Curious as to why this is postworthy on SDA. Is there speculation he’s headed to a new FAR RIGHT national news network that has yet to set up a mic?
I am SO hoping this “far right” news network, as Strangelove puts it, gets off the ground. The hawking of conservatives out of the liberal grindhouse will be sweet indeed.
Re: “Curious as to why this is postworthy on SDA”
Are we not glad to see him go?
Suppose he was shocked that he did not get Robertson’s job?
Perhaps there is a shakeup of CTV personalities – it would appear that its long overdue. Regarding Tom Clark – he ain’t no conservative – maybe red but not true blue. cheers
Conan O’Brien, Kevin Newman, Tom Clark — what is it with this exodus of half-century talents?
Is this some sort of rapture we weren’t told about?
Will they all appear somewhere together, like Madame Tussaud’s? Or is that where they came from in the first place?
Oddly enough, yours truly was interviewed by a very young Tom Clark at the end of some charity canoe race in March, 1973 — ah we were much younger then and so was Lloyd Robertson, I think he was only in his early sixties. The interview was basically, “what are you, nuts?” and my predictable answer.
Once Tommy Boy didn’t get Lloyd’s chair at the adult’s table he figured why waste more time at CTV … look for a nice, secure govt gig like TVO in his future … or “media relations” for Iggy. He’s just another predictable media liberal with a more expensive hair cut and whiter teeth.
He looked the same in 1973 as he does today.
I wish I did.
He better not be heading over to Sun TV, LOL…it will have lost all credibility before it even gets started if that is the case….
Well, Dr. S, it’s Kate blog so, it’s postworthy because Kate says it is. No further explanation required.
if i had a choice between Taber, McCharles, Westin or Clark
Iam going to have to go with Clark, And i do hope he does sign with Sun TV.
Reports are now on NNW that Taber is the fav for the job.
I think that Kate should repost her”complaint proceedure”once in a while so as to remind people that this is her blog, giving them every opertunity to raise complaints,if they follow the rules..
I disagree with some of the comments about Tom Clark.
True he worked for CTV (but so did Mike Duffy, who is now a conservative senator). It was said that Mike worked under constraints put on all CTV journalists by the head (liberal) honchos of CTV.
When you see the Ol’Duff now there is no doubt of his conservative leanings. Maybe Clark did leave because he was passed over, then again maybe not I believe it will all come out in the wash soon enough.
ctv disappeard tom clark on my computer.
how find power and archives.
CTV is a ship barely a float. Only liberal wishes keeps it on water. Its become a sort of caricature of a TV buisness. Kinda like the fictional sit comm TV station, but in real life.
That should suffice for a good enough reason for leaving.
No one wants to stay type cast.
My guess is that the persistent Ottawa rumoured liaison between Tom Clark and Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay cast GlobeMedia information gatekeepers totally as the second Liberal Party mouthpiece right next to the lefties to the CBC.
I doubt if FOX NOrth would ever seriously consider Clark as a conservative host.
In the recent weeks, there’s been a fair number of people in the Canadian media that have lost their jobs although I’m referring more to print. I really wouldn’t put more into it than the current players have been losing their shirts, some companies are trying to cut their costs more than others, and there is a new company, SUN-Tv that may have a business model that will work. I couldn’t say the same for the current crop of brain trust at the CTV.
It hasn’t been reported regarding the print company job losses. but these guys were given severance payouts…
I had to Google Tom Clark to find out who he was. I haven’t watched Canuck TV news in years. I get most of my news online, and the majority of that from the Fox web site. I find waiting for someone to read the news to me too slow and cumbersome, I’d rather read it off a page.
Truth be told, I find the most interesting tidbits through blogs like Kate’s, Kathy Shaidle’s, or Nick (The Flea) Packwood’s. Maybe they still watch network news at the old folks home?
My query was neither complaint nor criticism. I thought Kate was hinting at something larger than the story on the face of it. Sorry if I have offended some of you.
Who is Tom Clark? What is he noted for?
Freddy … Tom Clark is/was a CTV Ottawa commentator for decades. He is “noted for” staying young-looking and ‘not aging’ for about as long as Dick Clark did … and if you don’t know who Dick Clark is, you really do have to get out more.
I hear you Sean.
Who’s Tom, Dick or Harry Clark?
Sean
You hit the nail on the head, watching TV news is for the old folks home, or, it seems, the talkign heads are reading to 2nd graders.
The level of professionalism is sadly lacking. Between pro-Liberal stories, anti-CPC yellow journo pieces, rabbit and puppy stories, and “Oh, look it’s a celebrity” pieces, there’s just nothing there to watch. No wonder the ratings are sinking like a rat-infested ship……
Home and sick today, but, noticing daytime TV on the US (and Canaduh) news stations, it’s a sad joke. Every single station has the ‘sexy young thang’ hostess…..no need for any hard hitting news, just look at the eye candy with the ‘twink’ in her eye…..
DanBC
NFL network dude:)
Soon… we won’t need any of these guys…Brett Favre for POTUS
Please don’t turn over the show to Giggles (I’m really a Liberal) Taber.
Tom and Joe are cousins although Joe is a bit removed.
Joining a Far Right network to be named later? I was going to ask if there was an opening at the Socialist Worker he was filling.
I’m thinkin ratings must have been pretty bad after Duffy ??? In fact interviewing ,pre boink the indignant greasy haired liberal chick every single bloody night certainly had to affect viewers numbers.Taber has the same boring style and format.
The Tom Clark that I have witnessed is a long way from hosting any SunTV moment. Just can’t see that one at all. I vaguely remember reading about his pedigree but didn’t take the time to google (my bad). Seems to me he comes from the Lib side of the equation. Certainly, his Ottawa based commentary seems to reflect that.
SunTV Tom?
I may have to eat my words, but I just can’t see Tom Clark at SunTV, unless he’s had a recent conversion to conservatism.
I didn’t find him particularly sympathetic to CPC members. OTOH, in the last few months of Power Play, he was asking some pretty pointed questions of the lefties.
It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up. He’s got lots of contacts and 40 years of media experience — not to mention the silver spoon bestowed upon him by the Clark media dynasty: Joseph T. Clark, great-grandfather, editor of Saturday Night, editor-in-chief of the Toronto Star; grandfather, a reporter for the TorStar; Joseph Clark, father, founder and head of Canada News Wire; Greg Clark, great-uncle, renowned Canadian journalist, writer, and humorist.
I am not sorry to see that Tom Clark has gone. I wish fervently that Jane Taber would not be far behind. Craig Oliver, too and any number of CTV, CBC and Global talking heads. Most of them are not worth a pinch.
Only rarely do I catch Clark on Power Politics, and when I do, I’m often off put by the leftist slant, but I wonder if that might be more of the CTV institutional bias coming across?! Every once in a while he does slip in a dinger against the progressives.
If he’s getting it on with Martha, Hey, you da Man! but remember, we saw what happened to Tiger when he let the wrong head do the thinking.
And btw, you used to be blond, didn’t you? Yeah, I thought so.
Interesting to see what develops.
Hannity was at his best with Colmes (judging by YouTube clips, of course.)
I’m so glad I live close to the border, where I can watch 35 stations from the U.S. for free on my ChannelMaster rotary antenna, half of them uncompressed High Def.
I don’t pay no stinking CRTC tax to the cable or satellite company. I don’t watch no stinking CBC. I don’t know no Tom Clark.
Made the mistake of listening to CKNW 980 (Vancouver) this a.m. while getting the kids off to school…..all I heard was “emissions, going green, my car barely has any emissions, chevy volt, green green….”
Enough. Switched back to 790 Bellingham WA.
I can’t handle any broadcasting coming from Canada anymore! SunTV has a lot to live up to.
I haven’t watched the political gabfest format on CTV since the old Duff left. I was having a cocktail with someone long forgotten in the rooftop bar of Toronto’s Park Plaza hotel in the late 70’s and saw Tommy at another table. I couldn’t get over how short he was. He strikes me as a dyed in the wool lib who would be a terrible hire for SUN TV. These talking heads have huge egos, and Lisa Laflamme getting Lloyd’s gig was likely to much to bare. Laflamme’s protestor-friendly over the top G20 rants are indicative of what CTV viewers can expect.
“Made the mistake of listening to CKNW 980”
Ohhhhhh I know what you mean . . . Bill good is just so downtown latte greenie wannbe liberal . . totally nauseating. Can’t listen to him because the gag reflex is too strong.
He’s just gets worse and worse as his career gets closer to oblivion, I mean retirement.
I’m with you soccermom, KGMI Bellingham for me too. Rush in the Am then Beck in the afternoon. I simply cannot listen to Bill Good (stealing on from Rush) – the man is Ted Baxter in his level of self importance, and not credible as a journalist.
As for where Clark will end up, my guess is at Al Jazeera – home for alot of progressive rats leaving the sinking Lib media ship in Canada.
I quit CKNW quite a while ago. Bill Good has lost it and when they have Michael Smith filling in it is worse than unbearable. He has the voice and presence of a newspaper columnist and that is stretching it.
mike on vcr island
Soccermom at 11:32. I also chose to switch from CKNW 980 to KGMI 790 from Bellingham. To me, KGMI sounds like FREEDOM. Whenever I listen to Rush or Beck or even Hannity, I wonder why Canadians are forbidden from listening. But of course I know the reason is that we don’t have full freedom in Canada. The left have taken over Canada’s State broadcaster and regulators in order to indoctrinate us. It is the same reason they will never give SunTV a fair chance.
I will miss Tom’s gig. I’m tired of hearing Jane Taber smash her watches, bracelets, and rings on the desk while rummaging through her papers. How unprofessional this is of her and the producers of PowerPlay! CTV is still leagues ahead of the ruthless unjournalistic bias of the publicly funded CBC, unavailable to many of its shareholders while now only available to those couch potato gurus who feel cable companies need more stimulus money for something they’ve already pay for. In all, national, quality, informative, neutral, unbiased, investigative, Canadian journalism is a lost art, and American news is largely based on hear-the-fear journalism. So politically correct and watered down, most TV news isn’t news anymore, rather opinion mills of self induced elitists, with fancy “friends” and inflated heads.
