  1. But they look so ferocious I’m sure they meant well, but then, pretty much anything the UN does is useless.

  2. Lefties, you do understand that if you force the issue and Canada sends its troops to either Darfur or the Congo, they will take significantly higher casualties than when they were in Afghanistan..
    ..right?…
..and that we may end up doing a sh*t load of killing the bad guys..
    ..right?..

  3. I was a UN peacekeeper in Egypt in 1978. Our camp, El Gala, had Canadian, Polish and Austrialian troops. Our officers constantly reminded us that we were the best trained soldiers there (occassionally they said “in the world”) and snidely said the Polish solidiers were nothing but untrained conscripts.
Funny that when we went on guard duty (I was regimental police; gunners, tankers and infantry responsible for local security) we were issued an SMG with 5 rounds and we were ordered to keep the magazine in our pocket. For the uninitiated, an SMG is inaccurate on single shot (the heavy bolt travelling forward to the breach after the trigger is squeezed throws your aim off). It is designed for burst fire of 3 to 5 rounds each. So effectively we had 1 to 2 bursts available. Meanwhile our “poorly trained conscript” Polish counterparts had AKMs with a 30 round mag IN THE RIFLE and another 3 mags on their web belt. BTW they also had a bayonet and 2 hand grenades.
Canadians as peacekeepers? Live targets for the warring factions!

  4. Thanks for your comment Norm. You have my greatest respect. I have always believed that Peacekeeping was BS. You were sent to war with slingshots. Typical Liberal thinking. (Maby if we appear non-threatening?)
In reality, a word Liberals don’t understand, the enemy probably thought it was a trick.

  5. Kudos Norm, and thanks.
IMHO, leave the third world to itself and it will sort itself out over time.
We don’t need the UN domestically or abroad. Close our borders and take care of what we have left while we still have it, or we will eventually find ourselves in a third world soup with the UN as our masters.

  6. The description of the mission in Congo sounds like the Afghan mission, help a newly established government extend its power and influence over the country while fighting an insurgency, or is it civil war?
Anyway, please keep us out of the Congo…if we arent in Afghanistan then let the troops rest and restock, there are other conflicts coming.

  7. The UN couldn’t organize a screw up in whorehouse and Steve Staples is a moronic pacifist who doesn’t care a whit how many people have to die so he can walk around polishing his turd halo, mumbling holier than thou platitudes.
He’s one of those “peace at any price, as long as I don’t have to pay” morons who camp out at the corner of Stupid and Immoral streets.

  8. Canada should have no part in the UN at all.
The organization has degenerated into a club for third world cleptocrats to line their pockets and play at being relevant world entities.
Now just a collection of parasites who are in fact our enemies.
Stop funding the UN … stop giiveing creedence to their edicts…. stop feed the parasites.

  9. You can tell they’re idjits because they think we have enough guys to send to the Congo. Or a way to get them there, for that matter.
The main reason Harper wants to get out of Afghanistan is the whole Canadian Forces has pretty much been over and back two or three times, and they are all getting really tired and used up.
Maybe if Liberals hadn’t spent the last 30+ years gutting the Forces…

  10. I have my blue beret and a peacekeeping medal – and I can say with authority that the UN is incompetent and beyond redemption. It should die an abrupt death like the equally useless League of Nations before it. We should cut off any funding we send and resign if we can’t kill it. Oh, and especially for the IPCC, WHO, UNICEF and – wait a minute – why should I carry on and list every organization the UN runs; they’re all useless money pits and antidemocratic.

  11. Heh..yeah..my pinky would keep slipping over the welded stop on the Sterling, and I was nipped once or twice on the range!
I think I have mentioned it here before, but in the Golan, we only had Browning 9mm pistols and were told to keep the magazine in our pocket as well…and if you got into trouble?
You may be Flash Gordon, but I guarantee you that you would be long dead by the time your hand was even partway out of your pocket with your pistol magazine.

  12. kursk, aviator and norm….this magazine in the pocket stuff and ROEs were dreamt up by the enemy or bureaucrats/hippies who never never did a patrol or stood a watch in a combat zone…..
If you recall my opinion/suggestion on the proper implementation of UN ROEs….when ya come under fire, first shoot the UN observer and then carry on….. unless your ambition is to get your name on a cenotaph somewhere……

  13. I was looking at the holstered pistols of UN personal on a visit to East Timor recently.
No mags in the pistols period.
The UN is a complete waste of time and money, catering to the totalitarians of the world.
We are simply the money supply, and the useful idiots that allow it to be.
