Here’s my analysis of this election (so far) and the effectiveness of the petty “gotcha” one-ups-man-ship.
From the Conservative’s perspective, I don’t believe the voters they are trying to sway will be making their decision based on social justice nor contempt type issues. They are depending on a good turn-out from their base, and they are strictly focused on potential new Conservative voters. The target audience for the Conservatives are taxpaying middle class people concerned about Canada’s economic picture. Furthermore, these people have a better understanding than most how Canada is effected by the world’s greater economy. The Conservatives are hoping that a strong economic message and PMSH’s statesmanship and foreign policy experience is enough to sway those voters. People concerned about these things will likely not be swayed by all of this stone-throwing.
The Liberals on the other hand are focused on getting what they perceive as “the base” out. Their main strategy is to demonstrated those things that Liberal voters will despise about PMSH and the Conservatives; in other words, trying to paint them as the stereotypical conservative Neanderthals. Also, the Liberals wish to scoop as many NDP seats as possible by claiming they’re the Progressive option.
The Liberals don’t have a strategy to win a majority of seats, nor to take any support from the Conservatives. Without Conservative seats there is no Liberal majority, and the Liberal’s move to the Left has quashed that. The gamble, or miscalculation (I suspect) is that there IS a “base” to motivate who’s, an apathetic “base” that’s sat-out the last few elections. I’d suggest that many Liberal voters have already moved to the Conservatives, and those apathetic voters might very well come-out on behalf of the Conservatives. Why? Because all that has dragged those from apathy will not be solved with another Conservative minority, nor a Coalition of Losers.
I guess time will tell.
Will Ignatieff challenge Bloc in Parliament?
If Canadians don’t get a majority Conservative government to give parliament stability, and not elections every 2 years, not to mention, no end of squabbling and juvenile behaviour in the House, we just got a preview from Ignatieff himself, in his own words, what we can expect from a coalition.
Igantieff could not survive without the 50 plus seats of the Quebec Bloc, because his numbers just don’t add up, but he has started his scrap with the Bloc already when Ignatieff told Canadians on Wednesday
“I will fight the separatists. I will oppose the separatists. In every meeting in Quebec, I will stand for Canada against the separatists,”
It is not only important, but it is fair to ask Ignatieff if this fight will also happen in Canada’s parliament, where it should occur, because Canada’s future is at stake? Wasn’t that question important enough for the media to ask Ignatief, in this election? Can Canadians believe Ignatieff, or is his desperate quest for power most important to him, and we can expect a change of heart, as he cradles Duceppe and the BLoc to his bosom to retain power? Has he spoke with a forked tongue before ? Has he waffled on the issues before?

My wife has the local CBC on the clock radio and it comes on evry morning much to my chagrin. For the last 5 days, the CBC national news has lead with an anti-harper news item that is not really news, and more akin to gossip and slander than anything I would consider news worthy. The thought that the first thing many Canadians hear when the wake up is some asshat Torontonian’s anti- Harper “gotcha” story sends me into fits of curses is infuriating. Lord! but I loath the CBC and all reporters.
As an aside I was also informed this morning by some male reporter, voice cracking with puberty, that Hamilton is a place inside that critical region next to Toronto… really? I thought it was its own city!
Yes the CBC sucks up 1.3 Billion in scarce tax dollars. But here is the real HOOK. Democracy In Canuckistan. The Taxpayer still has to also support CBC and CTV via the CRTC rules. If you want TV in Canada you will take these festering pus dripping channels all bundled up with whatever else you watch. Because as a Canadian you are not adult enough to make your own programming choices, and the homosexual tv and the Multicult channels must be supported as well. On top of that coiler is the fact that you are forced to pay $2/vote cast for all the other parties you don’t like and don’t support. Think of it kinda like forced Union Dues for Political Parties.
