October 19th, 2010 – In Ontario on Tuesday, Health Promotion Minister Margarett Best suggested it might investigate a new fast-food item. KFC has introduced to Canadians its Double Down – two slabs of seasoned fried chicken sandwiching bacon, cheese and secret sauce.
October 28th, 2010 – [T]he Double Down has become KFC Canada’s best-selling new menu item ever. By Sunday — less than two weeks after the product launched — the company said it will have sold more than 350,000 across the country.
Contact the Minister here to demand she investigate the public health threat posed by Conservative blogs.
I have yet to see a KFC outlet where the employees force passers-by to enter the establishment and eat the food.
That being said, if you don’t like it, don’t eat it. If you think it’s unhealthy, by all means avoid it. In the meantime, stfu and don’t tell me what I can and cannot ingest and please refrain from lecturing on my food choices.

True story, I ordered a Double-Down at a KFC Drive-Thru yesterday, the first thing that comes on the radio is a commercial for the “Heart & Stroke Association of Manitoba”- not a good sign.
Btw- the Double-Down is way too salty, couldn’t taste the chicken or bacon, may KFC wanted it that way.
On another dietary note apparently McDonald’s has re-introduce the McRib nationwide in the USA again.
Thank-you McD’s for fighting Islamic terrorists one stomach at a time.
In other fast food news the A&W Spicy Mama Burger is not that spicy, I think the onions were hotter than the pepperjack cheese and chipotle sauce. If they really wanted to promote the burger, they should have called in the “Hot Mama!”
Btw-Boone’s Farm would also go well with a Double-Down, or a nicely chilled bottle of Baby Duck. And I’d happily order and eat a Double-Down again if it wasn’t so salty.

Clearly you’re not a nutritionist. The salt content is absolutely shocking…with all the ‘health’ trends veering towards reduced carbs and reduced fat (which is really supporting an ‘image’ trend, as most ‘health’ trends are) there has been a tendency to replace the flavor by adding salt. Sodium is possibly the worst contributer to heart, and other diseases.

Reading this it’s no surprise that you’re a diabetic. How about eating none of the above? That’s the ONLY ‘better choice’.

There is no need to ‘think’…it isn’t just grossly unhealthy, it’s disgusting.
Now I’m not suggesting ANY sort of ban, restrictions, etc be placed on foods like this…but what I am strongly suggesting is that sh1t food like this not be hailed as anything but sh1t. Why do many of you have to go beyond arguing against the intrusion of government in personal decisions, to the point of declaring value in worthless food, along with pride in doing so? You’re just placing yourself at the opposite end of the spectrum. They’re crazy for trying to decide what you can eat, and you’re crazy for trying to support worthless, unhealthy food.
And why focus on crap food as a point from which to argue against intrusion on personal choice? Why not focus on drugs? In this respect, the government has been strictly enforcing laws against your right to decide what to put in your body for some time now. The fact that Cannabis is STILL illegal is the epitome of government intrusion, and an insanely ignorant one at that.
California is voting for complete legalization of Cannabis, even going so far as allowing about 2 square meters of personal growing space, on Nov. 2nd. If this passes I guarantee how Cannabis is perceived in North America will change drastically.
Insanely stupid = imitating the diet of the most obese nation in the world, which has also dropped from 24th to 49th place for life expectancy in the past decade.

It isn’t as though food is the only issue of free choice we discuss here and it isn’t as if you, BTJ, are a friend or champion of free choice.
This time, it just happens to be the thread topic.
Simply put, government has no business dictating a diet to us or spending tax money investigating caloric content or otherwise in food other than to certify the ingredients individually for safety chemically or prevent adulteration of certified ingredients.
The ability to find out caloric and salt content of food of all kinds available in the U.S. and Canada has been accessable in books for decades and is probably online for free.
What purpose does it serve government to investigate such things except to raise one more issue to crisis level in order to either ban some foods or place another punitive tax on them?

I never argued that there was a good purpose, or that they should ban or tax. I just said that within the entire topic of freedom to decide personal bodily consumption, fast food is a weak focus.

Great blog Kate. I’ve been following this space for some time now, and I’ve noticed a definite trend. It seems to me that no matter the subject of the post, no matter how reasonable the arguement, some liberal pinhead will show up and disagree with everything and argue just for the sake of arguing.

BS answer. Deadbeats get stoned already, legal or not. Why would you have to ‘subsidize’ anybody by legalizing Cannabis? Legal Cannabis would bring in big bucks from similar taxes as those on Tobacco.
