This morning’s “I kid you not” headline;
“Ex-judge Reilly learns political ropes, remains advocate for downtrodden”
Adler weighs in.
* “Fingers” Reilly footnote: This marks the first time in post-modern media history that a Womyn’s Group was not approached for comment.

I think the key thing in his example is that she’s unconscious.
That’s clearly sexual assault.
Having said that….3 years?
Um, not if it’s a first offense.
I’d go for short, sharp incarceration with detailed probation.
And I have 3 young daughters in case anyone is asking.
“Um, not if it’s a first offense.”
Who says it’s the first offence?
First time he was caught, yeah.
Is there something about ‘unconcious’ you don’t quite get?
“And I’m looking at this 20 year old, socially inept young man, and his offence is a sexual assault and it’s one that they consider a major sexual assault because it involves digital penetration.”
~Judge Reilly
You know what particular group of people is socially inept?
Sociopaths.
They’re inept because they have no empathy which helps them get the social cues that the rest of us get.
Sociopaths/psychopaths get through life by immitating normal people.
Because of their lack of empathy they are socially inept/awkward and don’t understand things like sarcasm or feigning any sort of emotion which sociopaths take for real emotions/reactions, having no real emotions themselves as a reference point.
Read Crime Library on the net.
Serial rapists/molesters are almost always sociopaths.
The true accounts of the serial predators listed on Crime Library have one thing in common, leniency when they were caught.
They know what they are doing is wrong and they do it anyway because they just don’t care.
Our jails are full of sociopaths.
Sociopathy is not curable, yet Liberals like Reilly think that they can be rehabilitated regardless of all psychiatrists(mostly liberals) saying that they can’t be cured or rehabilitated.
ricardo – it’s not about his “personal beliefs”. The man was a judge, is now a potential legislator.
Actually, even I think 3 years is a bit harsh, but the only reason the girl didn’t say “no” is because she was, you know, unconcious. Unless you think that setting foot in a house where more than three people are congregating and alcohol is being served (whaddaya, Mormon?) is an invitation to a free-for-all, that was sexual assault.
“The Downtrodden” could mean “poor innocent young oppressed female assault victims”, and then again it might mean “uneducated (what, we don’t have mandatory schooling?), socially awkward young men (of what race, may I wonder)”. Leftism is about which victim card trumps which.
When will we be able to elect and review the judges who preside over cases like these?
Actually, Oz, sociopaths are freakishly socially, um – ept? You know what I mean. Because they’re like robots who can’t feel their way into anything but memorize social codes.
But we’re basically very much on the same page on this one.
Actually, even I think 3 years is a bit harsh…
You do realize that the way our system works that whatever the sentence is the convict will only serve half of it or less unless there public outrage over it, right?
Parole boards exist for the exact reason of releasing convicts before they have served out their sentence.
Also, you may have heard of the sentence 2years less a day?
That’s because if the sentence is less than 2 years the convict serves in a provincial lockup but if they get 2 or more years it’s Club Fed, which is easier time.
Even if they only serve 1 1/2 years they get the cushier Federal facility because the sentence was 2 years or greater.
I’d go for short, sharp incarceration with detailed probation.
I’d go for a damn good whipping. And training for the female in personal responsibility.
Nations have a responsibility to keep their faculties about them so as to be able to defend themselves, and so do people.
Self-induced weakness invites attack. Invite attack and you become partially responsible for that attack. There will always be those who will take advantage of weakness.
Although, I doubt that’s what the judge had in mind.
Was this girl Indian? I wouldn’t doubt it, I’ve said that Indian Women are not equal under the law in Canada many times.
And please, don’t get me started on how little I care what the demographic make-up of the penitentiary is.
I dearly hope Canadians are paying attention. IMO this is THE election issue! I’m with Chuck Adler.
“Basically Reilly is comparing a break and enter to a robbery with violence….not a valid anology.”
I gotta disagree with you Sasq, Break & Enter is still Break & Enter even if the door is not locked. The act of sticking something up anyone’s hole without prior consent is violent. Period.
This isn’t a case where splitting hairs is appropriate. Penetration = Rape. JMO
Indy – “I’ve said that Indian Women are not equal under the law in Canada many times.”
I don’t doubt it. But only because Indian men aren’t.
“You pass out after drinking too much and wake up to find one of your “buddies” getting frisky with you while you were unconscious. Would you feel that is not that serious…”
This happened to my daughter – drank too much, got violently ill and incoherent, was dressed and put to ‘bed’ on the floor of an upstairs bedroom and promptly passed out. The bedroom was later entered by another drunken young woman and an underage drunken male ‘friend’. The ‘friend’, feeling amorous, had no luck with with his escort so decided to make the best of it with my daughter. My daughter regained consciousness periodically during the assault but was in a black out state (thought she was dreaming), and powerless.
The girl, the hostess and a few others knew very well that she was incapacitated beyond the ability to give consent. They told me so. They were also well aware that the young man involved knew what he had done to my daughter was wrong and serious. They, however did not want to see him, or themselves, get into trouble.
It was reported to police but nothing came of it except pain and humiliation for my daughter. She is in counseling and has struggled to regain her self-respect and confidence. She has lost friends and the event has destroyed some important social relationships. People who should have stood by her, been honest, and shown a sense of responsibility for their part in it, ran for the hills once the police became involved.
The young man involved was ‘cautioned’ by the police investigator. As the officer told me, “He’s a good kid”. The ‘good kid’ is heavily involved with drugs (publicly displayed on his FB account, complete with anecdotes and bong shots, and Formspring pages) and has since shown his colours in other destructive/anti-social events where his public behaviour resulted in school suspensions. Indeed, according to his public pronouncements on the social networking sites, he seems to take some pride in being a drug enhanced (a la Timothy Leary) renegade.
You have no idea the anger I feel in reading and writing this. My daughter did the right thing by reporting the assault. She was not seeking revenge but wanted to gain a sense of justice in knowing that the young man (and others involved) clearly recognized that what he had done was wrong and that he be more closely monitored by his parents and other authorities as she (we) believe he is very troubled and needs intensive psychological help. We did not want to see him incarcerated. Nor, however, did we want to see him get off without some recognized consequences.
After our experience, I’m surprised the case this former judge cites even made it to that level. They must grow police differently in Alberta. Our men in blue chalked it up to typical drunken teenage misbehaviour.
As a result, I’ve lost all respect I ever had for police. I’ve lost my belief in the essential ‘goodness’ of human beings. I try not to show this to my daughter, as she is too young to become so hard and cynical. She has, however, learned a very tough lesson and I can only hope that in learning it, it will make her more resilient and competent in handling what life has in store.
Yup, a good horse whipping comes to mind. Changes behaviour real quick.
“Essential goodness”? Are you kidding? Everyone is capable of evil acts, not one person can be called good.
Hopefully, your daughter makes a full recovery and does not let this one horrible event dominate her future. No one should be expected to protect themselves from a deviant that sees unconsciousness as a sexual opportunity. No other crime would be excused or rationalized on that basis. In fact, attacking a person who is sleeping is even more cowardly because your victim is completely powerless and has no opportunity to fight back, so I don’t buy the “It’s non-violent crime” nonsense. Any legal system that ignores such a crime is just as morally twisted as the pervert.
Thanks, LC. The system is very twisted.
There is so much more to this story – confirmation that the young man was already troubled (in counseling and involved with drugs, reported behaviour changes by peers) and that he had been questioned on his Formspring account about some alleged violence with a previous girlfriend – subsequently demonstrated (one of the incidences that led to school suspension).
Frankly, given his age, he should not have even been allowed to attend the party. But . . . it is what it is.
Fiddle, maybe you are right. We are all capable of evil. It is just that, in the past, I believed that most people, most often, would choose to do ‘good’.
If this were to happen again, I would show no mercy. I would insist on a female police officer as investigator and when asked what we would like to see as the outcome, I’d say, “Hang ’em high”.
“I’ve lost my belief in the essential ‘goodness’ of human beings.”
People who believe in evolution don’t believe in the ‘goodness’ of human beings(force, survival of the fittest ad nauseum) and Christians believe in the ‘fallen state’ of mankind and are thus in need of redemption individually.
Where did you acquire this silly idea that human beings were essentially good?
Did you think we need goverenment and courts of law because people were essentially good?
“We did not want to see him incarcerated. Nor, however, did we want to see him get off without some recognized consequences.”
Not incarcerated?
You’re selfish.
What about your own duty to society?
His next assault and the assaults of those whom he influences are on your head.
No Oz, his next assault and those whom he influences are not on our heads. They are on the heads of those who chose not to recognize this as a serious event and support my daughter in her efforts to report it as such – the police, the hostesses, and the parents (property owners) of those hostesses.
Neither my daughter, nor I are selfish. Selfless (and stupid), at the time, perhaps but as I said, were I to ever to encounter this kind of situation again, my experience has taught me that no mercy should be shown. I would not rely on police. I would hire a lawyer to represent both criminal and civil proceedings and I’d proceed to sue the asses off everybody involved.
Honestly, Oz, unless you have had this experience, you are in no position to judge. I (we) felt a duty to society, thus the report and the honest belief that something would be done about the perpetrator. It wasn’t and we feel completely let down by the justice system.
Though, perhaps you have and you can describe how you handled it, how you succeeded to find justice and and thus how others can benefit from your expertise.
‘These criminal loving Judges where well weaned by this attitude. No wonder tier minds have become mush. Trudeau killed our Justice system. Communists love criminals. The Soviets use them s Guard in the Gulags. Thinking them more worthy than people who wanted political rights. To the Socialist its the middle class that should be in jail.’
Exactly, Revnant Dream. Lenin’s ‘useful idiots’ are incoherent, irrelevant and suicidal. They dumped all decent values at the door when they entered the dark underworld of Communism. Communism is an unacceptable doctrine to civilized people so the World gument thugs must set the dogs of war loose on the people to outrage, divide and conquer. As Revnent Dream has said above; it is a means to a bloody end resulting in absolute control. The msm is a useful tool and they are co-operating in a high pitched hyperventilate pitch during this election. This Rielly character is a worthless fool, he does not have a hope in hell of winning in Wildrose. The stalwart people in Wildrose have been represented by the most honorable of men for decades; Mr Myron Thompson won in landslides year after year; and the present CPC M.P. is just as popular. Liberals know this – the former judge is a throw away candidate sooo what is the motivation for keeping him?. Wildrose is the name of the new Wildrose Party in Alberta. What better way to smear a brand name and the people of the riding of Wildrose? Subtle but effective in places that don’t know this area. The msm wants Canadians to ask this question: ‘What kind of people would elect a trash bag like this to run as a candidate in a federal election?’ Msm won’t mention the party or the fact that there are only about 10 breathing Liberano/Dippers in the entire riding.
The Troika will sink to any level and this is just one in a series of filth, IMO.
Thanks for the excellent link Revnant Dream.
Recall the late Les Bewley a judge in B.C., stating from the bench that he didn’t think most women got any brains until they turned 30, and on another matter, that he couldn’t understand all the recent fascination with hairy buttocks.
Must say I agree with him on at least one of those points!
Revnant Dream @ 4:12, this is exactly what took place.
Revnant Dream @ 4:12, this is exactly what took place.
I recall the late Les Bewley, a judge in B.C. saying from the bench that he thought few women got any brains before the age of thirty. On another occasion that he couldn’t understand the modern fascination with hairy buttocks!
I could agree with him on at least one of the above.
oops, either the internet’s slow or I am, probably me.
Anon for this @10:05 – “Neither my daughter, nor I are selfish. Selfless (and stupid), at the time, perhaps but as I said, were I to ever to encounter this kind of situation again, my experience has taught me that no mercy should be shown. I would not rely on police. I would hire a lawyer to represent both criminal and civil proceedings and I’d proceed to sue the asses off everybody involved.”
I hate to say it, but yes, I agree completely. If they fear you then you will probably get results. Otherwise, only if you’re lucky. We live in a cynical world.
Lefties protect Lefties
Liberal candidate John Reilly made some very stupid comments on sexual molestation and demeaning of women. It was bad enough, that his own leader Ignatieff, said he was “disgusted” and that Reilly’s ” remarks are utterly, totally unacceptable. We find them in fact, disgraceful. That remark was simply unacceptable and he knows that.”
We get it, that the remarks were not defended by anyone, but where was the condemnation in the media. In trying to explain the paradox, someone put it best, and put things in context, and draws our attention to this inconsistency, when they said
“This marks the first time in post-modern media history that a Women’s Group was not approached for comment.”
In other words where were all the Lefties of the Liberal media who would blow up this story and make a serious condemnation, if and only if, a Liberal was not involved – they are strangely silent, and not running to all the women’s organizations of every description, and prodding them for a quote and a story. It also begs the question, why are some of the Women’s groups strangely silent themselves as well – many of those lefty organizations usually are well able to search out the press on their own volition. They couldn’t be bothered to raise a finger or their voice when a known Liberal is the culprit.
This judge really is representative of Liberal views on justice. Nobody really got hurt, she was asking for it, extenuating circumstances, blah blah blah…
No mention that the sneaky assault by lying in wait until the target is incapacitated is morally -more- reprehensible than just taking by force what you want. Jackal vs. wolf. Both predators, both needing to be put down.
Had the girl woken up in the middle of the proceedings and broken the perp’s skull with a beer bottle, stuck him with a knife or [gasp!] SHOT him, this same judge would no doubt treat her actions as attempted murder, not self defense.
Because Liberals basically identify with criminals. They both steal for a living.
@ Oz: I did give my head a shake, and all I saw were the ranks of guys burned by vengeful wanna-be girlfriends. As I said before, we don’t know all the facts here. There is such a fine line between consentual and non-consentual. The story says her boyfriend passed out, I assume somewhere other than a bed, and the girl went to bed, naked. Maybe she was hoping the accused would follow her, as her boyfriend obviously couldn’t, and dropped a hint to the guy? We don’t know that she didn’t, or maybe it was just a wrong signal being sent, or maybe it wasn’t! I could easily see her telling this guy she was going to bed, to sleep naked. So, after a minute of bringing up his courage (the boyfriend, remember?) he goes to her room, thinks she’s faking sleep, and proceeds. She wakes up, changes her mind about his prospects with her, and viola! Instant sex offender! I personally know 2 guys that versions of this story has happened to, and their lives are ruined because of the shallowness of a girl that changes her mind about the guy she has been leading on all night! When I read this story, I thought about how I’ve heard this one before. And, no, I don’t believe the girl is always right, just because she’s a girl. Some of them are downright evil and aren’t happy if they aren’t ruining some guys’ life!
Pure fantasy, Big Cee.
We have to go on the facts as presented, not make them up to suit our fancy.
The guy was convicted, there was no, “She was sending me signals of consent” in jex-udge Reilly’s account at all.
Big Cee,
A lot of the media reports are obfuscating the facts in the case Reilly referenced. For one, the offender WAS NOT the victim’s boyfriend, he was a party guest. The boyfriend passed out, and that’s when this creep saw his opportunity to go upstairs and have his way with the women.
Media is also not reporting (with a few exceptions) that this is a deeply held view of Reilly’s . He once sentenced a guidance counsellor who molested three students to a 90 day conditional sentence with no jail.
