It’s whitetail season again, so posting will be slow here over the next several days.
For those who find it disturbing to think that I might take the life of an innocent animal in the name of sport, let me assure you right here and now that this year I’ll be hunting with a video camera.
I’ll just have to put it down to take a shot.

Saskatchewan is a sportsman’s paradise, I’m envious.
I didn’t see a thing here on my deer hunt this year around Algonquin Park.
Heading to N.Y. State in 2 weeks to where the odds are better.
I did get a 200 lb Black Bear sow the day before Thanksgiving though.
I am very cognizant that a alarge segment hereabouts regard me as an excentric….and envy.
I am not a hunter…I am a shooter….nuff said.
Many have commented I lead a charmed existance relying on a motorcycle as my primary mode of transport.
’78 1100 Virago with a “sport” windsheild and deer whistles. I drive defensively and OFTEN inspect and clean the whistles for dead insects.
Those whistles even get the attention of possums (10X dummer than deer).
An evening drive—-lotsa eyes over the fences…
Deer hit vehicles….all to true….head down…right into the side.
ROO bars save a lot but only the front end.
With rigs…..ROO bars are only really effective against bambi—-but with swamp-donkeys they save lives(keeping Bullwinkle outa the driver’s seat and shielding the steering gear) but only mitigate damage.
Just finished up hunting in ND. Filled my tag but saw very few deer. Hearing the same thing from most other hunters. Good luck!

If you were ever to be struck with the bow hunting & muzzle loading bugs (as I am now afflicted), we’d be lucky to hear from you from the beginning of September to the end of November. Have 2 of my 6 deer tags filled so far (one of the pluses about living in Manitoba). No one around here wants to be out of venison before the next season rolls around. Besides, if you don’t harvest them, they’ll just go to waste.

Unfortunately, I already have one deer this year, she totaled out our 12 year old Toyota Corolla that had 300,000 miles on it. Never would have thought a deer could walk away from a hit like that, but damn she did. Good thing I had the trusty .45 under the seat. Opening for gun season here in Michigan was monday. Got one with my car on the way to work of course.
On a completely unrelated matter, it might be wise to avoid taking your great danes for long walks in the Delisle, SK area during the next few weeks.

Indeed. Also one of the most difficult steps in field dressing a moose is getting the saddle off.

Good hunting to ya. I was skunked last week-end. Theres snow on the ground now so this week-end should be better.

We feed them. Coming home now during daylight savings, there’s typically four yearlings grazing next to the driveway on Little Deby cupcakes, Hostess Ho-Ho’s, day old bread and cracked corn. To say they are sleek is an understatement. The only thing they won’t east is rye bread. At night the formal herds move in with the multi-point stags and their females. Of course because of this we also have raccoons the size of Iowa hogs, 20-pound opossums and finally, FINALLY, our very own squirrel. We were going to kidnap the farmer’s black squirrel from down the street but the landscaper said they’d already be here if there was enough for them to eat. Clearly, there now is.

Have said it before and will say again…..Vension is the most hideous meat out there. Elk and swamp donkey are yummy!!! And progressive indian we have lots and lots of moose here east of lloydminster feel free to come and bag one. They are hell on my fences!!!

Cheaper Plstes for vehicles ($ 12.00 less) and a hundred other things i cant recall at this time.
..and no insidious “Time Of Use” electrical meters.!
Lst electrical bill was over 600 for 2 months..and TOU want even in place yet.!!
I figure I’m saving 7-9000 after tax $$ annually..all other things being pretty much equal.

I should add, the best opportunity of the day came when a cow moose walked out of the bush. That’s two years in a row now, in an area in which moose were unheard of 30 years ago. I blame chemfallow….

Mid-nineties there were none around here. Since then, numbers have mushroomed, and why not?
-No hunting pressure. Unlicenced zone until 2010 with a measly 25 tags issued.
-Couldn’t be better- lush foraging and overflowing potholes
-Absence of ticks that really decimated the population in the northern zones over several winters and pushed them out to the farmland.
Now they’re regular trespassers thru my yard, garden, driveways. A nocturnal road encounter I don’t want to see.
We got a couple of bulls in early season in zone 56. Snow was tough enough then in places, and there’s been and will be more since, but hopefully come Saturday, we can still get around and fill a couple more tags.
Of course, whitetails are also on the radar.
Ah! deer season –the Sask religious holiday that in our area lasts all November. One small trick we learned years ago, never put a cover on venison when frying it, seems if you steam it the meat goes Deery. Had a beautiful deer steak for dinner , shot a week ago. Like 4-H beef!!
