Reagan+is+right).
I hope the lid comes off all of it, and I’m encouraged by the fact that they are looking into de-classifying some of the documents on the NDP’s darling Tommy Douglas as well and his early connections to Commie orgs in Chicago. It would be nice if they did same with Pierre Trudeau — I would be especially curious to know about the secret deal Trudeau struck with Fidel Castro during the FLQ crisis in order to keep Cuba from accepting FLQ terrorists fleeing justice in Canada. I already have a sense about what that deal was, but it would be nice to see it made public — I hope the RCMP allows the de-classification of all those documents at some point to enhance the historical understanding of all Canadians.
I actually saw Pierre Trudeau once. I was in the honor guard for the royal visit in 1976. There he was, walking beside Queen Elizabeth. They were almost the same height. The Queen is a lot of things, tall isn’t one of them.
As to the Quebec newspapers, they were just ahead of their time. Now ALL the newspapers sabotage the Canadian war effort. CF-35 anyone? Sea Kings? Tanks? Body count?
QuebecNDPee-er said: “Really this blog is completely full of crap… im going to stop reading and commenting ….”
Awesome. Another troll bites the dust.
quebeckercommie – “Really this blog is completely full of crap… im going to stop reading and commenting ….”
Big talk. You threatened to seperate the last time something annoyed you.
Wasn’t PET going around wearing Nazi insignia in the ’30s? Oh, sure, he was just a teen…
Another chance to kick around pet.
He was the quintessential quebec traitor. A lite- in-the-loafers commie wordsmith who conned TRoC.
His discreditation is almost complete. As more information comes to light his personal reputation becomes increasingly indefensible.
As for quebec, it has always bargained it’s loyalty. They can be bought but as every buyer has found out, purchased loyalty is worthless. A lesson the ndp will quickly learn.
Quebec NDP is gone? Wheeeeeeeee!
When I think of all the men (some of whom were no more than boys) who battled the Nazi war machine and then people like Trudeau, I think hanging is too good for them. Say what you want about this comment but Trudeau is scum.
One day Canadians will be allowed to fully know and understand the repugnantly vile creature that fancy pants Trudeau was, and wonder why and how such a warped minded imbecilic Canada hater could ever have been elected PM. I’m too young to have ever voted against that warped little dictator, but in all the research I’ve done regarding “the great turdo” it is evident that he was elected in a vacum, using empty rhetorical slogans without Canadian citizens fully understanding who this little creep was and what he stood for. It’s been said already, and I agree that if the internet had been around in Trudipshits day, that deranged hateful “intellectual” moron would never have been elected PM.
All I have to say is Pierre Elliot Trudeau is the primary reason why I am a conservative. He hijacked the centrist Liberal party and made it into a Marxist/Socialist party.
The Phantom @ 5:18, that reminds me. We had to do brigade size exercise for Trudeau at CFB Petawawa in 1968. We were not happy as we knew he hated the military.
Dennis K nails it.
When I was employed by the yanks…one day I was told I had a higher security clearance than Trudeau….my reponse was does that mean that I tie with Breznev or Fidel?
Didn’t get an answer……
I’ll never understand how marxist turdeau got elected in this country. His commie connections were well known to my parents before he became PM. Even when I was in high school in Calgary, I was in a small minority when I voiced my thoughts on turdeau as a commie. For some strange reason women found him attractive.
For someone who hated the military, he didn’t seem to waste any time over-reacting in October 1970. His imposition of the war measures act was what started me on the road to Libertarianism so that’s one positive effect he’s had on my life. In 1970 the concept of Libertarianism didn’t exist so I initially hung out with anarchists.
There were 79 million people in Germany before WWII. A good portion of them became Nazis and influenced followers all over Europe. Tens of thousands became Canadian, some became my relatives. Yes, war does that to people. What category do they fit in?
Trudeau is dead!
Loki
Wrong..Turdough was a classic Stalinist….
Stalin made extensive use of the military to implement/enforce his policies
but didn’t like or trust the
military
…..he virtually liquidated/executed the officer corp in the 30’s….which was aegely responsible for the Red Army’s poor performance again the Finns in the Winter War and the beginning of THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR….
Immediately following the war Stalin
swiftly got rid of Zukov…fearing he had become too powerful.
Trudeau did so much harm to Canada that we are still paying for. But in the end he got his just reward-he got to bury his own son!!!
Yeah, Trudeau may be dead, but the damage he brought still remains.
As an interesting matter of historical trivia, it’s known that Richard Nixon often referred privately to PET as “that little *sshole”. I guess that sentiment is echoed by many informed, thinking Canadians today. (And wouldn’t PET have gotten along just wonderfully with Pres. Zero!)
History will never be kind to PET.
May he rot in hell.
The same will apply to O-bummer.
I honestly think PET was elected because Canadians wanted our equivalent of JFK. Does that sound to immature? The Libels have always built a cult following around their leaders. The TV culture was ideal for cranks like PET. The message could be managed.
As a side note. An old family friend told me of marching French Canadian soldiers onto troop transports in Halifax at gun point.
Can you say Powercorp. If you want to understand what happened in Canada you have to understand how Powercorp controlled all Canadian PM’s from Turdeau to Paul Martin. Paul Desmarais owned every one of them. Turdeau’s father worked for Powercorp. Trudeau worked for Powercorp, Mulroney worked for Powercorp, Chretien worked for Powercorp, and his daughter is married into the Desmarais Clan. Paul Martin worked for Powercorp. For 40 years Desmarais controlled all of the Quebec PM’s in Canada until Harper. Desmarais during all this time were sworn Privy Council members who had all the inside Government caucus secrets. Which companies would be greased, which contracts would open etc. The Powercorp clan controlled all of the Puppet PM’s from Turdeau to Martin. He also controlled Mo Strong. Start by googling Powercorp and each PM’s name. Turdeau was the most diabolical and evil PM in Canada’s history. Chretien is right up there with him. If I lived in Quebec, I would buy a little yellow dog, and each day I would take him to Turdeau’s tomb. And after he had done his business, I would take him home and feed him Alberta beef as a reward….
Trudeau was an intellectual midget who used intimidation vs intellect to counter those who stood up to him. A lot of his policies were based on falsie assumptions and lies. For example, bilingualism is based on the “fact” that Canada is a bilingual country vs a country with two languages. Please prove to me that Quebec is a bilingual province or that prior to this idiot that we were bilingual in nature. Also, Canada Day replaced Dominion Day; the former celebrates the fractured country he gave us while the latter celebrated the concept of Canada. Canada Day was passed on a late Friday evening sitting without quorum present. Sauvè was the speaker who allowed this – surprise!!
Hey, QNDPisser – Are you proud of your forbears, who were so cowardly they’d not lift a finger even to help the Mother Country?
Doubtless, had quebec been transplanted to europe in 1939, they’d welcome the nazis with open arms and flower garlands. Disgusting, but true-to-type.
If there is a hell, then PET has a great deal of work shoveling coal. The worst PM this country ever saw, and Cretin was hot on his heels. Liberal trash, both of them.
mhb23re
RFB @ 12:05
Not that you can hear me, but regardless, I’m yelling RIGHT ON!!! RIGHT ON!!! at the computer screen.
English Canada should learn and never again accept or elect a PM from Quebec. They should also understand that after Harpers majority, English Canada no longer needs Quebec to form a majority.
Mark, here’s the ‘unpretty’ truth it seems about you. If it has anti-Quebec bent you’ll publish it to the front page and watch the westward hate roll in to pat you on the back.
Meanwhile I watch the idiots dans la Belle Province point to people like you and do the same, publish stories about how les anglais just want to assimilate us all.
To me you’re both the two sides of a crooked coin.
CK, I wrote the book that was reviewed by Granatstein. I spent four years in the National Archives, but you can buy a copy of my book or borrow it from a library and use the footnotes to find the exact archival boxes and files that the censors’ records on Le Devoir, L’Action Catholique and L’Evenement Journal — along with smaller anti-participation and anti-Semitic publications are held. My work is not “anti-Quebec”. It is a simple explanation of what happened.
