Posted by Kate at November 20, 2009 9:00 PMAlas, poor Bambi! I knew him, Kate, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a thousand times, and now how abhorr'd in my imagination it is! Well, not really, I didn't like him that much.
Congrats and good shot!
(assuming that that healthy six pointer is yours)
Can almost taste the roasts and steaks now, yum.
This is rather distasteful, what this being the Christmas season and all. You know.....on Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vix.......What? It's not just Christmas yet? Oh. I thought it was, what with all those Christmas decorations in all the stores. Never Mind. Venison....ummmmmmmm.... *smack* *smack*.......better than donuts.
Posted by: INP at November 20, 2009 9:18 PMNice little buck Kate. Looks like it'll make some great sausage.
Of course, you know you've made nine people in Rosedale faint dead away. :-)

Next year we're planning a deer dressing video "how-to". I figure I can take down an entire Liberal riding with that.

No way,Kate....I figure Vanqueer in total!
Posted by: Justthinkin at November 20, 2009 9:46 PMLet us respect the animals, as they provide us with sustenance.
Let us also go completely bonkers and anthropomorphize them and treat them like children.
Also, no wearing of pelts or having them as pets.
But stamping on ants, swatting flies is OK because *those* animals are not cute and furry.
Posted by: PiperPaul at November 20, 2009 9:52 PMIt looks exactly like a shop should in mid november.

How about a how not to dress a deer video?

Posted by: Edward Teach at November 20, 2009 9:56 PMVery nice buck.
Shot my first buck 10 days ago in central Ontario.
Then left the garage open in suburban Greater Toronto Area to help "acclimatize" the neighbours and their pampered children to the realities of life. Had 4 deer in various stages hanging in plain sight. the horror! LOL
Posted by: CarsonH at November 20, 2009 9:56 PMIsn't that a bit cruel? He's having trouble breathing in that position.
On another note, thank you for hitting that guy, and not some surveyor in brown coveralls. This is not my favourite time of year for field work. Enjoy the meat.

Posted by: Jamie MacMaster at November 20, 2009 11:05 PMGood one Kate, I am envious.
All the more reason why I am up at O dark thirty to head out into the wilds to bag one for myself tomorrow.
I hope your buck had liberal inclinations.

Big fat neck.
I got a doe Friday the 13th.
Hunting NY State next month.
yours in camo,
Nice buck Kate. You sure that is not the one hanging around Can Oat?
Good luck shippedout.

Good comment, but to take this seriously, telescopic sights make the sport safer than football. No real excuse for shooting at anything "brown" if you cannot id. it as a buck, doe, whitetail or mulie. None are just brown.
Beautiful Whitetail Buck; Kate; congrats.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at November 21, 2009 2:46 AMFor all it's worth, in Canada, that's a 3 point (unless the port side has 4 points then it's a 4 point)
Sounds like a pretty good hunt, this guy and two does. Not shabby at all. Good on ya' Kate.

Posted by: Pat at November 21, 2009 2:58 AMI think that is fantastic that the G7 finance ministers are going to Iqaluit. There are so many layers of messages in selecting this venue.
First: Lots of the northern and very southern world is still REALLY cold, as it has been for a while through the ages, and nothing is globally warming there too much any time soon (EU take note, especially with the UK new international science fraud issues).
Secondly: These people need to eat up here, so seals are good protein and have skins that can be made into warm wearable items (EU take note). They also need to have outlets for their cool bi-products of eating to survive. Actually, they can be viewed as noteworthy enviro-approved recyclers who are good with the 100-mile trend...
Thirdly: A message that Canada will defend its northern sovereignty, and we will seriously mess with anyone who challenges us. You thought we were fearless in Afstan, just try us at home...
I do think that Harper knows that here is a serious northern threat to our nation and will bring the vets home to defend us on our own turf. Coast to coast to coast is a new vision, based on serious threats to Canada.
We must keep Harper in power to defend our nation, as the Libranos can't do it with their city-based perspective, and neither can the NDP of course, even if they take over as the official opposition.
Actually, I hope that the split left will go on for years, as a united left would bring us back to a new Trudeau agenda, which will kill Canada as we know it.
that didn't take long
Posted by: rzr at November 21, 2009 5:50 AMBig dead animal?
Posted by: minuteman at November 21, 2009 6:22 AMDon't get me wrong. I wear the brightest colours I can buy during hunting season. I just happened to run into a guy in brown coveralls the other day.
Even with the bright colours, I still have a fear of city folks, and first time hunters. I'm not sure a flashing light would be enough protection.
Posted by: dp at November 21, 2009 6:26 AMNice one Kate................yum yum.

With all the blood gone to that animal's head, despite his present state, he is still sure to be smarter than the average Leftard.
Posted by: a different bob at November 21, 2009 9:06 AMKate, please feel free to slip across the border and clean my acreage out. If I'm not dodging them with my vehicle, I'm shooing them out of my garden.
Friggin'. Oversized. Rats.
Posted by: Sean at November 21, 2009 9:29 AM"Don't get me wrong. I wear the brightest colours I can buy during hunting season."
I was about to say, if you aren't dressed up so you can be seen from orbit walking around in deer country in hunting season, you are planning on winning a "passive darwin award".
Seriously, brown? I hope you clued them in that a reflective vest and hat are cheap insurance.
Posted by: Fred2 at November 21, 2009 9:46 AMNice one 'Kate'.
Posted by: Merle Underwood at November 21, 2009 10:13 AMWell done Kate. I did bag one last week, and it is, or rather its quarters are curing in the garage now.
I'd like to hang it the way you did, but never managed to get one close enough. Always had to dress them in the field.
I understand you're allowed more than one kill in SK? Here in ON you can get two in some areas, but it's normally just one.
Posted by: GreenNeck at November 21, 2009 10:48 AMI gave up on the chain hoist last year. It works, but the 8' engine crane does a damned spiffy job, it's mobile and I can justify it's purchase for other reasons (not that I actually used them) all that handiness can be had for all of $175. The only caveat for using it, a cement floor is pretty much mandatory.
Posted by: the bear at November 21, 2009 12:22 PMGreenNeck: There are so many deer bouncing around Saskatchewan that there should be put a bounty put on them for safety reason. I saw more deer in 4 years there than I did in 40 in Alberta.
Driving there at night is an adventure, to say the least, what with the roving bands of the beasts. Even the normal government auto insurance doesn't cover them with the basic policy; you have to pay extra for the Bambi rider.
So, yeah, they don't restrict the "resident" tags as much as some places. Some might argue there is a underdeveloped non-resident hunting market.
Posted by: hoil at November 21, 2009 12:23 PMOne less damn fool deer to run in front of my truck at dusk. Plus food! Extra added bonus points, it annoys all the right people.
Win/win/win!
Good call on the chain hoist BTW. You can power wash the chain, whereas a rope hoist gets kinda fragrant if you get any on there.
Yes vegetarians, I am twisting the knife a bit. Hee hee, I'm such a devil! :)

Posted by: Kate at November 21, 2009 6:08 PMI got a feeling some CRU scientists are gonna be in the same predicament as that buck shortly.
You are a national treasure Kate MacMillan!
Kate do you have a gunrack in your truck? Do you have a truck? Are you and your partner cousins? It's a trick question. I'm assuming you have a partner.
Posted by: ok4ua at November 21, 2009 8:31 PMKate, I find this offensive.
Mostly because I just returned from a week long hunting trip and got NOTHING!!
Maybe I gotta move back to Saskatchewan.
Posted by: Karl at November 21, 2009 10:30 PMThat place needs a decorative sign on the wall. Something along the lines of, "The buck stops here"...
