Tonight’s amusement en route to the Tips is a bit of a rarity: a song that expresses a conservative viewpoint. It’s a bit corny, but here, by an SDA reader’s request, is Tea Party member and lifelong conservative Ray Stevens (most famous, perhaps, for his 1970 hit Everything Is Beautiful, and for novelty songs like Gitarzan and The Streak) singing Come to the USA.

  4. ezra takes it directly to the cbc – talking up the contrasts between the riches of alberta and the riches of say – for example – saudi arabia, nigeria, somalia, and/or for that matter, venezuela.
    the comments are good terrain for spotting unicorns, utopians and individuals who had hearing problems even before the grey matter went through their eardrums.

    They will only deport convicted felons…
    Every illegal alien gets a free rape, murder, etc. which must be then litigated at STATE taxpayers dime..They are refusing to allow States to prevent Crime…
    The 9/11 Commission High lighted that (prior to 9/11) the same Lawyer dream plan (Democrat) was that the FBI was not to prevent but to collect evidence of a crime.. The Acting director of the FBI had notified all FBI staff to get lots of sleep before 9/11..they knew they would be busy.

  8. Over the years a lot of suspicion has built up across the country about Washington and its population of opportunistic transients coming to see themselves as a special kind of person, somehow above average working Americans who don’t labor down in that monument-strewn former swamp.
    Well, finally, an end to all those undocumented doubts. Thanks to some diligent digging by the Washington Post, those suspicions can at last be put to rest.

    “CBC/Radio-Canada lawyers went to court in Montreal to plead that their Crown corporation not be subject to the Access to Information Act (AIA) like all other federal institutions.
    “The CBC has been bound by the AIA since 2007. However, it systematically applies a legal provision to reject requests for information arguing that these jeopardize its journalistic, creative or programming activities.
    “The Office of the Information Commissioner challenges this interpretation and wants to see the documents requested before judging if the loophole applies. The CBC refuses.”

    German airforce grounds Eurofighters over glitch
    (Reuters) – Germany’s air force has grounded all its Eurofighter combat aircraft due to problems with their ejector seats, a Defence Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
    Experts from the air force, or Luftwaffe, were working with manufacturers to sort out the issue after it was discovered that the seats’ operation could not be guaranteed under certain conditions, the spokesman added.
    The Luftwaffe has 55 Eurofighters, built by European aerospace group EADS. The ministry said it was not clear when they would return to active service.
    U.S.-built Phantom jets had been mobilised to ensure monitoring of Germany’s airspace while the Eurofighters are grounded, the spokesman added.

    “But the decision by 38 Ontario conservatives — including three former provincial Toy Cabinet ministers, two senators and a regional vice president of the Ontario P.C. Party — to publicly and enthusiastically endorse George Smitherman could actually have an effect.
    Not on who becomes mayor of Toronto, mind you. Torontonians are too smart to ascribe any particular importance to the opinions of forgettable Queens Park has-beens and party apparatchiks.
    However, the conservative endorsement letter — which de-emphasizes Smitherman’s complicity in the eHealth debacle and calls the career Liberal mayoral candidate “fair” and “thoughtful” — is not going to endear Tim Hudak’s up-and-coming Tories to Ontario’s fed-up conservative voters. They’ve had it with Dalton McGuinty, and they’re finally rid of the not-so-conservative dithering John Tory. All they want is a real, reasonable conservative leader such as Hudak to get behind. But now they’re going to be wondering what Mr. Hudak’s party actually stands for if its idea of an ideal candidate for office is George Smitherman.
    None of this is Tim Hudak’s fault. He didn’t sign the endorsement, and he can’t control what the 38 people who did choose to sign it do with their lives. But it’ll now be hard not to associate the Ontario P.C. Party as a whole with the nauseating Smitherman boosting — and the reminder that all the shouting and outrage that gets displayed at Queens Park is actually meaningless posturing. Why else would the Tory Smitherman fans say in their letter: “Thankfully in municipal politics, party lines don’t get in the way of supporting the best candidate for the job.”
    The clear implication is that in other levels of politics, party lines do get in the way of supporting the best candidate for the job. And that over the years, these Tories have cynically opposed and criticized politicians whom they actually thought would have been great — but who happened to belong to the wrong party. And all that Tory grilling of George Smitherman while he was a provincial Cabinet minister? Just part of the act.
    Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the Ontario P.C.s.”

    “When the New York Times pleaded with the public,in an editorial to reject the “wacky” Tea Party candidates, it must have been before they heard from Harry Reid. The Senate Majority Leader asked voters to cast their ballot for his “pet”, Chris Coons.
    Alternatively, the NYT may have a different definition of “wacky”. Coons is running against Palin-endorsed Christine O’Donnell for US Senator in Delaware. Reid said of his preferred candidate:
    “I’m going to be very honest with you — Chris Coons, everybody knows him in the Democratic caucus. He’s my pet. He’s my favorite candidate,” Reid said.
    “Let me tell you about him: A graduate of Yale Divinity School. Yale Law School. A two-time national debate champion. He represents two-thirds of the state now, in an elected capacity. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen him or heard him speak, but he is a dynamic speaker. I don’t mean loud or long; he’s a communicator. So that’s how I feel about Delaware. I’ve always thought Chris Coons is going to win. I told him that and I tried to get him to run. I’m glad he’s running. I just think the world of him. He’s my pet.”
    Reid’s supposed gravitas is in contrast to the “toxic” Tea Party candidates, who are the new barbarians at the gates. “Defeating this new crop of Tea Party nominees has become imperative to avoid the sense of national embarrassment from each divisive and offensive utterance, each wacky policy proposal.” The NYT wrote in scarcely concealed disgust that:” (more)

  22. I wasted an hour today watching “Power Play” on CTV. I was never a big fan of Tom Clark,but he is light years ahead of Jane Taber. Anyways ,there was a lot of time spent on the gun registry. Not once did Taber mention a CTV poll done in conjunction with Sunday’s QP show. This poll has 94% of respondents wanting the registry to be abolished.http://www.ctv.ca/qp/

    In a firmer-than-usual bit of pushback, the White House also referred reporters to the French Embassy for further clarification
    The French Embassy released a statement that Bruni-Sarkozy “distances herself completely” from the book, which is due out Friday.”
