  1. “I’m just wondering how anyone can take seriously a new organization that actually features daily Sunshine Girls and Boys in its print editions.”
You must be more socially conservative than myself then.

  2. “I have something against the use of pinup girls (or boys) in supposedly credible ‘news’ organizations.” – Davenport
As opposed to CBC Radio’s Sook Yin Lee’s onscreen non-simulated hardcore sex, Davenport?

  3. Posted by: Davenport at April 18, 2011 4:18 PM
Yes, because CBC never used Wendy Mesley, Norma Lee McLeod, Diana Swaine etc etc for their looks in addition to talent, right?

  4. For the British Columbia lower mainland, Shaw has SUN-TV on channel 177. BUT you have to have a set-top box to receive it. Shaw wants $2.95/month to rent it. SUN-TV is free for this month, though. After that, it’ll be another $2.95 a month.

  5. Ezra Says the CRTC, in future will prob try to shut his programme down, because political correctness wont happen on his show…..Finally…..Yeah!!!!!!

  6. For all the past bluster about the lack of neutral, objective journalism in the media, it’s nice to see folks finally admitting that all they ever really wanted is biased, “personality-driven” “news” that caters to their particular ideological slants.
So much for the high road.

I seem to wind up responding to Davenport more than anyone else, so why break a pattern? First of all she’s not a troll. Trolls are the idiots who show up and say “you’re all a bunch of poopie-heads!!!” and yell a lot and contribute nothing. (Alex is under the impression that he’s not a troll which is actually kind of touching. I think he might have MPD.)
Davenport is intelligent, a fluent writer, and willing not only to engage in a discussion but indeed to bash it repeatedly into the ground until the thread disappears off the bottom of the blog. Love it or lump it, while she’s seriously wrong about pretty much everything, she’s not a troll. If we call anyone who disagrees with the general consensus a troll than how are we better than the closed-minded fools we despise?
Elsie Bennett is right, as usual; Davenport’s abandoning would be a loss.
That said, she has seriously misunderstood what I take to be the general position on Media ’round these parts; what she describes is not my position, anyway. I don’t expect journalism to be “neutral, objective”; I don’t think that’s possible, although a journalist and a network shoul aim for that in most circumstances. I wouldn’t care a d@mn about the CBC’s ridiculous bias if the CBC were privately funded. Since it is taxpayer funded it amounts to statist propaganda and I strongly object to that. I object to – I am infuriated by – smug establishment fools like Margaret bleeding Atwood attempting to have Sun TV shut down.
Of course Sun TV will be right-leaning. It will “cater” to my “particular ideological slant”, probably, more or less. Free market, all viewpoints, choose your poison and pay for your own propagannda, etc. etc. I don’t watch TV anymore and I doubt I’ll watch Sun, although I will look into subscribing to it.

  7. Can’t get Sun News (517 Shaw ON) without purchasing new receiver: cost ea. approx. $44. incl. shipping.

  8. Gellen-same here.
Vented my filthy venom upon them as I replaced our receiver less than 2 years ago. Told them Shaw communication is a contradiction in terms.
Apologies all ’round but still have to pay again.

  9. Ezra went after the CBC – He should be fired!
Ezra went after Human Rights Commissions. – He should be fired.
Ezra went after the CBC Push poll – he should be fired.
Ezra interviewed Peter Worthington – He should be fired.
Ezra said Suzuki’s won’t debate him, he should be fired.
Sun News is on the air – they should all be fired.

  10. ann @ 10:39:
“I’m just happy my tax dollars won’t be PAYING for Sun Tv’s ideological slant.”
    Yeah…me too.
And hey I bet you really hate your tax dollars paying for CBC’s idealogical slant, right?

  11. London eh??
I’m impressed! I have a UHF unidirectional antenna already installed on the roof. Just have to hook it up to the TV and hope for the best.
    Thanks guys for the info!

  12. “Of course Sun TV will be right-leaning”
    Black Mamba
They will present an overall common sense perspective; if that’s right leaning, then it’s all good.
Ezra kicked ass. Yes, he did mention that the Federal bureaucracy has kept growing under the Harper government…A fair and Balanced statement in his comment on Government expenditure.
Sounds like Ezra’s show will be a take on Glenn Beck’s at least in the teaching history/how politics/business works/reality check kinda thing…The stuff our schools don’t teach well anymore.
    Ezra’s the ‘wake up’ guy.
Overall, for what I’ve seen on their roster and how it will be presented is very promising. I think a good majority of 35 + Canucks will identify with this new source of info.
Unfortunately the old CTV news channel and CBC newsworld advertisers seem to have join the SUN too so lots of CHIP, walk in bathtubs, Acorn chair lifts and life insurance to watch…Iggy was the first to put an add: Too funny!…Your wasting your money there, Idiotieff.

  13. “Can’t get Sun News (517 Shaw ON) without purchasing new receiver: cost ea. approx. $44. incl. shipping.”
yup, same here. New dual sat dish $50 and new upgraded receiver $49. But good news is I’ll finally have HD for my HD TV for the first time though.

  14. Here on Van. Island, I’m watching Sun on Ch 177 and in the last 3/4 of an hour the Liberal ad about Stephen Harper and what he plans on doing to the medical system has been on at least every 10 minutes. I was hoping to be rid of those GD Lieberals at least on this channel. I may have to go on a rampage! (sarc). At my age (71) it’ll be slow but worth it in the long run.

  15. I clicked it on for the first time on Shaw channel 177 in Calgary and first words I hear – “reporting on wasteful spending at the CBC.” I just became a paying subscriber in the first three seconds. Go SUNTV!

  16. Same here in Alberta: I was told that the channel is on a “different frequency” than all the other channels surrounding it, and that I’ll have to get a new receiver.
This is going to seriously cut into Sun News’s viewership numbers. How many people who otherwise would have watched it are going to pony up for a new receiver just to watch one new channel?
Grrr. Thanks for the “free” roll-out, Shaw!
Arnold (7:10): networks can’t really *refuse* to carry political ads from one particular party, nor should they. How would we react if the CBC refused to allow the Conservatives to purchase ad time?

  17. EBD – “Arnold (7:10): networks can’t really *refuse* to carry political ads from one particular party, nor should they”
    Um, why not?

  18. I first thought there were audio problems in the broadcast, which turned out to be the cacophony of exploding lefty heads drowning out my TV’s speakers.

  19. Hello EBD @7:28
I do realize the networks can’t refuse to carry political ads, however the Lieberals are sure wasting their money on this Sun channel if they figure to change any minds to their way of thinking. As to the CBC,why would the Conservatives spend oodles of cash on a venue few conservatives would be watching anyway except now, when the playoffs are on.

  20. I’m seeing it here in NB (Rogers) and in Hi Def! So far it’s free. Let’s see if that lasts.

  21. They should start every night’s prime time broadcast with the national anthem video they played to launch the station.

  22. The fair and balanced thing to do would be to give Sun News Network a billion dollars a year for the next 60 years, yes?

  23. Just got a hold of Delta Cable and ordered it – it’s on 173 ($2.95). Nice lady on the line – she said she has had several orders for it.
Delta Cable 604-946-7676 (till 9 Pacific)

  24. EBD: “As opposed to CBC Radio’s Sook Yin Lee’s onscreen non-simulated hardcore sex, Davenport?”
Was Shortbus a CBC production? No. Ergo, what Sook Yin Lee does on her own time is her own business, and not relevant to the current discussion.
AtlanticJim: “Yes, because CBC never used Wendy Mesley, Norma Lee McLeod, Diana Swaine etc etc for their looks in addition to talent, right?”
Telegenic is one thing — and, rightly or wrongly, more or less a given in any visual medium — but does the CBC, or CNN, or the NYTimes, or the Wall Street Journal, or any other serious news organization, have a pinup girl as a regular feature?
    richfisher: “Mean AND ugly.”
Don’t misunderstand. My point isn’t what the Sunshine Girl feature says about the girl, it’s what it says about Sun.

  25. I am gob-smacked! My Bell TV service is carrying the Sun News Channel!!!!!!!!
    Yahoo!!!
(It would have cost me a small fortune to replace my 4 receivers to another carrier that has Sun – but I sure as hell would have done it.)

  26. Okay, Davenport. Sorry. I get it now. You’re opposed to Sun TV news personnel posing fully clothed for a photo that appears somewhere in the Sun chain, but if said Sun TV personality has hardcore sex onscreen in a non-Sun TV production, you’ll have no problem with that.
You’re really just making up your “rules” as you go along, aren’t you Davenport?

  27. Just watched 2 hours of Sun News – Awesome!
Ezra was a blast, what a great introductory to the new light at the end of Canada’s dark tunnel of liberal insanity.
This will take off – the majority of Canadians are not the Liberal Party of Canada as the lefty hacks would have people believe. Goodbye and good riddance CBC/ CTV!
Davenport, unlike your wish to force Canadians to watch your views via the CBC and no other, most here will tell you that you are free to turn off what you don’t like and watch what you do like. You should be more liberal and allow others the same option 🙂

  28. Well then, FU Shaw! Your menu lists #517, but there’s nothing there!
Not good enough that you’re already charging the max for the ‘gold’ pkg, you greedy bastards can’t even give a 30 day free preview to your loyal subscribers!
    How much is enough? FU!
    …Pardon me, I’m repeating myself.

  29. Snagglepuss: I had the same problem. When I phoned to inquire, I was told that I have to buy a new receiver, because Sun TV News is on a different “frequency” (*cough-cough*) than all the other channels.
Those dastardly, frequency-shifting bastards at Sun TV!
The good news is, the upgrade is only $20, and they ship it free of charge. Well worth it, IMO.

  30. OK EBD, I’ll follow it up.
Thirty bucks ain’t that bad, it’s just that my ass is getting very sore with this kinda stuff.
    Thanks.

  31. Snagglepuss >
I use Shaw in Alberta, my PVR is about 5 or 6 years old. No problems with the digital channel.

  32. Davenport
There is some merit to your contention about cuts in Health care by the Harris government.
Our local hospital, Woodstock General, was absolutely devastated…well at least the bureaucrats……Prior to Harris,it had a Jabba the Hut-like president and 7 vice presidents…..as a result of Harris’ budgeting, Jabba retired, and now there is 1 president and only 1 vice-president.

  33. Knight 99, Ezra Levant is always smart and funny. I hadn’t seen nor heard Theo Caldwell before. He speaks my language, and Rick Bell had me laughing. I relate to the people on SunTV News, as I do many of the journalists at the National Post. I’m impressed.

  34. I dunno Knight, I was on Star Choice (in Sask) that was taken over by Shaw.
Could it be that we’re just so accustomed to takin’ it like that, that we don’t even notice anymore?

  35. chutzpahticular >
I think allot of people are going to “relate” to Sun News, and start to realize that “it wasn’t just them” after all.
I think the lefts years of making normal Canadians (the majority) feel isolated in thier views will not bode well for them when the awakening begins.

  36. Snagglepuss >
“Could it be that we’re just so accustomed to takin’ it like that…”
I dunno, I’ve been using Shaw for Cable & Internet for at least 15 years now and they have everyone else I’ve tried beat hands down for speed, reliability and service. I just dropped Telus for their land-line phone service last year for the whole Shaw package deal and it’s every bit as good (phone), just cheaper.
I don’t care too much for all the subscription channels with Shaw if you want the extras, but the internet is probably the best I’ve seen, faaast & reliable with excellent overall service & features.

  37. Knight 99- Hmmm. I’ve been on Yourlink (internet) after poor results from Sasktel, and I’ve no complaints there. Shaw’s been good too, for TV provision…. It’s just that I hate the nickel and diming crap!

  38. Don’t misunderstand. My point isn’t what the Sunshine Girl feature says about the girl, it’s what it says about Sun.
I think it says they have realized that men like to look at a picture of a pretty girl in a bikini. Except for progressive men, of course. They don’t like that at all. Or else.

  39. Just watched four hours – Levant, Adler, Akin and Lilley. Caldwell is on now. I don’t like watching TV in general but this is riveting.

  40. randall g >
mmmm, actually Davenport is a progressive woman who just hates men. progressive “men” as you kindly call them are – safe.

  41. richfisher: “Mean AND ugly.”
“Don’t misunderstand. My point isn’t what the Sunshine Girl feature says about the girl, it’s what it says about Sun.”
    Davenport
I got it the first time, no misunderstanding.
My point is your words reflect you, you disqualify people by how they look.
You think good looking people are inferior intellectually.

  42. richfisher: “I got it the first time, no misunderstanding. My point is your words reflect you, you disqualify people by how they look.”
If that’s indeed your point, then you do misunderstand. As I wrote above, “I have no issue with Krista Erickson, either as a journalist or a person. I’m just wondering how anyone can take seriously a new organization that actually features daily Sunshine Girls and Boys in its print editions.”
EBD: “”…but if said Sun TV personality has hardcore sex onscreen in a non-Sun TV production, you’ll have no problem with that.”
That’s right, EBD. Because it’s NOT about the personality, or how good he/she is as a journalist, or what he/she chooses to do outside of his/her journalism profession. It’s about what it says about Sun Media that it thinks that a pinup feature has a place in its news publications.
