Actually, Tim, it’s not a war crime to execute captured terrorists. Only “Lawful Combatants” -uniformed members of an Armed Forces or “Civilians- may not be executed.
Under the Geneva Convention (readily available online), the third category, that of “Unlawful Combatants” -which includes terrorists, spies, saboteurs- may be summarily executed when captured.
So, if captured Taliban or Al Qaeda are being “dealt with under Regulation 5.56” as they say, it’s quite legal.
Say, wasn’t Barry supposed to the the last hope of getting the eeeeevile military tribunals shut down and getting proper justice for the poor innocent terrorists of Afghanistan?

For example, during World War Two, a number of German soldiers were captured in US Army uniform during the Battle of the Bulge. They were spying, destroying or changing road signs and generally causing as much trouble as they could. A number of them were captured by US Army troops.
If you’re interested, you can google and find photographs of them being executed by US Army firing squads, after extremely brief, non-appealable summary field courts-martial. Basically: “Yup, we caught this Kraut in the US Army uniform he has on now at the So-and-So Bridge.” “Very well, detail a squad immediately for a firing squad.” …Shortly thereafter, BANG! Quick and quite legal.

The numbers of detainees there are steadily declining as inmates are shipped out to destinations around the globe. While the Obama administration oversees the plea bargaining of terrorists out of the military prison new prospects are disappearing into the Afghan facilities and Bagram.
