Ignatieff, who had signed on to form a coalition with the NDP supported by the Bloc when then-Liberal leader Stéphane Dion had worked out an arrangement three years ago, told Mansbridge he later rejected the idea because it wasn’t in the interest of Canadians.
“I could be sitting here and talking to you as prime minister and chose not to do that because I felt that it wasn’t in the national interest,” he said. “So I rejected the coalition in 2008 and I’ve gone into this election in 2011 firmly excluding the coalition.
*So not only does he now admit that he did sign the Coalition Pact in 2008(against what Bob Rae, Repeatedly said to Adler Talk Radio, Ignatieff did not sign)
Ignatieff now states that basicaly he would have had a coup & kicked out Dion! How else could he have sat there as PM? Dion was the Liberal Leader when that Deal was put together, Was he not?

Why is this something of an anomaly to the electorate and media? Lieberals have been lieing to Canada since Pearson, Trudeau lied about the gas tax, took a country barley in debt, to 229 billion, Mulroney came in, interest shot up, our debt went to 450 billion. The proof is da proof got elected on the premise of getting rid of the GST, got in, left the GST, cancelled the EH101 choppers costing 500 million, and was quite comfortable watching soldiers die in 50 year old Sea Kings and sending them “hitchiking” into the Afgan battle with little short of targets on their backs, and there are still people dumb enough to vote liberal. I will apply for govt. grants to study this type of insanity.

I used to chuckle and dismiss Iggy as just another bumbling poindexter with a fish out of water persona when forced to relate to average people, but the more he talks foreign polict the more he gives me the creeps. He talks like some spook from the UN war dept.

Once again, if its a minority prepare yourself for coailition of losers to install PM Jack Layton, since the NDP could surpass them in seats. More importantly they could surpass them in votes.
The NDP WILL demand cabinet seats as part of their support. They would be insane not to, especially with the Liberals so weak.

The article makes it clear that Iggy feels, ex post, that he regrets the decision to support the war without UN approval. Changing your mind or admittng a mistake is not the worst quality of a politician.
What’s most illuminating in this article is the part which demonstrates a strong US commitment to avoid civilian casualties – including asking the advice of academics, journalists, etc.
The second illuminating factor is that the Bush Administration’s planners DID consider the post-war scenario, but that we were so successful, so quickly, that we were still operating under the wartime plan and hadn’t garnered the resources for post-war occupation.
Concerning Blix, it was clear that his statements regarding Iraq’s willingness to cooperate were not sincere, and that his sole motive was to delay or avoid the war. At best, he had not considered the danger of giving Saddam more time to prepare for war, or for the hazards of fighting there in the summer. At worst, he was part of the UN cover up beginning with Oil for Food and culminating in last minute defenses of indefensible propositions.
It is clear Iraq had no WMD when we went in. The real question is, “Where did it go?” Iraq did not have the capabilities to destroy so much WMD so fast. It had failed to provide UNMOVIC and UNSCOM any proof of destruction as required under UNSCRs. So there are only two possibilities: they hid them or they moved them.
The most likely place they would move them is Russia. They share a border. Russia had the means to handle, move, store, and destroy chemical and biological weapons. They also had motive: lucrative oil contracts with Saddam once sanctions were lifted.
Opponents of the war often say Saddam was “in a box.” They also claim that the casus belli – WMD – was a lie. What they fail to realize is that if Iraq had truly and irrevocably divested itself of WMD, then the proper response of the UN would be to LIFT SANCTIONS. In other words, to let him out of his box.
Although we found no WMD, it remains the case that Iraq violated the UNSCRs for 12 years, and also clear that their 2003 declaration of weapons was a 10,000 page delaying tactic with “no new information” according to UNMOVIC.
If it was Iraq’s intention to delay the war, Blix and Annan were facilitating this dictator’s preparations for war.

I have always said, ever since it was revealed that Iggy is a Harvard buddy of Barry and ever since the Count came back to Canada pretty much at the same time Soetoro was being groomed for Prez; I have been suspicious of Iggy’s true affiliations and motives for Canada.
Both these men are not to be trusted with their respective Country’s sovereignty…They are plants from the elite globalists trying to establish the UN as the world’s command center.
The election is not over…The globalists might have a nasty trick up their sleeve at the 11th hour again’st our guy Harper…Keep praying it does not happen…They will at least try to keep us in a minority position.

POWinCA: Overall you make some good observations, though it isn’t really accurate to say that WMD were not found in Iraq. Small quantities were discovered, and much larger ones in Syria; while nothing like the levels that were assumed to be there, they raised questions that few journalists seemed to be interested in following up. The suggestion that Russia was their destination is an interesting one.
Where I think you are too accommodating is on Ignatieff’s turnaround on his support for the Iraq War. It’s true that people should be able to admit mistakes without being crucified for it, but we should examine their motives for doing so. In Ignatieff’s case, his motive was political: it was absolute poison for someone aspiring to be a Liberal MP, much less the party leader, to have supported the invasion. He had to inoculate himself against that one as fast as he could.
I respected his support for the invasion and even had thought he might make a good leader of the CPC (the last five years have shown that I was delusional). His change of mind about the War was one of his worst moments.
What I find most fascinating about this story is how Canadians on the Left will react to it. Hint: They won’t. It won’t bother them one bit.
I think the #1 Lesson we’ve all learned from the first 2 years of Obama’s presidency is that:
– If a right-of-centre politician conducts military actions, even small ones, then he is: Evil / Hitler / a warmonger / the devil incarnate
– If a left-of-centre politician is involved with military actions then he is: doing no wrong / trying to find peace / forced to because of someone else’s bad decision in the past / striving for betterment in the world
The HYPOCRISY is so thick, Paul Bunyan could spread it on 2′ thick slice of bread.
So know that this latest revelation about Iggy will go nowhere and will be buried. If it had been about Harper, it would have been the death blow of his campaign with the MSM talking about nothing else until the election.
Somewhere in the background, NDP Trojan horse Bob Rae is smacking his lips.
Hang on, Rae was on SUN TV yesterday and in today’s National Post expresses the same notion as Iggy that the Canadian Constitution allows runner-up parties to govern.
Was it not Rae who recommended his old college buddy, Iggy, to lead his adopted party … without a vote, without a leadership convention?

Anybody here read Michael Figueroa’s article in the National Post last week? Figueroa is the leader of the Communist Party of Canada.
In the article, he singled out oil companies and banks as the main villains in Canada. Everybody else, of course, is oppressed.
Saw a Liberal Party ad last night on SUN TV in which the villains are the evil oil companies and banks. NDP ads espouse the same thing. If only you vote for these quasi-Commies, they’ll be your champion in fighting for you against these evil oppressors.

My take is that Iggy has landed in the wrong party.
From the time he left Canada to the time he came back, the Liberal Party had shifted hard left, thanks in no small part to the presence of his former buddy Bob Rae.
Iggy feels so uncomfortable being a spokesman for a quasi-Commie platform because his heart, as far as I can figure, is closer to the Conservative viewpoint.

It’s been said before but his motives really are that transparent: he returned to Canada because he saw an opportunity. Nothing he has said or done really indicates he has any feelings for the old place. Frankly, nothing the Liberals have done exhibit any devotion, either.

I still believe that this whole pre-election crap & the election is nothing more then a well laid out plan, With the topper yesterday Ignatieff laying the groundwork for the aftershock (with the help of Mansbridge)of this Unwanted Election.

Iggy’s recent attempt to soft-peddle the coalition idea is probably just the latest in a series of the hail-Mary stunts that the Liberals have been pulling all through this election. They’re probably borne more out of desperation than the result of some master plan. I don’t think there’s anyone left in the Liberal Party who is capable of such complex thought processes anymore. It’s a seriously broken party, and changing leaders like you would change oil in your car won’t help fix it.
I doubt that Iggy will be around long enough to head a coalition. Bob Rae will shove him out of his post after the election and then announce his intention to form a coalition. Rae’s hope will be that the Canadian public will be too averse to trudging through another election campaign and will concede the issue.
Maybe Boob Rae will use his connections to get Iggy a job in the mail room at the UN, clearing the way for the return of Canada’s prodigal son, Uncle Mo, thus heralding Atlas Shrugged, Canadianna version.
Mr. Iffy speaketh out of both sides of his mouth. That is nothing new for a Liberal though. Remember GST and Price and Wage Controls.

Thank gawd for the Senate. Today, our only saving grace is the Senate that the Dippers wish to eliminate. Once the Senate is gone, and the Progressives run the HOC; all is truly lost.
I’ve been prognosticating about this for a few years now. I believe a few things:
1) the WRA in Alberta has been patiently waiting for the Federal situation to unfold before they betray their position on Alberta’s sovereignty.
2) the Premiers of Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan have had preliminary discussions regarding “options” going forward.
3) a historic change to the Conservative party including a new leader and numerous western MPs resigning from the Federal party.
It’s going to be very close when the polls are all counted. I believe that it will likely come down to the wire, meaning west coast polls. So the question is: do the voters in Vancouver and Victoria know they’re in western Canada?
The scenario I see that realizes a Conservative majority is an apathetic turn-out from the Left. This might put us over, but I’d say this is a coin flip at best for the Conservatives.
