Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Bit unfortunate that she mentioned Ducks Unlimited in this light. This terrific organization pumps, as she says, tens of millions into Canada each year for the purpose of habitat conservation specifically because a vast proportion of North America’s migratory bird population nests/breeds across the prairies and territories.
That said, kudos to her for digging into this. IMHO, there’s a helluva lot more to all this environmentalism than necessarily is apparent at first glance…and following the money trails is still the best way to shed light on it all.
I have been aware of this for some time. The information is readily available on these Foundation websites. What is not readily available is the money transfer between these foundations, the Canadian environmental NGO’s and “democracy” movements in Canada. Our last election had LeadNow encouraging young people to participate in “vote mobs” LeadNow was formed by a person involved in the environmental movement and their sister organization is MoveOn.org and Avaaz in the US. The same with VotePair.ca which has a sister organization VotePair.org in the US. These groups are trying to interfere political by sidestepping Canada’s election laws. They were trying to start an Obama type movement to elect Ignatieff or Layton.
Ezra let the girl speak. Waay too many interruptions. I would have liked to hear more from her.
Tugboat, I totally agree! Ezra tends to get waaaay ahead of himself in trying to channel conversation in a predetermined direction. He’s got to slow down and let people finish their sentences.
Springer- Ducks Unlimited has been interfering with resource development longer than almost any other environmental group. For the sake of some US bird hunters, they’ve been overpopulating Canada with ducks and geese, and creating havoc for western farmers. I once watched flocks of geese over Wainwright AB, heading out from a lake to their feeding grounds, and estimated their numbers to be tens of thousands, possibly 100 thousand. Imagine how much grain they could take if they all landed on one farmer’s field. Oil companies have been forced to limit exploration on leases they’ve paid a pretty penny to acquire. Ranchers have lost grazing acres to artificial wetlands. Thousands of people get sucked into donating money, or buying overpriced crappy artwork for decades. To state they are above criticism is naive.
coach, I agree with you as I have personally experienced the damage that geese can do to a grain field.
However, I do not think that Ducks Unlimited is in the same league as the other above mentioned organizations as Ducks Unlimited is just trying to maintain or increase game bird populations while the others are attempting to usurp Canada.
Ezra needs to learn that when interviewing someone, the point is to let THEM talk. If they get way off topic, bring them back, but give them time and let them tell their story in their way. Stop leading the witness.
Coach…
Without intention to launch into a big debate here, have to disagree! Over the decades DU has pumped literally billions into habitat reclamation and conservation across N.A., much of it in conjunction with government wildlife depts, that has benefited a lot more than migratory birds.
Certainly the bulk of their funding comes from hunters, but it has to be said that if it weren’t for the efforts and donations of hunters, nobody else would have stepped up to the plate. And for decades migratory species were under immeasurable pressure from massive loss of breeding and resting habitat along flyways throughout N.A.
Issues regarding overpopulation, primarily of Canada and Snow geese, were not caused by DU! Look to governments who have been under public pressure from anti-hunting groups and the like over the last couple decades, that interfere at every possible opportunity with regulations and management efforts. Even so, some states now are even permitting spring hunts, as well as comparably generous harvests, to try to restore balance with populations.
I assure you, nobody is more aware of the current challenges of overpopulation than is DU! The biggest threat now is that their principle breeding grounds in the Arctic are being ravaged, and thereby negatively impacting numerous other species that are not doing nearly so well.
The single greatest threat to all wildlife species is, NOT hunting, but habitat loss due to pressures inflicted by agriculture, mining, forestry, and other industrial. Were it not for the tremendous efforts of primarily hunter backed organizations such as DU and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, I assure you damn little else would ever get accomplished with regard to wildlife conservation! They do a helluva lot more good than most of these enviro/ecotard greenfreaks could even begin to wrap their pathetic little pea-brains around!
Levant needs to take some interview pointers from Brian Lilley.
Madam is correct about the political motivations behind stopping tanker traffic on the West coast: it has EVERYTHING to do with trying to affect Canadian oil.
Canadian resources are an easy target because all the eco-colonial campaigners have to do is influence politicians who ultimately control the vast publicly owned land. Red Ed ring a Bell? The people be damned.
Clayoquot sound, a forest resource which, if privately traded would be worth $300 million, was ultimately sterilized by the BC government after a mere one million from the US Pew Foundation funded the Toronto-moneyed Brats who ran the local campaign. Great leverage.
I do hope she returns. There is so much ground to cover.
I think that Canadian resources are easy target not only for US influence peddling millionaires but also for influence peddling neo-powers from Asia.
That said, Ms. Krause done great job tracing the money. I am impressed. I also wish that Ezra do not interrupts her so often.
Ezra just doesn’t disappoint. He was born to do this.
He leads the herd in sensibility, If not reason.
Nice to watch him work these crazies into a corner Reviling their multitude of cons & excitable conspiracies.
All brought by these folks for money of course.
Nice to see him shoot the nuts out of the tree’s with his slingshot mouth.
Nice to see him bring sane people on to debunk this garbage.
I think the only reason she looked into it was her anti-Americanism. If the money all came from Europe she would have let it slide. The give-away was here adulation for Dr. Fruitfly.
Sorry to disagree. I used to think DU was one of the best NFPs, but with their weak response in regards to IWTs, I’ve withdrawn my support and refuse to attend their local fundraisers until they take a firm stand against all IWT projects.
Mike T.; I don’t think she is anti American or a lefty. She is warning about an American millionaire effort to shut down our resource industries to benefit lower NA market prices. The left in B.C. are totally environmentalists. Her credits to Dr. Fruitfly are just to pre-deflect accusations of bias.
I did a post on the Tides Foundation and Vivian a few months ago but don’t know how to do a search and locate it.
Well done once again Ezra. Excellent interview.
The ‘burning question’ , that has been nagging in the back of my mind since the msm (esp. Ceebeecee) failed to cover it is : who/what started the fires in N. Alberta? No lighting to ‘blame’ at this time of year!
A few years ago the Yukon ignored the blaze that burned for 5 days, much of it in the Dawson City (Gold resource area) area. We almost allowed Dawson City to burn….but that is “Parks Canada property”, near a river…it all happened during a federal election. The press gang blamed lighting but they were wrong, there were no thunderstorms in the area, it was not lightning. Thousands and thousands of trees were burned yet a tourist who fashioned a raft from dead wood to float down to Dawson City on was fined for ‘stealing wood’; this fine was levied by a lazy Parks Canada guy who should have been fighting the fire. Nobody fought the fires. The silly servants were fining cigarette smokers too close to door jambs while the City of Whitehorse was so filled with smoke from the fires that, at times, people could not see the other side of town!! It would have been hilarious if it had not been so tragic.
TIDES is a georgie porgie project (info from Glen Beck – I never miss a show – he has connected all the dots concerning nefarious outfits hell bent for satan to steal our Liberty).
Bluenoser, What is an IWT?
Me three on the “Ezra interrupts too much” comment. It’s a useful trait when you are the interviewee, especially if the interviewer is somewhat hostile. It’s also helpful in debate.
It’s a bad habit when you are the interviewer, especially when the interviewee is well-spoken and looks like she is about to make an interesting point.
That bad habit is offset by the excellent guests and topics. Better to be good on all counts.
richfisher, It’s an industrial wind turbine.
Bluenoser, I’ll disagree with your view on DU’s indifference to industrial wind turbines. I don’t care for IWT’s either, but they are not central to DU’s mandate. From their website, it seems they are less worried about tailings ponds than wind power; as they should be.
For you pro DU guys I have a question. How does a duck know if it is landing on DU land or yours or mine?
DU is the biggest land holder in the province and I contend they are more interested in controling land than they are about duck habitat!
If they would sell off the properties they own and control and pay for installing power lines down to the river edges, install pumps and pipe, they could facilitate the filling of ponds and dugouts in the thousands.
Then I might be convinced they are who they say they are.
WalterF, Don’t misread where I’m coming from. I fully support harvesting all of our natural resources, whether it involves fracing, drilling, felling or whatever, but I am in total disagreement with allowing farcical IWTs as a source of renewable energy – hence my beef with DU.
Eco-NFPs are political lobbyists, and as such should have their charitable status removed, just as what recently happened to Greenpeace in New Zealand.
Here’s hoping this majority government will come down hard on all of them.

Very annoying. Ezra, we think you’re great but for Gods sake, let the woman speak.
Y’all may be interested to know that the Canadian Anti-Gun Industry (which is what it is) is almost entirely funded by these same foundations AND by our federal government. Federal funding has been sharply reduced since the CPC came to power, but the foundation money is still rolling in.
They’ve got enough dough they can afford to keep beating the horse after its long dead, just in case it rises from the grave and starts pulling their little red wagon again.
The Americans are our best friends. However, it is imperative that the federal CPC ensures a oil export capacity of at least 500,000 bpd on the West coast. It is assinine that Canada’s exports are restricted to one customer.
Kate, thanks very much for posting my interview. Very much appreciated. After months and months of going through all those U.S. tax returns (yawn!), I really appreciated the opportunity to be on Ezra’s show, and really appreciate that you post the interview on your blog as well. Thanks immensely!
Its very interesting to read everyone’s comments.
Both Ezra and I had problems with our ear pieces so that’s part of the reason that we kept interrupting each other so much.
I have a blog where there’s a lot more information posted – and lots to come. My blog is http://www.fair-questions.com
On Twitter, I’m at @Fairquestions
Feedback & questions always welcome!
Are you all aware that the Ontario Trillium Foundation is being used to finance wind developers and lobbyists? This is where our lottery ticket money goes to. It is supposed to be for volunteer organizations.
