Oh, Canada

There’s a peculiar story out of Winnipeg about a dozen Muslim families who have recently arrived in our country and absolutely don’t want their children enrolled in music classes or the boys & girls in the same phys-ed classes together.
This is a perfect opportunity for a Jason Kenney moment, when someone, be they in the local Muslim community or the school board, looks these parents squarely in the eyes and politely but firmly says, “You are in Canada now, not your homeland. A big part of your responsibility as a newcomer to our nation is to allow your children to become somewhat integrated into the society where they are now privileged to be. Failure to do this is disrespectful to every Canadian around you.”
Will that happen? No, I doubt it. Expect a “Human Rights” grievance to be filed against Winnipeg’s Louis Riel School Division within a few months and CBC News to do an in-depth “analysis” of why it’s racist & bigoted to not respect the cultural sensitivities of these families.

  1. I blame Immigration Canada, if they were adequately screening Refugees/immigrants we wouldn’t be getting those that think our society should devolve to accomadate their medieval backward cultural norms. If the educational system is smart they won’t accomadate the Wahhabists atall, in Canada men and women co-exist if they can’t cope with that fact leave and don’t come back. As for music it’s part of the fabric of WESTERN society if you don’t want your child exposed to music move to Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.

  2. So why did they come to Canada? Enough already of allowing in those who have no sense of responsibility to their host country, and even worse, believe that the host country is obligated to meet their demands instead of the reverse.

  3. At least one paragraph from the booklet that sets out Canada’s expectations of immigrants seeking to become citizens speaks directly to this. New immigrants cannot withdraw into their own ghetto. They are expected to become part of Canada. The paragraph reads as follows,
“The prosperity and diversity of our country depend on all Canadians working together to face challenges of the future. In seeking to become a citizen, you are joining a country that, with your active participation, will continue to grow and thrive.”
It seems to me that these folks are not meeting the rest of Canada’s expectations of aspirant citizens expectations and should be told as much; and if they continue to avoid working together (with the rest of us) and avoid actively participating in our country’s diverse social milieu they should be escorted to an airport and sent back to where they came from where they can continue to live in a closed environment where they offer nothing to their larger society.

  4. Amen Robert. This story can’t possibly get enough attention, IMO.
I’m probably 5yrs premature in saying this, but sooner or later, the anti-multiculturalism movement will gain enough momentum that it will emerge as THE wedge that drives an election campaign.

  5. One day you’re going to start seeing Islamic schools starting to pop up around Canada.
    ~Warren Z
There is already one in N.E. Calgary not far from the Princess Auto location.
    It’s in a warehouse.
How they got a permit to locate one there, in an industrial zone, is anybody’s guess.

  6. To Warren Z
The schools have already popped up in Regina and we also pay the way across the city to get them bussed to school.
    Enough of this.
We who loves Canada as it was want our country back and lets start with saying no. We have a rulebook or we should from Immigration. Come here and get involved in the Canadian way of life or we will start a fund to get a one way ticket back home for all of them.
I see enough of them around my area of the city with their faces covered – reminds me of how we use to dress up in Nfld. at Christmas but certainly wouldn’t go around like that all year.
Canada has to wake up real fast and stop this foolishness or we are handing our country over.

  7. I’m curious about one thing that probably relates to my age. I don’t remember co-ed phys-ed classes, and I have no hang-ups on the question (either way). Does anyone know when or why they were integrated?

  8. Immigration is the direct result of significantly lower birth rates in Canada which is a direct result of abortion, effective birth control, the cost of raising children since both parents usually must work to survive, the rise of feminism, and the emergence of same gendered couples who obviously can not reproduce.
I think it cheaper to reward Canadians for reproducing than it is to tax them inordinately to pay for immigrants to come to this country and reproduce.

  9. John,
Just out of curiosity, being somewhat out of touch in occupied far NW BC, do the Regina locals pay to bus other parochial students to and fro?

  10. Immigration is the direct result of significantly lower birth rates in Canada
    Disagree.
Studies have shown that higher taxes result in lower birthrates, especially if parents don’t think they can give their children as good or better standard of living than what they were raised with.
Paying immigrants exhorbitant social benefits that they have not earned is one of the causes of higher taxation.
Therefore, immigation is the cause of lower birth rates.
Additionally, statistics show that the mean age of immigrants exceeds that of Canadian citizens.
That is, many of the immigrants are beyond their child bearing years when they are allowed into the country.
Ponder that fact and then try and understand the bogus justification for bringing these immigrants in.

  11. Maybe if we started to view Islam the way many Persians view Islam, Arab Imperialism, we would stop playing nicey nice. As a religion Islam sucks! As a foundation of a nation Islam is a disaster. As for peaceful neighbours getting along with peaceful neighbours it is a….I can’t think of a negative word strong enough to describe it.

  12. I personally have absolutely no problem with these families doing whatever the hell they want with their kids. You want your kid to pray three times in the school day, can’t be in the same class as the opposite sex, blah blah blah, its ok. START YOUR OWN.
If -I- am paying for it, they get the one-size-fits-all version all the other kids are stuck with. No special deals on my dime.

  13. These people should just do what Pakistanis do routinely in England and pull their girls out of school at age 11. Oh, sure, it’s “illegal”, but the cops there are real cool about it and I bet the ones here would be too.
(Given the state of “education” in Blighty I can barely blame them, but, you know, principles and such.)

  14. So now we’re in favor of using the state to enforce ‘Canadian values’? Maybe the government should fund a new broadcaster called the Conservative Broadcasting Corporation to spread these values.
These parents are terrible for pulling their children out of classes but they are their children. Anything to undermine State(ist) Education is probably good. It is NOT the job of the government to enforce a “Vice and Virtue” values system on immigrants or anyone else.

  15. Hey, cluelesslibertarian, read Phantom’s post @4:41.
Of course the real point is that they should never have been let in in the first place.

  16. Paging Jason Kenny! Paging Jason Kenny! Please review what your government & bureaucrats are doing to Canada.
Call British PM Cameron and get his thoughts on Muslim immigration and Multi-cult berfore it is too late.

  17. Put them back on “Jihadi Air”, and send them home, their home, not our home.

  18. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if “dozen muslim families boils down to one extended family of shall we say folks who intend to burden our infidel governments as much as possible in as many ways as possible because that is also a form of jihad.

  19. just wait till muzzies are at the controls of dept of immigration.
look at the muzzies in parliament. how long before a burka shows up there?
OTOH I have enlightened muslim acquaintances who can put in a good word for me when they have completely taken control of the entire country using PQ tactics as a template……… and start sending resisters and the like to extermination camps.
and keep on clucking away and preaching to the converted now !!!

  20. look at the muzzies in parliament. how long before a burka shows up there?
    Now that’s funny.
Just so we’re on the same page, is she supposed to be elected by the kind of fundy Islamist that demands women should wear burkas or how does that actually work in your mind to become reality?

  21. This is Turdeau’s legacy, that bastard damaged Canada in a very profound way, but it is not too late to reverse.
Send the ungrateful jihadists back where they came from.

  22. Libertariansaresmarter>
I still chuckle at the hypocrisy of your moniker and statements. I’m hoping it’s really sarcastic humour.
When did Libertarianism equate to the philosophy of passive cowering? As stated above the argument is who pays for the “special” education out of public funds.
Considering that Libertarians are only a fraction of the +/- 360 million North Americans today, you would think that the potential immigration invasion of 1.3 billion Muslims in waiting (who are a direct contradiction to Libertarianism), would seem as some sort of threat.
That’s why the biggest question to ask, is why are Libertarians smarter? Your self proclaimed brand of libertarianism would have any totalitarian dog knock you down and piss all over you. Which is not really that smart, you should know.

  23. I am not sure what goes on except that they keep closing English only schools and consequently have to bus the kids quite a distance – not sure if the parents contribute to this. At the moment a group of parents are outraged because their school is being closed and in most cases they are turning them into French Immersion schools and on the Prairies of course we have so many speaking French – common sense – not one bit.
The Public School is obviously sponsoring the Muslim school but it is all a secret of course. I happen to be wandering a hotel and got downstairs by mistake – church was being held down there by the Muslims so we never know where they are preaching. One little kid obviously was not attentive enough as he was sitting alone in the hallway!

  24. Ignore Der Beagle, he’s just trying to be a smartass so he can point his CBC News comrades here and say, “You see what a bunch of racists these SDA’ers are!”
I have no problem with immigrants from every corner of the world. But I do have a huge problem with unreasonable accommodations from the host culture and with ghettos. If any Leftard (such as beagle) wants to call me a racist for such views then so be it but such a charge is as shallow as the minuscule depth of thinking where it originates.

  25. The printed version of the Post run the title “Immigrant families try to opt out of curriculum”
    http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/Immigrant+families+curriculum/4230246/story.html#ixzz1D8HHnjBP
We are immigrants to this great Country and feel very offended that the National Post decided to smear almost every Immigrant family because a bunch of muslim families acted along the lines of their well known stone-age ideals. I think that we, 99.9% of Immigrant families, have grounds for a class action complaint to the HRC, don’t we?

  26. quoth the mongrel: “just wait till muzzies are at the controls of dept of immigration.”
Why wait for that? Did you miss the thread about the Human Rights Commission taking a lady’s house? Your command of current events is conveniently selective, dog. This is why we mock you.
And speaking of trolls, pCp has said something to which, as a native born Canadian, I can only respond to in one way: Try to imagine what would have happened to you if you’d made that complaint back home, then with that image firmly in mind thank God you’re here.

  27. As a point of interest there is an article in the Winnipeg Free Press about the same thing. In that article they quote an Imam saying that this group of Muslims is way off base. That there is no problem with prepubescent children mixing genders. It’s all the more interesting when you realize that the children will be separated out by grade six, about the age puberty begins. So, I think thee are two stories here, one is a bunch of new immigrants trying to impose foreign, non-muslim values on Canadians, the other is the Post cropping a story to make it more inflammatory.

  28. First, as the article clearly states, even local Muslim officials are buffaloed by this request. The local director quoted said that there is no problem in Islam for pre-pubescent kids to play with each other.
Then I thought back to my own school days here in Canada. In elementary school, we all had gym together. Once we hit junior high, gym classes were split into boys and girls. This seemed quite reasonable to me (at age 11), as boys were playing rugby, football, and hockey, sports which the girls did not enjoy. So a request for separate gym classes as students age doesn’t seem that strange (and, BTW, my two girls are in high school in Toronto right now, and their gym classes are separated).
As for music: there is a minority opinion in Islam that music is forbidden, but most Islamic scholars think that is a misinterpretation. From a Canadian Islam site:
Traditions often cited by the first [anti-music] group scholars to justify condemnation of all musical instruments and music, according to some scholars, are considered as either spurious, or phrased in such way solely because of their associations with drinking, dancing, and sensuality.
While everyone agrees that all forms of music that contain pagan, sensual themes, or subliminal messages are clearly forbidden, the latter group of scholars considers all forms of music free of such themes and messages as permissible.
I doubt they’re playing NWA or Snoop Dogg to elementary school kids.

  29. Well, they can home school. Really,if you don’t give me what I want I’ll hold my breath ’till I turn blue. Ok.. in Winnipeg you may have to tell someone you are holding your breath.

  30. i feel if they want to come to canada and assimilate into our culture and laws, fine.
if they want me to assimilate into theirs…then leave them where they are.
can you imagine killing your daughter because she won’t marry the guy you picked out for her.
what do we want to bring people to this country with those values for?

  31. Now that’s funny.
Just so we’re on the same page, is she supposed to be elected by the kind of fundy Islamist that demands women should wear burkas or how does that actually work in your mind to become reality?

easy oz; she’s a Lieberal candidate. they’ll vote anyone in office to throw on the altar of multicult.

  32. “they’ll vote anyone in office to throw on the altar of multicult.”
Who, specifically is the “they” in they’ll.
I’m not getting the demographic of who you imagine will cast a vote for a burka clad candidate.
What is the demographic makeup of the riding that such a candidate can run and win in and where in Canada will that riding be?

  33. So doggie, still no comment on Maxcine Telfer having her house confiscated by the Muslim-led OHRC? Any comment on the OHRC guy’s name not being in any of the papers, had to go to the blogs to find out it was Faisal Bhabha? Any comment on Faisal Bhabha’s abuse of power getting chucked in his teeth by Ontario Superior Court?
    No?
It takes a true Lefty to keep on riding the lie/deny plan down in flames like that.

  34. Somehow Robert and Phantom didn’t catch the sarcastic nature of my comment. Although there is a component of truth in it. As the type of immigrant that supports complete adherence to the laws and the values of this Land, I don’t want (nor like) to be put in the same bag with those who want to erode Canada’s values by abusing the willingness to make accommodations that Canadians have amply demonstrated to all immigrants.
I am pretty sure that the same feeling is shared by a lot of immigrants that like myself see Canada as a place hundreds of time better than the old country.

  35. Robert

I would like to disagree, but our collective experience tells us all, you are probably right.
    Ten Million anyone?
