  1. I had to turn off security for only a few hours, and have been able to access SDA and some other sights, like Stephen Taylor, since then, no problem.
I’d love to know what the problem was. ‘Anyone going to tell us? I understand, Kate, that disclosing it isn’t your call, but whose is it?!

  2. @Mark Peters:
Possibly a Firefox ‘Cache’ issue?   Have you tried clearing your Firefox cache?
    .

  3. I’d like to know what the actual problem was too.
All I saw was a Tweet from Stephen Taylor saying:
“Blogging Tories suffered a major hack in the last 48 hours. We’re working w Google, our host and the police. Thanks for your understanding.”

  4. My guess is that the BT site had a security hole that was used to link up some virus causing malware that may have autorun when someone viewed the file.
Having gone through the procedure before at my real job, you have to clean out the database and files and make sure the traces are gone, possibly to the point of rebuilding a server from scratch. It isn’t fun and it takes some time.
    Shouldn’t cause long-term harm though.
If you normally look at the BT site, you may want to run a virus scanner on your computer though.
The reason SDA and the other sites on the blogroll popped the warning is Google automatically treats you as a potential threat if you link to a site that is. Then Google has to have a human verify that you are not or wait until the next google bot comes through.

  5. Odd. I still get the attack site warning. Tried clearing cache, cookies, etc. Still get the message. Any tekkies out there with suggestions?

  6. Thank god, I actually went to CBC’s site out of boredom. It’s like wading into a leftarded sewer over there.

  7. Yes, andycanuck, I’m a long time Firefox user as well. But, it’s obviously something to do with my laptop, which is what I was using earlier, and getting the attack site message. I’m now at my desktop, and nary a warning page is to be found.
