  1. I received an e-mail today from Cair-Can. They explain that people are outraged all over the country. A quote from the letter-“to building
bridges between all Canadians”. I think he had help from the NDP writing this,or he helps the NDP.

.notice the groups that have signed this letter, hmmm.

  2. Globe and Mail, Tuesday, John Doyle. CBC full of fluff. Not unlike certain columnists’ brains.
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/television/john-doyle/enough-with-the-fluff-cbc-is-top-heavy-with-lightweight-shows/article1741731/
“Two one-hour dramas and acres of reality, lifestyle TV plus several half-hour comedies does not a public broadcaster make. There’s fluff all over the other channels.”
So what does a “public broadcaster” make? Who writes the rules for them – a “public intellectual”, i.e., a person with a superiority complex who thinks he knows better than everybody else regarding how to spend their tax money on things they may or may not want?
The CBC is in a kind of damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t position, because if it puts on the “fluff” that everybody likes to watch, it gets criticized by the nose-in-the-air columnists like Doyle, while if it puts on the arty-farty stuff that no one watches, it gets criticized by the public for wasting their money.
Solution: sell. Enough with broadcasters allegedly owned by the “public”.

  3. National Post. Tuesday.
    http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/Codeine+could+lethally+toxic+even+small+doses+medical+journal+says/3623960/story.html
“The Canadian Medical Association Journal says codeine — a drug that has been in use since the 1800s — has never been subjected to the safety testing now mandatory for modern drugs, and that a person’s genetic makeup can leave them vulnerable to life-threatening or fatal reactions. The liver converts codeine to morphine. But some people are ultra rapid metabolizers, meaning their bodies break codeine down far faster than most, leading to a toxic accumulation of morphine that can be deadly.”
So why should the rapid metabolizers spoil the party for the rest of us? Why should everybody else be denied an effective drug because they can’t tolerate it?
Does it violate their “equality rights” that they can’t?

  4. National Post, Tuesday, Tasha Kheiriddin. Quebec’s entitlement society.
    http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/columnists/Quebec+entitlement+society/3623983/story.html
“When asked why the private sector wouldn’t build [a Quebec City] arena, [mayor] Labeaume admitted, without apology, ‘Ce n’est pas rentable.’ (It’s not profitable). But, he went on to say, the arena is something everyone agrees on, ‘Ils le veulent’ (the people want it) — and so the government should give it to them.”
It’s not just Quebec. The above is standard practice throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and many other places.
It’s Greece and France rioting in the streets for the “right” to continue consuming more than they produce, prodded on by the communists who, as always, will do anything possible to destabilize western society.

  5. I don’t have a link, but reading a financial column published in the Winnipeg paper with regard to US Taxation policy on the Estate due to the death of a US citizen married to a Canadian (or any foreign national). Only the Tax rates where compared
The fool missed the biggest impact to the surviving spouse if they are not an American.
THEY DO NOT GET THE 1,000,000 EXEMPTION, and must pay tax on the first dollar…that means selling assets…The spouse that keeps her nationality, because she or he can, gets to pay for that decision…

  6. Globe and Mail, Monday.
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/executives-see-innovation-as-key/article1741004/
Canadian executives give their opinions about the economy.
Q: What factors are important in explaining weak Canadian productivity?
76% – risk aversion among executives
    73% – culture of complacency
    70% – inadequate government R&D tax credits
    66% – high taxes
    66% – a weak research culture
54% – inadequate education and training
One of those answers isn’t far off, but the major reason for lagging productivity is that the system doesn’t reward people for improving it. Trade is for mutual benefit; a company that can find a way to make better or cheaper or more goods and services can make a profit in exchange for raising consumers’ standard of living – a win-win situation. But if the successful are taxed to support the unsuccessful through subsidies and other wastes of money like deadweight bureaucracy and handouts to professional malcontent activists, raising productivity is not rewarded properly so a business will then have less incentive to improve productivity and also have less profits to put back into it in future.

  7. Liberal socialist McGuinty: a disillusioned socialist/modernist dead-ender.
Impossible, unreal utopian dreams/visions bring McGuinty down to earth: splat.
    McGuinty’s dilemma:
“*The origins of Modernism lie in disillusion or, more precisely, in what the German poet Friedrich Schiller called “the disenchantment of the world.”

“Righting society’s wrongs still motivates McGuinty
Dalton McGuinty says it took one glance at the jarring photograph on the front page of the Toronto Star to underscore his determination to win a third term in office.
Despite troubling poll number and rumours of a pending resignation, the premier insisted Tuesday he remains passionate about righting wrongs in society.
“What about that retirement home story? What about that gentleman that was pictured on the ground helpless? What if that was your father or your mother?” McGuinty said, referring to the undercover investigation of a Toronto retirement home published last Friday
“There’s still more work to be done, obviously.””

Survey finds half of 2008 voters might not go to polls this year”
“In this photo from June 19, 2009, President Obama delivers remarks at the Esperanza National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast and Conference in Washington. Mr. Obama’s once solid support among Hispanics is showing a few cracks, a troubling sign for Democrats desperate to get this critical constituency excited about helping the party hold onto Congress this fall. 11. “What the Conservatives said was true; the coalition was planned well before the fiscal update of 2008.”
Yes — and what is more, Harper knew this, which is why he planted the “poison pill” (party funding) in his pre-budget fiscal update. I believe this was done to “smoke out” the coup . . . rather then allowing them to choose the time they felt was ripe for them . . . likely when the actual budget was brought down a bit later. This was a cynical and viscous move by the opposition — disloyalty to Canadians who had just voted for Conservatives with an increased minority. Harper takes a lot of flack, but they are all playing the same nasty game. Harper is disliked by many because is usually ahead of everyone re political maneuvers.

The Times of India ^ | Oct 6, 2010, 12.51am IST | Chidanand Rajghatta, TNN
WASHINGTON: WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama is likely to arrive in India on November 5 instead of November 7 as originally scheduled. He will leave Washington DC on the night of November 4 soon after the mid-term Congressional election where many pundits are predicting severe reverses for the Democratic Party. He will be away from the US for almost 12 days, one of the longest tours during his presidency, touching India, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea, before returning to Washington DC on November 14. 15. Mark Steyn’s coming! Mark Steyn’s coming!
Head for the hills — well, that’s his message!
    http://strictlyright.com/marksteyn/
As I’ve often said, however, what hills are there to head for anymore? At least the Desert Fathers could go into the desert. We’ve got lots of deserts these days (especially of the political kind), but it seems that although we can run, there’s no longer anywhere to hide.

  16. In the highly unlikely event that it ever comes to that, batb, load up the van and head for the foothills of western Alberta, especially the Sundre/New Norway area. Highly arable in parts (a bit acidic, but good for potatoes and grazing livestock), an armed populace and *tons* of fresh water.
Plus, a stunningly beautiful place to perish…
