A Limousine Liberal Down Under

Limousine Liberals Down Under drive on the left – both literally and philosophically. Here’s multi-millionaire actress, Cate Blanchett, insisting that her fellow Australians pay more taxes to … you know … save the world, save the children, blah, blah, blah:

The most excellent blog, Australian Climate Madness, dissects the new advertising campaign she’s participating in.
It would be most interesting to learn how many more times Ms. Blanchett has traveled on a private jet than the cumulative total of everyone who reads these words.

  1. Just announced about two hours ago by John Cummins, new leader of the BC Conservative Party: the BCC will kill the carbon tax on fuel if elected. In fact, the entire dismantling of the carbon scheme in BC is promised.

  2. Let’s look at what the Aussie government’s own climate expert has to say about carbon taxes:
TONY Abbott has leapt on a declaration by Tim Flannery – Julia Gillard’s hand-picked salesman for action on climate change – that emissions abatement is a 1000-year proposition to renew his attacks on Labor’s proposed carbon tax. …
    In the radio interview,
Professor Flannery said: “If the world as a whole cut all emissions tomorrow, the average temperature of the planet’s not going to drop for several hundred years, perhaps over 1000 years.”…
Mr Abbott quoted Professor Flannery as he ridiculed the tax as “the ultimate millenium bug”.“It will not make a difference for 1000 years,” the Opposition Leader told parliament. “So this is a government which is proposing to put at risk our manufacturing industry, to penalise struggling families, to make a tough situation worse for millions of households right around Australia. And for what? To make not a scrap of difference to the environment any time in the next 1000 years.

I am sure that Tim Flannery’s absence in the commercial to explain the looooong-term benefits of a carbon tax is merely an unfortunate oversight. How lucky for them to find a naive/hypocritical celebrity to fill in for him.

  3. Cate is a air head with acting talent … like do many of her Hollywood contemporaries. She is grossly misinformed as are most of us in the guilt-ridden western world.
The problem starts at the education industry. Children are not being taught to understand the natural sciences. They have no clue about geography, astronomy, the solar system, the size of the planet and it’s geological make-up.
Therefore they can be easily scared and duped by the witch doctors of climate change. It is no different the the clergy using the fire and brimstone of hell to scare parishioners into showing with their wallets on Sunday morning.
climate change is a religion that is more evil than the others.

  4. Good for John Cummins.
It always irks me when people who have become rich then proceed to lecture from some political platform those who made them rich on how to live their lives

  5. “It would be most interesting to learn how many more times Ms. Blanchett has traveled on a private jet than the cumulative total of everyone who reads these words.”
Not really, because that would assume this fight is about facts and logic, or that facts and logic will have any effect on the likes of Cate Blanchett. Its not, and they won’t.
The Green Movement about the unchecked growth of government regulators Steyn talks about in the Death By Strangulation thread above. Cate Blanchett is a useful idiot working for people whose -actual- aim is to expand the reach, scope and budget of the Ministry Of Making You B@std@rds Do What We Want. She’s a willing participant in the global movement toward totalitarianism, to be achieved one regulation at a time.
The USDA Rabbit Hunter thread is a classic example. USDA got a budget hike, hired more agents, and they now go around making sure stage magicians have a RABBIT LICENSE for the rodent they pull out of their hat.
That Cate Blanchett is a mindless twit who can’t connect her own air travel to proposed carbon taxes is both obvious and uninteresting.
What I’m extremely interested in is who paid for that commercial, and how I can help put them the hell out of business.

  6. I traveled on a private jet exactly once, in case anyone is keeping the cumulative total.

  7. I am amazed that membership in the actors guild turns individuals into experts in terms of environmental issues. I believe this belief comes from the guilt of the excessive millions they make and a desire to atone for the excessive lifestyles they lead. The star struct MSM gives credence to the mindless crap that these people spew. It seems the crazier their behavior the more the media gives the a voice, this has been verified by their pursuit of individuals like Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton and others.

  8. Abe Froman >
“She is grossly misinformed as are most of us in the guilt-ridden western world.”
The successful multi-millionaire actors appear to be even more guilt ridden than most. Wonder why?
It’s to bad they (the good ones) want everyone else to pay for thier guilt. They’d earn more respect, if they simply shut up and gave most of thier money away. Yea right.

  9. Sigh. Another talented actress who should stick to what she’s good at. This “pay your share” kick Cate’s on reminds me of when she played Katherine Hepburn (again, well done) in “The Aviator”. The scene I remember is when Kate’s mother proudly tells Howard Hughes, “We’re socialists”. There’s nothing more dangerous than a rich person with an overdeveloped guilt complex.

  10. Tower, it is no coincidence that such phrases as “we’re socialists” worm their way into Hollywood films..

  11. dwright
Not unless it crashed and caused the Slave Lake wildfire.
As tower notes…Lear Jet liberals with guilt complexes pose the greater threat.

  12. According to the EPA in the USA, reducing global temps will cost $700 trillion per degree. How come that isn’t mentioned???

  13. Good thing she’s a good actress, she is uglier than Courtney Love, and stupider than Sean Penn. Makes her a star like all the other moron globall warming “activists”, Oh yes these are our leaders, grow up people, this twit is just that. Couldn’t lead a girl scout cookie drive!

  14. If these ‘I’m so rich I feel guilty’ types want to relieve their wallets of the extra cash, then write the cheque! I’m sure that any tax collecting agency throughout the world would be glad to help lightened their fiscal burden and lift their sorry spirits. Quit preaching to me and other overburdened taxpayers and folks with normal lives and incomes and put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is.

  15. tower: “There’s nothing more dangerous than a rich person with an overdeveloped guilt complex.”
That’s for sure. They don’t mind the little guys being taxed to the max because they’ve paid off the mortgages on their homes, cottages, and ski chalets, they’ve got lawyers to use all the loopholes to make sure they’re not taxed to the max and they’ve lots of money in the bank. “I’m alright, Jack.”
There’s nothing worse than a silver-spoon-in-mouth limousine socialist, of which Canada has quite a few, most of them being in the Liberal Party of Canada which, thankfully, is growing smaller by the day. Now, all we have to do is contend with the same mindset in the NDP.

  16. I admire Cate Blanchett for her talent and beauty. So I am prepared to cut her a lot of slack when she goes off the rails as she has obviously done by lending her support to this campaign for carbon taxes. Celebrities should actually try to inform themselves about controversial issues before lending their prestige to fashionable causes.

  17. Things can’t be too bad in Australia if they had to import a generating plant for this ad. That plant in the background is Battersea Power Station in London, closed down 28 years ago.
It has been used in movies and TV shows as a backdrop and on the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Animals”.

  18. Don’t count on Australians to do the right thing…heck they took away all their guns. Their Prime Minister is a left wing atheist. Contrary to popular belief Australian are a bunch of left wing socialist. It must be the English/Irish connection.

  19. JMD – You wrote
“I admire Cate Blanchett for her talent and beauty. So I am prepared to cut her a lot of slack when she goes off the rails as she has obviously done by lending her support to this campaign for carbon taxes.”
So – if Blachett was ugly and had no talent you would not cut her any slack?
What a strange measuring stick you have. It is precisely because of her so-called “talent and beauty” that her comments garner any kind of attention.
If you don’t agree with the message – don’t cut her ANY slack.

  20. oh yay, another celebrity I’ve lost respect for. The number is getting quite high. Shut up and sing, act or pose. Do what you do best. Stay out of politics and stop preaching.

  21. I admire artists for the product they produce, movies, paintings, songs, music, but when they venture into the realm of politics or “the cause” ,tune them out as they have no expertise in anything, and live in a dream world the rest of us can only imagine.
We don’t tell them how to live, they should STFU about how WE live.
btw, John Cummins has no chance of political success in B.C. since he dared utter a few words questioning whether being gay is a choice or genetic. Of all B.C.’s many sacred cows, ANY statement that does less than admire gays is akin to treason,”Gayness” is the number one bovine.
The gay lobby, which gained most of it’s power through Hollywood,is probably more powerful in B.C. than anywhere else on Earth, and Cummins has dared to NOT genuflect in their direction.
Sadly, when it comes to who’s “in” in B.C.,he’s OUT!

  22. The hypocritical celebrity of the century award goes to Bono of U2.
He tries to force governments to increase taxes on its citizens for additional African aid. He’s been quoted that he will never give of his own money because he gives his time to “the cause” instead.
This coming from someone who could give every dime he has away, start over with nothing and in a month have more money than an average Canadian will earn in a lifetime.
You can only respect PM Harper when he refused to meet with this idiot a few years ago.

  23. Awww not Blanchett too! It’s sad to se another grat talent succumb to the ravages of toxic idealism. Oh well another movie bimbo on the political bucket list.

  24. Hullo Canadians.
I met a lady vet from Canada in Fiji 2008 .Sitting around a pool she mentioned this blog. She was a bit of a wag.
I got here via Legalinsurrection where I recognised the name.
    Cheers frm Australia .
Ps – Govt is a minority labor dependent on 3 independents . Every bit of legislation is a battle including carbon tax. Not sure how will turn out .
We have lots of Hollywood celebs. Cate has beautiful luminous skin .Dont know any of her other views but she is welcome to do adverts any time.

  25. Well, different bob, I am biased. I like Cate. That is why I cut her some slack even though she is wrong. Would I cut some celebrity I didn’t like the same kind of slack? Probably not because I wouldn’t care what he or she said.
Actors and actresses should stick to what they know. Fame and fortune do not make them all-wise. I dare say I know far more about the climate change issue than Cate, Leonardo di Caprio, Sean Penn and a host of other famous people. And your average consensus media dolt.
