Prof. Fred Gottheil told Front Page Magazine that he compiled a list of 675 email addresses from 900 signatures on a 2009 petition authored by Dr. David Lloyd, professor of English at the University of Southern California, urging the U.S. to abandon its ally, Israel. Prof. Gottheil discovered that six of the signers, who hailed from more than 150 college campuses, were members of his own faculty.
“Would these same 900 sign onto a statement expressing concern about human rights violations in the Muslim Middle East, such as honor killing, wife beating, female genital mutilation, and violence against gays and lesbians?” he wondered. “I felt it was worth a try.”

Considering late U.S. arms sales to Saudi and Egypt plus the humiliation of having to sit through more “peace” talks to nowhere with the Palis immediately after a grizzley attack on Israeli citizens, an objective observer would have already concluded that the current U.S. government has already abandoned Israel as an ally.
But.. but.. the only tolerance they approve of is theirs. And they are right because they say so .

The good news is that U.S. universities are under increasing financial stress and are having to make cuts. This may force them to reconsider certain programs which are little more than expensive sacrifices to the gods of political correctness.
Even in Canada, parts of our university system have become taxpayer-supported centers for radical political advocacy. Bout time to turn off the taps.

Fred, It’s not because they are entitled to be in charge, it’s that they know better than us. Just do as we tell you to, and all will be well. I once got into an argument with a friends new wife about the value of university, and suggested the only reason to be there would be for professions such as engineering, medicine, etc. and was rewarded with a beer poured over my head. Of course she had taken Phys Ed. Bsc. I know so many people who only went to uni because they just couldn’t face the real world and it seemed a logical extension of high school. Of course today with the lack of education in public schools, a uni degree is worth about what a high school diploma was 30 years ago.
Our present society puts a high value on a university
education. This to the extent that the universities have become
regarded as the only gateways to a moderately prosperous life.
It is a weird situation. Not all university programs are of equal value,
to put it mildly; and yet this is not recognized by parents, students, or even many employers.
I have never understood the “thinking” behind this. It has reduced university education to mere status seeking.
It has given university faculty a stranglehold on people’s lives.
This has corrupted the universities, and has largely destroyed their usefulness.
They are not even havens of scholarship any more!
And all this at a tremendous cost to many students, who are saddled with nearly
unmanageable loans to repay at a time in their lives when they should be most venturesome.

The education establishment has become a monstrous cog in the wheel of guild socialism. One hands over their soul in exchange for medieval torment until they are granted paper that allows one entry into a job market. Tenured academics, 95% of whom are statists, are the metaphysical equivalent of intellectual prison guards. Public funding and regulation of all education should be abolished in place of the free market along with all legislation regulating or licensing professions (voluntary standards and insurance requirements can fill the void). And as the late great Les Bewley said, “you could replace all liberal arts colleges with library cards”.

My daughter just finished high school and is working for a year before she starts university.
She’s strong in science/math disciplines, but her heart is in the arts which I keep telling her she would be a waste of her abilities.
I do have a bit of time to convince her, and this article and your posting will serve me well as ammunition for her need to try to avoid that type of “education” to move over to the more practical pursuit of a science or engineering degree.

I just noticed in today’s local paper that another leftist dhimmi is speaking Saturday at our local library.

All I had to do was google his name with the word ‘professor’ and up he popped. He’s a truther who believes the war on terrorism is a hoax and that Danny Perl’s murder was faked. Hell, Perl’s a (or was depending on whether the death was staged) jew, so you know, it was probably a Mossad thing, anyway.
In an attempt to if not iradicate, at least expose these muckrakers, I sent the following to our local rag:

Professor Michael Keefer of Guelph, Ontario will be giving a talk titled “Anti-semitism: Real and Imagined”, at our main library. Dr. David Lloyd, professor of English at the U. of Southern California and 900 university colleagues signed an anti-Israel petition, urging the U.S. to abandon it’s ally.
While attending a 9/11 ‘truther’ conference in Vancouver, Professor Keefer described the war on terrorism as “fraudulent and spurious” and said he believes the Toronto 18 (who as the Toronto 7, pled guilty) were ‘framed’. He also believes that the beheading of Daniel Perl was faked.
Based on his own statements, it would seem reasonable in assuming that Professor Keefer would be comfortable in signing the anti-Israel petition. 675 of the 900 anti-Israel signatories were later contacted and asked to sign a petition condemning honor killing, wife beating, genital mutilation and violence against gays. Yet only 27 academics or less than 5%, were willing to do so.
We have only one ally in the middle-east, a vibrant modern democracy. Professor Keefer must be asked whether the attacks on Madrid, Bali, Buenos Aires, London, Kenya, New York, Beslan and those planned for Ottawa were also ‘staged’, whether tiny Israel really has anything to worry about and if he supports Israel’s right to self defence.
