  1. @RGB – hilarious, but naaah – Gore’s houses are all quite a lot bigger than that, and certainly don’t have any other houses THAT close.
Had a great time last night and no – the lounge didn’t turn their lights off, and the DJ was in full loungey mode with some pretty massive tube amps and other warm, glowing things. Comforting. Speaking of which, this is prolly the year I invest in tube amps for my guitar and bass. Not quite ready to go back to instruments made out of mastodon shoulder blades yet, sorry hippies.

  2. Andrew: Good point! However, if all power was shut down the people who participate in this pointless exercise would realize just how essential power is to their existence. It would backfire.
And obviously the definition of essential is pretty broad. I doubt if there was a single newspaper, radio or TV station that shut down for Earth Hour. They don’t practice what they preach.

  3. @xx – here’s a Fun Fruitfuly Fact in lieu of pics:
Suzuki: “I’m not getting any money from my foundation. I’m getting my money, the foundation gets its money, from ordinary people. We don’t take government money, corporations have not been interested in funding us…So that’s my agenda. We speak on behalf of the people that fund us.”
Fact: Actually, the David Suzuki Foundation’s annual report for 2005/2006 lists at least 52 corporate donors including: Bell Canada, Toyota, IBM, McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Microsoft, Scotia Capital, Warner Brothers, RBC, Canon and Bank of Montreal.
The David Suzuki Foundation also received donations from EnCana Corporation, a world leader in natural gas production and oil sands development, ATCO Gas, Alberta’s principle distributor of natural gas, and a number of pension funds including the OPG (Ontario Power Generation) Employees’ and Pensioners’ Charity Trust. OPG is one of the largest suppliers of electricity in the world operating 5 fossil fuel-burning generation plants and 3 nuclear plants… which begs the question – is Suzuki now pro-nuclear power?

  4. “What could bring a neighborhood cluster like that together?”
The people who own those big expensive houses are probably out for the evening doing what people do,dinner at a a restaurant, a movie, play, sporting event, dance,or maybe they’re still down South for the Winter.
I’ve noticed here in Kelowna, very few on my block and surrounding area turn ’em off at 8 PM any night.

  5. Here’s one of his (4 I believe) addresses: 2477 Point Grey Road, Vancouver, BC, V6K 1A1. In case you feel like visiting. You might get to hear some colorful language like this person!

  6. A bunch of eco-tards calling their little event “Earth Hour”; as if they speak for the whole world.
Sort of a planetary version of Maude Barlow and her whinging, marxist hacks calling themselves the “Council of Canadians”.

  7. @ those criticizing Yes to Power
I agree that he should have made things more clear by including the name of the author, but if you notice in his original post, he starts by saying “In the Sun today -“.
I don’t think he was trying to take credit for the piece, he just failed to attribute it to its author.

  8. You know, the people that think this is a waste of time are doing it wrong. First, you need to shut every thing down for a couple of hours before Earth Hour and then fire up everything you got, thereby screwing up both the before and after readings. Because we all know that those solar farms can handle the increased demands at 9pm in Canada.
Actually, I hear the details of Ontario buying solar power for $0.84 /kwh from residential providers for a 20 year contract. I can get two adjoining properties and outfit one for solar to be sold to the grid and wire up the second house to supply both at $0.13 kwh (in NS). Heck, just sell them power you buy. That’s about 6.5 times profit. Sell even more at night and claim pit is lunar power. Calling Professor Harry Hill…

  9. With regard to the narrator:
Is it just me or do you too feel that, perhaps with 99%+ accuracy, identify a liberal on vocal quality alone?
There is a liberal vocal dialect, isn’t there?

  10. Its become a tradition for us to take our Christmas lights down teh day after Earth Hour. We had our full compliment of outdoor Christmas lights blazing away on Saturday night.
