  1. I was just posting a comment on CBC.Ca. The headline read-“Harper Goes East Plugging Free trade.” My comment stated that I didn’t enjoy our PM bewing likened to a used car salesman “plugging” a spot on the 6:00 PM weather. The headline was changes shortly afterwards. (For whatever reason.)
Since WWII the CBC has been the free advertising machine for the Liberals. Is it ethical that my tax dollars are used to promote Michael Ingatieff or better yet SPONSORSHIP??
On the lighter side, if I posted my comment at 10:00 AM CST, it should be marked as 12:00 noon Eastern Time. CBC.Ca however marks my comment as having been posted at 8:00 AM ET. Go figure that eh?? The eastern genius at work!!

  2. Good news for Harper. Many voters employ the following algorithm:
    If (economy doing well)
    { Vote for governing party; }
    else
    { Vote for opposition; }

  3. Yeah, economy continues to do well in this economic uncertainty, therefore the opposition coalition decided it’s necessary to spend millions on an election for one reason, a chance to grab power.
If the voters don’t send them a definitive message, by electing a Conservative majority, we’ll be headed for turmoil.

  4. Superb economic results for Canada – this is the story? Nope. It’s all about whether Lizzie May will be able to add her fractious voice to the debates that nobody cares about 5 minutes after they’re over.
    Bravo MSM, Bravo!!! 🙁

  5. The election will help the unemplyment rate in May too. Too bad we had to spend $300M we don’t have. Maybe we will have a majority govenment and then the money will be well spent.

  6. The economy’s great, a majority is in sight and seat redistribution is just around the corner.
Now, if only the snow would melt …

  7. Liberal Media treating Conservative voters with utter contempt, CTV and CBC banned in my house hence forth. They can’t even show a modicum of respect but lots of smears, sneers and contemptuous lip curls.

  8. Now, if only the snow would melt …
    ~set you free
It’s melting fast where I am because it’s raining.

  9. PM Harper is out east today.
    Evening Telegram Headline
    “Harper stalls on Lower Churchill”
PM Harper was in Halifax and didn’t announce the loan guarantee for Lower Churchill. Said more discussion is needed.
He will be in St. Johns shortly.
    CPC candidates so far:
Trevor Taylor has previously served in the Danny Williams’ provincial cabinet as minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, and Transportation and Works. He will be running in the district of Humber St-Barbe, a Liberal stronghold currently held by Gerry Byrne and goes all the way back to Brian Tobin. Humber was Danny Williams’ provincial riding and St. Barbe extends up the northern peninsula which was Taylor’s provincial riding area. He’s a local and well known. He will wipe the floor with Gerry. CPC 1/7
    Loyola Sullivan & Fabian Manning
There’s two people who understand the equalization formula, the one who invented the scheme and Loyola Sullivan. Danny Williams’ finance minister and negotiator of the Atlantic Accord witht the Martin Libs. Been serving as fisheries ambassador since leaving the Williams Govt before the ABC campaign. He’s as blue as they come. He will win a seat in the St. John’s area. The local PC ridings (Norm Doyle, Loyola Hearn areas) have a significant army of PC volunteers. Loyola will be taking on Lib incumbent and political hoe-oar Siobahn Coady. Hearn won the 2006 election with 45% of the vote against Coady only to see the ABC campaign whittle it down to a measley 12%. Those were provincial PC’ers voting against the CPC. Manning defied Williams , left provincially, won federally and then bore the brunt of the ABC campaign as the only CPC incumbent to run again. After losing to LPC Scott Andrews he was appointed to the senate by PM Harper. He has resigned his senate position and is running again. Say what you want about Manning but he is a tireless worker for his constituents, took the onslaught on the chin as he stood up to the bully and has a very thick skin. He is not ideaologically driven and he has won the respect of many of his previous constituents for continuing to represent them while in the senate. The media and unions hate him, they will attack him over and over but he’ll win his seat back.
    CPC 3/7
    John Ottenheimer
    Random-Burin-St.Georges (My old stompin ground)
In an interview, Ottenheimer credited Dunderdale with bringing the federal Conservatives and the provincial Progressive Conservatives closer together, and with fostering a climate that is seeing more Tories return to campaign offices.
Former Health Minister for Danny. Riding currently held by Judy Foote, been LPC for 47 out of 62 years. Joe Price, Mulrooney days, and Bill Matthews who was re-elected under Kim Campbell and switched to the Libs in 94-95. We’ve had notable MP’s like LPC Roger Simmons who was convicted of tax evasion, lost his seat, re-won it and then was given an ambassador-type position in Seattle from his good buddy Chretien. Greasiest individual I ever meet, guy reeked of used car salesman schtick. 2 key areas of platform for this riding are the Marystown shipyard and Marine Atlantic ferry terminal in Port-aux-Basques. CPC has upgraded the MAI fleet and invested millions into the service in infrastructure, fleet, and pension liability for the federal crown workers. The shipbuilding contract for frigates, coast guard and supply maintenance for CF Navy is being tendered on by the Marystown shipyard. They were on the short list for the last tender and the bid was removed by the feds.
    CPC 4/7
    Labrador
Was only blue from 1968-1972. CPC candidate is Peter Penashue. Currently held by Lib Todd Russell. Last election the CPC garnered 8% of the vote here. In 2006 they hit 40% losing to Russell by 10%. Mr. Penashue was elected to the position of Deputy Grand Chief of the Innu Nation in Sheshatshiu in 2007 and stood down on March 9, 2010 despite his term running until September of that year. Mr. Penashue served as president of Labrador Innu Nation for 12 years and was the driving force behind the negotiation of the impacts-benefit agreement between the Innu Nation and the Voisey’s Bay Nickel Company. He also had his bouts with Danny over Lower Churchill benefits. This will be a hotly contested battle between the Metis tribe Russell and the Innu clan Penashue. I’m grabbing my 410 and getting the seal jerky out for this one. It will be closer than most think.
    CPC 4.5/7
The other 2 ridings are held by former weather person and gun registry flipper Scott Simms and NDP’er Jack Harris. Because Hynes is running again for the CPC against Simms, he was the token ABC lamb in this district last time, I believe their internal riding polling data shows this district unwinnable. Jack should win his seat back again in the St. John’s area for the NDP as the media and artsy fartsy MUN types will be enough, but not without the wailing and gnashing of teeth, to get him re-elected.
So it would seem to me that a deal is done on Lower Churchill loan gaurantee as the quality of CPC candidates, Manning, Sullivan, Ottenheimer, Taylor and Penashue shows they are serious in getting MPs elected in NL. The media will be all over those CPC candidates and it will be fun to watch.
Prediction 4/7 seats with a 50-50 chance of 5/7 seats in NL for the CPC.

  10. Haha, just in time. Thanks Gilles!

“He clearly wants to get some votes in Newfoundland,” Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe charged. “You’ll remember the last election, he was in a fight with [former premier] Danny Williams. He wants to regain the hearts of Newfoundlanders with Quebeckers’ money.”
The Conservatives hope to pick up at least three – if not more – of Newfoundland and Labrador’s seven seats after coming up empty in the face of Mr. Williams’s angry onslaught two and a half years ago.
Mr. Harper talked up the project, saying it would be key for the region.
The Tory Leader suggested that that more negotiations are needed before everything is ready to proceed. “In terms of specifics those things still have to be discussed. There’s a lot of discussion yet to go. But I think the opportunities of the project for this country are evident,” he said.

  11. Layton is in Quebec today bashing the oilsands, guess he figures that lone NDP seat in AB is lost and he needs to make it up somewhere else. Imagine, Quebeckers sending $75 per person to Alberta to subsidize the oilsands. We are still $7925 per person short of what we send them every year from these parts in EQ payments. No worries Jack!
“Under Stephen Harper, every single Quebecker is sending roughly $75 a year to subsidize dirty fossil fuel producers,” Mr. Layton said at Insertech Angus, a company that trains underemployed young people to rebuild computers from cast-off parts.
“The result of this subsidy is an increase in the greenhouse gases pumped out in Canada and a competitive disadvantage for businesses looking to build clean solutions and the new energy economy,” Mr. Layton said.
The subsidies lower the cost of production and boost profits for the fuel industry but puts green energy projects at a disadvantage, he said.

  12. “The result of this subsidy is an increase in the greenhouse gases pumped out in Canada and a competitive disadvantage for businesses looking to build clean solutions and the new energy economy,” Mr. Layton said.
Hahaha. If this innumerate numbskull wants to play hardball, let’s play hardball. No “subsidies” for any energy project. Say goodbye to every last one of your Green Welfare programs, Jack.

  13. And waterhouse, check with any power station operator or the fieldmen of your power company and see how much they like “green” energy. Green energy is just as effective as a limp dick, windmills usually generate their miniscule amount of power when least needed, they kill birds and clutter up the landscape while their power spikes, blow every computer stove dryer coffee maker and whatever else electronic you have on a rural service. Layton is so dull, we are supporting the welfare bum called Quebec with oil money from Alberta. The only contest Toronto boy Layton will ever win, will be a communist look-alike pagent.

  14. Every federal election over the past 4 rounds has had an initial ephoria of potential CPC majority. Inevitably the media goes into convulsions and the fear mongoring kicks in 24/7. What was it last time? The Quebec cultural community was threaten with a lost of federal funding and the entire ‘taker’ community flipped out. Majority lost! I wait this time around to see what excuse is used in eastern Canada to cause that last 10 day slide.
