Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Dennis K. at 7:26 PM, yes, I’m a born and bred flatlander. I have a vague memory of there being a Liberal Party some five or so decades ago.
Rick Mercer set the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper up before with the help of Garth Turner
anyone remember “DUDE” should have been Rick the DUD
I never trust a LIAR
Rick would set Prime Minister Harper up for sure
Don’t trust RICK MERCER
fh
Oh, and I wish I lived in Ralphie’s riding. I’d love to take part in the great rout.
Rick Mercer slimed Stockwell Day with his little send-up poll: how many think Stockwell should change his first name to Doris? The poll was used to highlight the alleged extreme nature of Stockwell Day’s homophobia. Stockwell was against giving homosexual marriage the same standing as traditional marriage.
It’s a Hail Mary play. If Iggy can get the Prime Minister onto the comedy show, he elevates his own status and lowers the PM. If (perish the thought) he should win the debate, he might just sway a substantial portion of the University crowd and then we have what we had with Obama, Mubarik and in Tunisia; students get it going, special interests take over from there.
It’s a bad idea to have such a debate, no matter how much Iggy, Mercer, the CBC, the Globe and Mail and the Red Star want it. It’s a lose, lose for the PM.
Doris Day was a homosexual?
Yesterday in London Iggy mentioned that he looked after his mom when she had Alsheimers.
Doesn’t he know about the internet?
http://thealbertaardvark.blogspot.com/2010/10/new-low-ignatieff-again-uses-his.html
“Get out your magnifying glasses, ladies.”
Aw, geez Louise, now I gotta bleach my eyes and my brain. Ewwwww!
Rick Mercer and Michael Ignatieff debating on CBC? Anyone chance a guess on how few viewers?
Does anyone care?
I would love to see Mr. Harper mop up the floor with Mr. Ignatieff.
bluetech: “Yesterday in London Iggy mentioned that he looked after his mom when she had Alsheimers.”
Give him a break. He is trying to make sure that people like his brother, Andrew, get paid for stuff he is really, really, concerned about (almost) … using OPM of course.
Just another thing Iggy didn’t experience, but feels guilty about.
Blueardvaark,
Yup thats the article that I was thinking about. Harper cant mention it, nor can anyone with official position with the party, but it is absolutely relevant.
But will our friends in the media have been treating Iggy rather lightly, do they start to get a little more scrutinizing.
I pick the chicken to make the least number of gaffes.

I don’t know if you have been under a rock for the past week and just recently emerged, and read the Liberal propaganda, of a two man debate between the leaders of the next government of Canada, which most Canadians will agree, will be either Stephen Harper or the Leader of the Coalition. Contrary to Iggy’s best hopes and Liberal dreams, the leader of the coalition, by popular and democratic support
(which Iggy is so supportive of) by a long shot of (59% to 27%) is Jack Layton. I am sure you will have the total support of Layton and how could the professor, who in this campaign has professed his deep and sincere interests in democracy, not support Layton as the democratic choice as leader of the Opposition in this historic debate.
I think you are on the right track, and if there is to be a two man debate, let’s be sure it is between Jack Layton Coalition leader and Stephen Harper Prime Minister.
Makes sense to me.
Cheers
Now it turns out Ignatieff is out on his ear in a two leader debate. We learned today that if there is a coalition on the left, people want Jack Layton to be the leader by a long shot ( 59% to 27%), and not Count Iggy . So if consortium of broadcasters arrange the two leader debate, it will be Layton versus Harper – what a turn of events – but that is democracy that Ignatieff believes in and defends.
OTTAWA — If Canadians find themselves being governed by a Liberal-NDP-Bloc Québécois coalition following the May election, they want to see the NDP’s Jack Layton become prime minister, results of an exclusive poll for Postmedia News and Global National released Friday suggest.
Only 27 per cent of the poll’s respondents said they’d want Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff to be top dog, compared with 14 per cent who support Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe and 59 per cent who said Layton.

“Doris Day was a homosexual?”
I suppose all those movies she made with Rock Hudson had an effect.
Breaks MY heart, when I was 12 I thought Doris was pretty hot!
“Doris Day was a homosexual?”
no. but Mercer is
With all of 8% of Canadians watching CBC I’m sure the debate would have wide ranging appeal.
In keeping with Mercer – maybe he and Ignatieff would debate each other while PMSH goes about his busy and pertinent schedule.
cal2, I guess straight answers will not be approved.
Is Iggy going to debate in the nude a la Rae’s plunge with Mercer?
Hmmmm :), I still think Doris is pretty hot… that leaves me out on a limb as to why the petition to get Day to change his first name to Doris was about his views on gays but that was the first campaign I can actually remember so it’s not like I remember much.
Anyhow I like Mercer particularly in that he shoots at all targets on his show anytime I’ve watched it even though I’ve seen him say things that had no basis whatever because he needed to have some target for the rant.
Doris Day is heterosexual, has been married 4 times, and despite being an animal rights activist is a Republican.
Just to set the record straight.
I forgot to add that she’s still alive.
Look for a debate on the lineup opening night on SunTV, April 18th.
It will get worse rather than better
If memory serves correctly, Mercer spearheaded the campaign to mock the Conservatives attempt to have plebiscites of national interest for the citizenry in favor of the status quo where government (whipped members thereof, naturally) knows best.
Respect for democracy indeed.
Relax folks. We are witnessing the end of the big red machine and their influence over our lives. Liberal spokeswomen like mercer can blab on all they want….it’s over for them. Interesting times await.
Keep a good thought, abtrapper.
sorry…i don’t find campy mugging comedians with lightweight insights (lousy writers) into things Canadian the least amusing….
i’d have some respect for the silly girly guy if he tackled important stuff…like jihad mebbe…or illegal immigration….stuff like that have to have some yuks in them…
btw he reeks of being a CBC employee…am i right ?
I think the PM should go for it. I’m absolutely sure RM will be a balanced moderator. If there’s an objection to him then no problem, Heather Mallick is available.
Maybe RM should go skinny dipping with MI, though that would upset BR.
Ignatieff announced “Family Pack” AKA the Family Shift, where the Grits shift money from families that don’t vote for them and give it to families who do vote for them. We all, however, get the tax hangover.
Financed by rolling back (not increasing) corporate taxes and, yes they said this, cancelling the F35. I guess they couldn’t squeeze enough money out of small businesses (sorry, large, riiiich corporations) to pay for their shift, er pack.
Definitely big savings available cutting the F35 right now, given we’re presently drawing more benefit than expenditure (no, wait) Most luckily for the Grits is that there’s not cost whatsoever on the corporate side of the ledger, the money just magically disappears and isn’t needed because they’re riiiich corporations.
That’s worth the Government of Canada reneging on in place fiscal policies and international agreements, right?
Of, course, it’s necessary to get rid of SH, who doesn’t know anything about democracy. Vote Michael Ignatieff, let him choose your Canada.
btw i’ve forgotten how many seats the alms seeking Bloc has outside of their Quebec playpen…..anyone know?
ZERO you say!!!…oh dear…serpently makes one wonder why THEY are included in any election debate don’t it?…especially when one considers their avowed policy is to liberate their province from their evil TROC overlords..
the Bloc has as much relevance to the disinterested stewardship and policy making of any responsible government in Canada as my cat…
and i don’t have a cat…
The lib/left opposition to a mild liberal like Harper is getting desparate.
Rick Mercer,OK, for the first debate.
As long as Don Cherry can moderate the 2nd.
Harper though is running a bad campaign. He should be serving meat, not tea cakes.
Why not have SUN tv hold the debate on their debut night – Apr 18 is it? I’m sure they could find a suitable moderator?
