There is no peace to keep. Hence talk of “peace” in the middle east meas something else.
The bottom line is that there has to be a final solution to the Israeli/Palestinian problem.
The main issue is the border. Once the border is defined, chances for peace are very good.
I think that Israeli’s will want to maintain their settlements on the West Bank and have open access to them. I think that the Palestinians will want a land bridge between the West Bank and Gaza in exchange so that they have their own access to the sea. The question will be as to how this is done without segregating anything or anyone.
I think the US sees an opportunity here to get this done because the right leaders are in place. They just need to be pushed.

cconn, your comment reveals a woeful and tragic misunderstanding of the conflict. It is NOT a border dispute. Abbas (the good terrorist) has now taken off the mask and stated that even with a US unilaterally-declared state, the PA will NOT recognize Israel as a state.
The Arabs want 100% of Palestine, the 80% of which it already owns in the form of Jordan (the existing “Palestinian” state), and the 20% owned by Israel. ALL. They want Jews living as dhimmis (second class citizens) initially and then over time the whole area to be cleansed of Jews, just as has been accomplished in the rest of the Arab world.
A third Arab-muslim state in Palestine (after Jordan and the quasi-state Gaza) will be a terror state.
There is no peace process. Only a murder-suicide process.

During the six-day war, the word “Palestinian” wasn’t used to describe Arabs. It was the Arab-Israel conflict. The Jerusalem Post was once called the Palestinian Post. The Jerusalem Symphony was the Palestinian Symphony. There was a brigade of Jews in WW2 called the Palestinian Brigade. So, the word existed but didn’t refer to area Arabs as a “people”.
The commie-Arab world had a problem. Little Israel vs. 100s of millions of Arabs. Israel=David, Arabs=Goliath. As you well know, it’s natural to favour the underdog.
Ah ha! Let’s invent a new “people” — the “Palestinian people” who will be David to the Israeli-Goliath.
