  1. dang. We’re in MI – all news is about keeping these things out of the Great Lakes…looks like it might be a good idea…

  2. I have seen guys shooting these with bows (on video). I have heard about people being seriously injured getting hit by these things.

  3. You should see them jump when you put some current through the water . . . really gets them riled up.

  4. What are they? What kind of fish? Do people eat them or is there something peculiar about them?
The laughing hyena in that clip should learn to relax and develop a more controlled laugh. He sounds like a retard at the midway.

  5. Almost as good as the Fraser River this year with the 25 MILLION sockeye salmon run.
Who needs a rod and reel if the just jump into your boat.
Now I know how that multiplication of loaves and fishes works. Drop a net over the side and you may sink your boat!!
My neighbour was kind enough to give us one, of which we ate on for 2 days.

  6. Are these the Asian Carp that everyone wants kept out of “The Great Lakes” ? the ones that eat 40% or so of their weight each day and taste like mud?

  7. Yep, that’s some serious fishing. Just drive slow and the fish jump into the boat. Apparently they are not great tasting, even though they are eaten in China and Europe. Figures that a fish which will jump into your boat on its own wouldn’t be worth keeping.
Won’t be funny if those f-ers get into the Great Lakes though.

  8. If they get into Lake Ontario, Toronto will be happy, that city is now filled with carp eaters.

  9. Hmmm… do you still need a fishing licence if you only have a net (in air only), and not a fishing rod? How about if you’re hunting them with a pellet gun (like the skeet shooting reference)?

  10. You could use a bow and arrow or spear with that rich a target environment.
As I recall Shuswap boat launch had a large warning sign about Asian Carp so the DFO are obviously aware of the theat to local fish…

  11. Animal protein by any other name.
Convert them into fish food for the farmed fish industry. Fish fertilizer for agriculture. Cat food.
Dog food. No end of possibilities.

  12. Time for some serious culling of a species. Have an agitator boat in front of specialty boats with nets, all abreast and go down the river.

  13. Trouble is these crap carp are displacing the native species. With no known predator these things are like rabbits and frogs in Australia. So far the only thing stopping them from invading the great lakes and killing the recovering salmon and trout fisheries is the locks by Chicago. These locks lead directly into the Mississippi watershed.
p.s. I remember Lake Superior Lake Trout before the lamprey decimated their stocks.
