  3. Muslim women have to want to change their society, having the West over their shooting their husbands, fathers and brothers won’t get it done. They replace them at such an astonishing rate the even the plague of rabbits at University of Victoria seems a slo-mo affair.
    I have lost interest in Afghanistan and it’s primate life-style. They are in an evolutionary process and will either grow out of their stupidity or not. We should not interfere with that process. We should only be sure to confine them to their own countries. That’s there are borders, no?
    With all the security we are paying for now, surely we don’t need to worry about another North American attack … should we?
    If they attack us again, why not simply attack them ten fold by air, but keep our boys and girls at home. No need to go there, just send the drones. That’s whey we have them, no?
    Those throw-back don’t deserve to have even one of out soldiers die for their insanity.

If you want a job in the socialist social services sector, you better pay lip service to this. Your treatment at the hands of your mandatory health care provider, the way your reams of tax documents get processed, the non-ability wogs you must face to get government red tape, are all in thrall to the progressives.
    So what if Afghanistan falls to the muslim fundamentalists? They have many eligible voting cousins in Brampton and Toronto. The oil they control is not used by my tribe, but by the spineless Europeans, and the Japanese. Let those people solve the problem.
    As for here, as a straight white male, all in all, I rather like the property rights ideas of the muslim fundamentalists. Those feminist dictated divorce laws are … not in tune with the global village, now are they? I will not comment on what the Koran says about abortion providers, abortion doctors, and abortion clinics. As for the other leftist factions, the aristocrats, the non-workers, the pension seekers, they too have a special place set aside for them. I am just a worker, I will keep on working. Them, no.
    Maybe it is time to have an open mind, and accept the opposing view, listen to dialogue, and celebrate diversity. Maybe if enough of the infidel tax spenders get stoned to death, in a tasteful third-world way, the tax burden upon taxpayers will be such that the economy can get going again. It takes four taxpayers to support one tax spender, and only one pile of bricks to make them free. The progressives think it is fine over there. Maybe it is time to be fine over here. Our misunderstood fellow global villagers in the muslim fundamentalist community can share their unique perspectives and non-materialistic final solutions to the social problems that afflict this country.

  14. The picture on the cover of Time was there to keep the troops in Afghanistan, not bring our boys and girls home.
    We need to see how desperately lost and depraved the Taliban mindset is, but they will not be won over at the points of our guns. This is an evil which cannot be reasoned with, it must be annihilated, utterly vanquished.
    They do because they believe. Change their belief system and they will stop doing. That is the only recourse.

Building an argument for leaving based on strategic thinking is one thing, basing it on bigotry puts one in the same camp as the haters on the far left. It’s too bad that some let their hate of Islam, extend to the victims of Islam.
    Furthermore, statements such as the above, made by someone who has admitted that she was for the mission initially only to spite the left, gives new meaning to sophestry … to think that any Canadian would happily send our soldiers to die in order to spite the left … then, turn and around and claim some sort of concern for those very same soldiers is repugnant.

    Lookie here Cjunk, nineteen year olds know nothing. Almost no one starts to thing critically until they reach the age of about 30. That is why you don’t see many 30 year olds joining the army to go and liberate the living dead. We disagree.
    You have a personal stake the outcome of the war in Afghanistan, so I understand your view, but being objective about this myself, I cannot see anything further that is any good coming from flogging this misguided Obama led quagmire.
    Our society is teetering on economic disaster, we have more corruption in our governments than ever before, we have more drug crime and unnecessary poverty, stupidity and obesity that we know what to do about.
    That last thing we need is to be a never-ending war trying to reform the 1.2 BILLION Muslims who have a much stronger culture that we now do … thanks to multicultural insanity and phony inclusiveness.
    Bring our troops home and let us get our own house in order so we can a least have a viable example of a sound society to show the Muslim world.
    They look at the plethora of tattooed, pierced. half-naked teen-aged sluts walking our streets, the obese walking around eating giant ice-cream cones and the horrid gay parades we have in major cities … what are they supposed think about us as an example for their society.
    Consider the huge number of single mothers, their kids running wild on the Internet and elsewhere in the real world … consider our idiotic educational system that teaches kids to pretend they are special and will be successful without competing for anything … I could go on, but I think you get the point.
    It’s a bummer about the suffering of the women in the Islamic world, but our women went through the Suffragette movement, then the bra-burning 60’s and now the women’s movement is led by a bunch of man-hating, capitalism-hating lesbians.
    See, humanity is a mess and that’s just the way it is. Only the fools on the Left think you can organize and control human behavior. That’s why we have a politically correct unwinnable war going on in Afghanistan. That is why I say end it now and let the chips fall where they may.
    I think the term is “Live and Let Live”. Those old chestnuts stay around for good reason. They state the wisdom of the ages. We should not ignore what we know.

  18. This is a horrible dilemma. We had an obligation, now fulfilled, to fill the vacuum created when taking out the Taliban in retaliation for 9/11. We can’t win this, only “they” can win this and “they” need the determination and resolve to do that. Issues to be weighed are:
    1. Many of our knowledgeable people on the ground there think that staying will eventually help “them” acquire the wherewithal to police themselves against the Islamofascists.
    2. Our troops are not conscripted, this is not Vietnam.
    3. Canada cannot do this alone; NATO is untrustworthy because the Euroweenies will only do KP duty not front line duty.
    4. Obama is untrustworthy as a leader of the free world.
    5. The families of our troops who gave the ultimate sacrifice do not want it done in vain (It hasn’t been. But we do not want more deaths to become in vain knowing that the prospects of the Afghanistans policing themselves successfully is an extremely high risk proposition).
    6. A majority of Canadians do not support more blood and treasure being spent there, it will consume huge political capital to stay.
    7. PMSH has said we’re pulling out in 2011; there is nothing on the horizon that would make that decision appear to warrant a 180 degree turn.
    8. On and on…
    In short, we cannot afford to sacrifice our own fragile Conservative government in the face of progressive opposition who are like the disarmed Euroweenies, they will not fight. Given the horrendous government in the USA, we have our hands full fighting progressivism right here at home or we’ll end up like America. The Afghanistans are going to have to put up a bigger fight to police themselves. If they do that, then in 2012 when the USA has hopefully returned to sanity, we can reconsider what kind of military help Canada can provide. Again, this is a painful dilemma.

  25. Want to understand how liberals spin this? You need look no further than the “diversity curriculum” text I had to read this past semester for school (yeah, I know, but I shut up so I can get a job that pays more than $9/hour).
    In the chapter dealing with Arabs/Muslims, it says something to the effect that these women are *not* oppressed because the social constraints under which they live require them to be “resourceful”; additionally, the clearly defined gender roles spare Muslim women from the “confusion” caused by the sexual revolution in America in the 1960s.
    Yeah, if you read that and it made no sense, it means you’re not a liberal (congrats!). If you need a boost into realizing why that’s ridiculous, substitute “Muslim” with “Christan” and you’ll understand how liberals would never twist themselves into such ideological pretzels to explain why Catholic women aren’t oppressed.
    But I still argue that the reason liberals give Islam a pass is not because of multiculturalism or diversity. It’s because they can hide behind radical Muslim ideology as said Muslims attempt to mow down and subjugate non-Muslims and specifically Christians. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, after all, and since things like the Constitution get in the way of the outright persecution of Christians letting another religion flatten us in the name of “diversity” works fine, too.

    3. We have a moral obligation to our children to prioritize our battles and the biggest battle we have in front of us is the fact we hand our 6 year olds over to Dippers ( see #1 as to how that turns out in elections in mega cities)

    This is coming to Canada if the Liberals and NDPs have their way. Moral relevancy and all cultures are equal, don’t ya know.
    I have mixed feelings about whether to stay or pull out. Thoughts that go through my head are as follows:
    This war is being fought in a boy scout kind of way and not all out like WW II was with the intent to win.
    The west is not sure if it wants to win.
    If we pull out, the Al Queda training comes will be re-established.
    If we leave they won’t leave us alone, as they do not want our corrupt and immoral culture coming to their country and feel the Allah given right to destroy our culture. This is the premise that Dinesh D’Souza makes in his book “The Enemy At Home”.

    You need only look at and assess the quality of ALL the western leaders — something we do here daily — to see that this project is doomed. Canada: follow the Dutch, GET OUT NOW. No blood for fairy tales. The greatest militiary machine in world history — the USA — which won WW2 in 4 years, can’t rout the Taliban after 9? Get it: it’s over.
    Maybe, just maybe, it could succeed with prosperous fiscal surplus nations and with the right leadership, over, say 50-75 years (but still a long shot), but just take a look at the appeasing, spineless, western political class — the ones slowly and surely installing sharia in our own lands, the ones supporting the genocidal “Palestinians” and demonizing Israel, and ask yourself how you could be so delusional as to promote this foolishness, now made manifest by the Time cover, always a timely contra indicator.
    As heart-breaking as that picture is, it’s not our problem or our concern. There’s nothing we can do about it. Get over it. And oh, we’re bankrupt.

    What was happening in Afghanistan, and several dozens of Islamic nations besides before 9/11, was none of our concern before 9/11.
    What has it to do with our mission there?
    If there was ever to be any hope of lasting change, then that hope should have ended when Afghanistan was permitted to be an Islamic Republic under Sharia Law.
    If the picture of that girl is supposed to be an argument for staying it is equally an argument for invading every Islamic nation where such things happen and that means all of them.
    Get a grip on the ramifications of that fact.

  32. Ken: Thanks for that. I too have very mixed feelings, but in the end I side with staying for strategic reasons. I do believe that if we don’t make Aisha our concern, that 911 will one day seem like a Sunday outting. Western nations have generally won conflicts by launching total war; it goes back to the Greeks. I fear that we have not grown past that … that dirty little wars like Afghanistan prove too icky, so we lose the will to stick it out … while total destruction of the enemy, including Aisha, remains our forte.

  33. I used to be for this. Now I’m not. WW11 lasted six years. This has taken ten so far and we are no farther ahead than when we started. We are in a fight to the death with Islam, what we see in England and France is coming to a town near us as we type. It is being funded and instigated by Saudi Arabia as we see in the ground zero mosque. We will win this war when we stop all Muslim immigration and start hanging people who we can’t deport who plot to behead our PM. If we can’t do this because of the “progressives” (which was a code word for communist created in the 1920’s) then the progressives must be destroyed. If we don’t do that the war for civilization is lost. No matter what happens in Afghanistan, if we keep importing Muslims at the rate we are we can turn Afghanistan to the most civilized model democracy in the world and it will make no difference to what happens to our civilization here.

    “The War” isn’t Afghanistan, nor Iraq, those are just tiny battles against Islamofascism which in turn is just one battle against utopianism. Other powerful utopians are in the White House and in Brussels.
    We conservatives need to define the enemy if we expect to win. The enemy is utopians and they are a lot more powerful than I used to think. First 9/11 and now the Obamarx gang have caused us realize there will never be a peace dividend.
    Utopians dominate our MSM and academia. Our war is against this progressiveness and we need to pick which hills to fight on. Obama has indeed changed the way we need to think about this. Our number one duty is protect our self interest in Canada and we are at a lot of risk against utopians.
    Meanwhile when we do pull out of Afghanistan we need to remind the progressives that the resulting killing fields are on their conscience, of course they don’t have one, that’s what makes them utopian.

    I suggest you spend an afternoon or evening reading the archives at Terry Glavin’s blog. He has spent a lot of time there over the last number of years and has worked with various Afghan people and groups, and he’s seen the progress firsthand. The usual suspects in the media focus on the – admitted – fact that the Taliban are still fighting, and they use that as evidence that there’s no progress, but in terms of security and quality of life for the (non-Taliban) Afghan people, there *has* been progress; it’s just a different measuring stick than the one typically used by the MSM. As Glavin points out, no one in the media is talking to the Afghan people, for some reason.
    There’s certainly a strong argument to be made that it’s time for other NATO nations to take over Kandahar and relieve the Canadians – I believe that should happen – but the overall mission itself should not be abandoned.

There is no such thing as perfect, so that can’t be an impediment to getting into other people’s business. Especially when they are so keen on getting into ours.

  40. EBD – Unless we are prepared to stay there forever, we must make them capable of fighting their own battle. That is what we are trying to do, from what I have seen without much success. We see the people we are training, kill our guys because they are really taliban, they sell there weapons to the enemy, steal as much kit as they can to sell to the enemy, and if the enemy pays them more they desert. When they are sent to the US for military training, they desert to Canada and declare refugee status. It might exist but there doesn’t appear to be much popular will to fight the taliban. Compare their behaviour to all the European exiles who escaped to Britain in WW11 to carry on the fight. There are tons of Afghan refugees in Canada, If they were joining the Canadian Forces in droves to get back into the fight I am sure we would here about it in the news.
    In the Vietnam war, the ARVN was a lot bigger and did a lot more fighting than we ever read about in most history books. IN Afghanistan I don’t see a large well motivated Afghan National Army fighting for their country’s freedom. Ten years after this started, its still NATO doing all the heavy lifting.

    I’d like to give every single woman and child 100 poisoned pills to place in tea when the Taliban men folk come acalling. I’d love to give the women the power to quietly kill those murdering fascists medievil tastards enmasse.
    I’m sure that’s deemed a hate crime under Section 13, but if I could I would give those women the power to kill every single vile medieval Taliban like male.

  49. Europe looked pretty hopeless in 1939 too. Maybe we should have left and not let one man die for the sake of Hitler’s manifesto of hate. England would have soon gone under without material aid. None of our business I suppose. Jews, Gypsies, commies, union leaders etc., what were they to us. I say fight them there in their own pig sty rather than in our own neighbourhoods.

    Agree with you that our troops are noble and brave, but would have to disagree with you as to why they are there. As you stated they are OUR troops sent on missions on behalf and paid for by the Canadian taxpayers. They are not a separate entity or individual who has the right to use our Canadian Armed Forces as their private humanitarian order. Otherwise they could have joined Oxfam or Blackwater or whatever private enterprise they wished to chose.
    Again they are our troops, and we do have a say as to whether or not they should be interfering in the cultural cesspits of the world or guarding our borders from them. That is why they were recruited and that is what they are paid to do.
