For the first time the Taliban are willing to negotiate … why … because they are losing not only the battle, but the will. Their factions are fragmenting and a growing number of fighters are coming home. There is a limit to how many young men are willing to leave their villages never to return.

How about the Taliban are willing to negotiate because they know they will be getting seats in the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Have you ever actually crunched the numbers, Cjunk, to find out how many military aged young men the enemy has available and what the birthrate of the Islamic world implies?

From the Islamic point of view, mere survival of the Taliban is victory.
Unless the Taliban are utterly crushed and cease to exist they never see it as a loss.
To have their representatives sitting in the Afghan parliament will be a victory for the Taliban(think Hiz’allah in Lebanon) since our goal was to invade Afghanistan and thrown them out of government.

Whoever they are, they should be denied re-entry to our country. They’re murderous traitors, which should immediately deny them continued citizenship in Canada.

You’re right, of course. But, the chance of their being either prosecuted, let alone convicted and penalized for these crimes is just about nil. My fear would be that if they come back to Canada, nothing will happen to them or, worse, they’ll blow more than a few Canadians up.
I fear nothing may be done as well.
