  1. The Dems just keep-on digging.
I’m not a political expert, but it seems the Democrats have worked themselves into a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ situation.
Damned if you do: if Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid allows an ‘Up or Down’ vote on the Obamacare repeal, he runs the risk of a) losing the vote because vulnerable Democrat Senators cross the aisle to preserve their jobs in 2012; or b) winning the vote, and having on record all Senators that voted to annex the repeal. This could very well be the nail needed for 2012 GOP Senate hopefuls to seal the Democrats proverbial Senate Majority coffin.
Damned if you don’t: if Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid obstructs or prevents a Senate vote on the Obamacare repeal, it will likely be perceived as contempt for the American public, the November 2010 elections, and democracy. Progressives can argue that not having the aforementioned vote is not those things I mentioned above, but they will have a hard time arguing that it isn’t the perception.
This is likely where the iSht hits the fan for the Democrats. The smart thing to do (politically) in my mind is to let democracy run its course. I suspect most people are like me, and would think more of a person (or the Democrats) if they were more humble and admit that they had this wrong. Who knows, perhaps they’d even win. But if my experience is any indicator at all, the Democrats will literally ‘go for broke’ in all senses of the phrase to preserve the ‘entitlement infrastructure’ they so desperately desire.JMO
Finally, and likely for another thread, is what will the political consequences be for Barak Obama IF the Obamacare repeal actually makes it to Obama’s desk?

  2. There is a third option for the Democrats, and were I a Democrat Senator, and if for some miracle the ‘Up or Down’ vote proceeds, I, and this is just me, would take a page out of BO’s play book and vote ‘PRESENT’. Or, in the Canadian way, just not show-up for the vote.
I believe that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid WILL NOT allow this vote to proceed because IMO it is very likely that the Democrat Senators would use a combination of escape routes I’ve outlined.
Whether it’s football, or politics, those Yanks have way more fun than we do.

  3. O is a doner all right…Especially if the new governor of Hawaii, promising to disclose the proof that Obama was born on Hawaiian soil during his own election campaign now says they can’t locate the hospital long form official birth certificate…The same document that the previous Governor said she saw in the archives.
In 2012, vetting a candidate to be eligible for POTUS under the Constitution will be the new norm and will be monitored closely.
    Good Luck Barry…

  4. There are things the Repubs can do – shut down all other business in the Senate until this is addressed, for one. Other procedural annoyances can be brought to bear as well.
Dirty Harry is in for a well-deserved beating.

  5. > now says they can’t locate the hospital long form official birth certificate
Now you see it… Now you don’t.
Aren’t they saying now that they found record of birth? Don’t know what that is supposed to mean, i.e. if that’s the same as LFBC (gut feeling is not).
For the record – I am a birther until O shows the LFBC.

  6. It doesn’t really matter all that much what the Senate or the President do. The House controls the -money-. They can de-fund every damn thing the DemocRats voted in last session. They can zero out the budgets of any department they wish, such as the FCC or the EPA.
As the saying goes, money changes everything.
Best part is, with the Dems shrieking “NAZIS!!!” over just the repeal vote, they’ve pretty much shot their bolt rhetorically speaking. The debate is over, Godwin’s Law has been called, now its time for the steamroller derby.
    Tea Party, start your engines.

  7. SYF said, “Birthers are loony.”
Better hope so, because if they aren’t, then its now a Constitutional crisis in ALL CAPS.

  8. set you free
    [……..Birthers are loony…….]
    Looking into a mirror? matey?
The current governor is a loyal Obanmanite (Dupnik-like)determined to bebunk the birther agenda…..
Yet he has admitted they can’t locate the LFBC and neither hospital has any record of such a birth.

  9. Sensing an opportunity to promote the first black man to president in an attempt to erase an overbearing sense of guilt from their predecessors passing the Jim Crow laws, a secret cabal within the Democratic Party made a pact.
They would find a birth announcement in another country and duplicate it in both Honolulu newspapers.
A newborn baby named Barrack Hussein Obama was chosen for this particular mission.
He really was born in (fill in country of your choice here), but since Hawaii was recently granted statehood, the Democratic cabal seized the opportunity.
They were the ones who paid for the falsified birth announcements in the two Honolulu newspapers and they paid off his Marxist parents with hush money.
The conspiracy came to its expected conclusion when said Barrack Hussein Obama, with the help of the secret cabal within the Democratic Party, got the nomination to run for President of the U.S.
    What a lovely conclusion.
    What a great conspiracy theory.
    What a bunch of bullspit.

  10. Bi-partisanship? 3 Dems? I don’t believe there’s any such thing anyway: save-your-assism more like.
I’m with Set You Free on this one, tho I must confess to having been a bit of a birther for a few brief period.
I’m pretty confident he meets the constituional requirements. I just think there’s stuff — potentially embarrassing stuff — on that long form he doesn’t want the public to know. Like his university transcript.
Birtherism is no less nutty that 9/11 trooferism in my view.
Finally, I think Obama actually gets mileage out of the birther movement: it helps discredits the right.

  11. SYF Like bambam? His father was gone year one and yet..and yet.. not in his books. Does he remember things that did not happen or forget on a convenience basis? I’ll go with both.

  12. I completely agree MND.
Course, the Republican house got three more of the opposition to vote for repeal than the Dems got to vote for Obamacare.

    You got it, my friend.
Birthers are out side’s version of truthers.

Good comeback … for somebody who has nothing more to add to the debate.
    Let me help you out.
Am I wrong is pointing out Barack Hussein Obama’s birth announcement ran in two Honolulu newspapers?
What part of that can’t you understand?

  15. For set you free:
If you would bother to stop brewing that fresh hot black tea for a couple of minutes, you would understand that The One’s grandparents could easily have placed that announcement in those papers. I realize you are a product of Public Education, but hopefully you’ll be able to note that the announcements DO NOT specify a LOCATION of birth. But then that doesn’t fit your little spiel, does it?
Also note that, BY HIS OWN WORDS, The One is NOT a US citizen. He proudly claims to have attended Indonesian public school in the 1970s. However, there is one little problem with that. At that time, Indonesia DID NOT allow non-citizens to attend their public schools. And furthermore, they DID NOT recognize dual citizenship. If The One WAS EVER a US citizen, he renounced his citizenship at that time. It is ALSO worth noting that His Momma REMOVED him from her passport at that same time, thus corroborating his renunciation of citizenship. And YET MORE BY HIS OWN WORDS, he claims to have traveled to Pakistan in 1981. But you COULD NOT DO THAT on a US passport! The Muslim In Chief is an illegal alien. Put THAT in your crosshairs and smoke it!

  16. For JohnPeg:
Not according to MadCow or Tingly Matthews. And those are the Only Ones that set you free believes.

  17. Anybody here have their own birth announcement printed anywhere but the local newspaper?
I’m guessing not everybody was annointed to be the President of the US at the very moment of their birth.
    It’s a conspiracy, I tell ya … a vast left-wing conspiracy.

  18. The REST of us here have our Birth Certificates, however. Keep on brewin’ that fresh hot black tea, bro! But do understand that it looks gross dribbling down your chin like that…

  19. Posted by: Mark Matis at January 20, 2011 6:42 PM
Do you have any proof for your false statements or have you run out of facts?
Can you name me one FOX news commentator who is a birther or is sympathetic to birthers?
Like 9/11 truthers, both can best be described as residents of the lunatic fringe.

  20. Why should anyone bother to cite Fox as authority? You Communists are continually going on about how they are nothing but liars. Read your own newspapers, sucker! Governor Abercrombie has said THEY CANNOT FIND the Birth Certificate for The One. And HE is ONE OF YOURS! As I said, I realize you are a product of the Public “Education” system, but WHAT PART OF THAT do you not understand? Are you REALLY that fond of fresh hot black tea? Mmm, mmm, mmm!

  21. Am I wrong is pointing out Barack Hussein Obama’s birth announcement ran in two Honolulu newspapers?
You’re right about that, set you free.
If you’re drawing a conclusion that running a birth announcement in some newspapers is somehow proof that the baby referred to in the announcements was born in the city or state the announcemnt was printed in then you’d be wrong there.
Did Stanley Dunham know little Barack was going to be POTUS?
    No.
But Stanley Dunham was a Communist and Communists just love having some American taxpayer funded social services entitlements.
Hawaii just happened to be the only U.S. state/territory that Stanley Dunham could plausibly claim her baby was born in to get those entitlements.

  22. You know, fond though I am of birthers, they ask me to believe two things that I simply cannot bring myself to believe. One, that Hilary Clinton didn’t really want to be president and was just running for the exercise. The other, that Bill Clinton lacked the sense and the connections to get his hands on a birth certificate held in the archives of a Democrat-controlled state.
Either or both of these things could of course be true, but I simply am not willing to believe them. The conclusion being, Obama has irrefutably valid proof of birth and Clinton has seen it. On that basis, I don’t really need to see it myself.

  23. Mark:
As you’ve clearly proven, everybody is entitled to their delusions.
Pass on my sympathies to your abused wife and children.
Oh, how easy it is to throw out false accusations.

  24. I haven’t read the rest of the thread yet, set you free, but you lost me right here: “A newborn baby named Barrack Hussein Obama was chosen for this particular mission”.
    Who thinks that?

  25. lookout:
Not meant to be taken serious.
Just a parody on birthers’ conspiratorial thinking. One thing I know for sure, this is a real dumb issue to waste a lot of energy on.
Bambam is the president already and will be out of office soon enough.
Sorry for the confusion. Take care.

  26. To equate birthers to truthers is absurd, syf. This is a true leap of dimwittedness.
All Hussein has to do is produce his certificate. End of story. If anybody was asked to do that, they would, there’s nothing to hide……is there?
As far as truthers, now you’re talking tinfoil hat territory. On that we agree. Anybody with a modicum of scientific knowledge, first year university or college, will understand metallurgy, heat, and force, to a basic enough level, to know what happened.
Funny thing is syf, it’s your crowd that falls towards the troofer side of the ledger, what’s wrong with you?

  27. Dan:
As a conservative human being, I’m unsure what you mean by ‘your crowd.’
What’s wrong with me? I dunno, just like to debate facts.
One thing I have learned though, is that ad hominem attacks are not the exclusive putdown method employed by left-wing loons.
Scroll up and you will see also see ad hominem attacks by right-wing loons.
Don’t mind debating the facts, but this birther stuff seems a waste of time and energy. But then, that could just be me.
Am I allowed to thinks that way without being put down?

  28. > Am I wrong is pointing out Barack Hussein
    > Obama’s birth announcement ran in two Honolulu newspapers?
Running announcement in a newspaper 101 for SYF:
    1. Pick up phone.
    2. Dial newspaper.
    3. Give them your CC#.
    4. Speak the text.
    5. Read your announcement in tomorrow’s paper and rejoice.
If you don’t have a CC mail a cheque.
If you don’t have a bank account, ask your grandma to drive to the paper’s office with cash. Voila.

  29. Aaron:
You’re so smart. To think, I never knew how to place an ad in a newspaper.
    And your point is?
Let me guess. Placing Barack Obama’s birth announcement in the newspaper was a calculated political move.
Why didn’t my parents think of that?
That way, a baby born in England could some day become president of the United States.
Is there no limit to human imagination?
    Really?

  30. The other, that Bill Clinton lacked the sense and the connections to get his hands on a birth certificate held in the archives of a Democrat-controlled state.
    ~ebt
An assumption that the State of Hawaii actually has BHO’s LF birth certificate which further assumes he was born in Hawaii.
If BHO wasn’t born in Hawaii then the result would be that nobody, including BJ Clinton or the Governor of Hawaii, would be able to acquire the LFBC from the State archives in Hawaii if there never was one in the archives to begin with.

  31. Dan:
Da proof is da proof because it’s proven.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of placing my three now-adult children’s birth announcement in, say, Scotland.
That way, one of my kids could now be in line to be the new King of Scotland.
Darn. Must have been sp pre-occupied with joy about the birth of my children than I forgot to make it a calculated political move that could make one of them ruler of the free world.

  32. Have it your way, Oz. Bill Clinton goes to check Obama’s ostensible Hawaiian birth, and finds that there is no record in the state archives of any such birth. And his response is to say, “Aw, shucks, how frustrating”, and leave it at that.
I can believe that. Of course, I’ll need a bottle.

  33. > And your point is?
That to get their baby the perks of US citizenship the O-momma and O-granma would chip off a few bucks for a classified ad and not break a sweat.

  34. I can’t claim to be a birther in the truest sense of the word but comparing the presidency to any other job: If I ran an ad for a truck driver I would want to see the actual license along with the drivers abstract. I would NOT hire any driver who shows up and says, “Trust me I can drive a truck”. One of the requirements of being POTUS is ‘native born’. Therefore it is incumbent on anyone seeking that job to provide proof to all his potential employers (voters). Unless he provides proof it is appropriate to hold that he is NOT qualified.

  35. “I dunno, just like to debate facts.”
I was of the impression that ‘facts’ are beyond debate. Conclusions however, are another matter altogether.

  36. Well, ebt, at the time of the Democratic primaries in 2008 the then Governor of Hawaii Linda Lingle (R) issued a statement saying that she had seen Obama’s LFBC.
Now, the new Governor Neil Abercrombie claims it is nowhere to be found.
What was Bill Clinton supposed to say, “Well, in violation of existing privacy laws, I (either through bribery or influence peddling) had someone check and they didn’t find a LFBC for Barack Obama in Hawaii.”?
Please, ebt, spin me a plausible scenario here as to what BJ Clinton actually would have said.
    I lack your imagination.
You do know that a number of states are not going to allow people who haven’t shown their LFBC on the presidential ballots of their state in 2012, don’t you, ebt?
That means anyone who doesn’t comply can kiss the electoral votes from those states goodbye.
That is why Neil Abercrombie is concerned here and saying the lack of one is going to have a political cost for Obama.
