How many bus tickets can you buy for $1.9 million?

Where are the parents?
I know there are schools available because I live in a First World Western country with subsidised public education and universal suffrage.
From reading the article, it sounds like the police are going to teach immigrant youth how to be better drug dealers.
They should send them to Vancouver then, because here the police have that sort of expertise.
They would be better off giving the money to some kids that do not break the law and are trying to become successful adults.
Here is one approach that still has not been tried where all the other types have, including this one, and they all failed miserably:
-LEGALIZATION
Enough to do the job.
It would be best to fly them to Moscow, however.
Great, it’s the old ‘I’m here from the government and I want to help you.’ (translation: we did a poll and don’t want to be called racist by you (media types, community organizers) so here is some money and a nice bit of media gobbledygook for your mushy brains to absorb.)
The Multi-culture mindset is the problem and increasing the number of community organizers will not accomplish anything except create fake jobs for our moral betters. Better to slow immigration to a tiny slow crawl so we do not create these insular groups. Somali-Canadians, Portuguese-Canadians, Lebanese-Canadian, Egyptian-Canadians – this is crap and Multi-culturalism (like AGW )is reaching a tipping point with regular people (aka taxpayers). Too many of our immigrants are really occupiers, place savers for the next lot. We need integration on immigration. Hello, Jason Kenny!!!
Time to run that Trudeapian train off the track and into the landfill because it is not recyclable.
Couldn’t they just join the already established programmes operating for the native population? Or is each ethnic/racial/religious group of druggies entitled to their own stash of cash?
anyone else read the article and get the sense this is happening because the somalis are getting in the way of the current drug trade?
as in lets give these people some “community support” so that the existing drug trade and go back to its normal system, instead of having to go to the trouble of killing off these young upstarts?
The article does refer to the pile of cash as “seed money”. So this is just the start of another terrific taxpayer mulit-cultapoloza!!
To be fair, Rob@dailyrasp, the article does identify the problem as Somali youth not properly integrating into the Canadian way of life.
As Mark Steyn puts it, though, I’m not sure there’s actually a distinctive “Canadian way of life” for them to integrate into, and I certainly don’t think it’s anybody’s responsibility save the Somalis to fix the integration problem.
That’s what you get when you send a pirate to do a drug dealer’s job.

Terry, we could also eliminate murders, by simply legalizing murder. After all, murder hasn’t been eliminated by it being illegal and prosecuted. (“Reductio ad absurdum”)
The purpose of criminal law is to make illegal and prosecute those committing actions that harm society, harmful to individuals and/or to society as a whole.
One way not tried is to go after the dealers and smugglers and give the b*st*rds real sentences-lengthy prison sentences, with no parole or sentence reduction. Only when you make it a high risk activity, there will be less people willing to go for the potential high profit of dealing or smuggling. By leaving drug smuggling and pushing as high profit/low risk activities, society guarantees their continuing.

Listen up Terry Tory, drugs aren’t illegal because the government wants to kill everybodys fun.
Drugs are illegal because they are DANGEROUS
I’ve talked to some people who have put a lot of efforts into helping Somalis integrate. They were frustrated, and it just didn’t work.
There is a massive cultural divide that was insurmountable – when they were done their food, they just threw it out the back door. They tried to cook their food directly on the burners of the stove. Etc etc.
I think we should open our doors to the Philippines, preferentially to some other countries. Philippinos have made great contributions to Canada, and actually seem to not mind feeling positively disposed towards their new adopted country.
In any case, it’s tempting (compared to 100 years ago) for young immigrants to come here with nothing – and see so much wealth around. The desire to get immediate wealth must be overwhelming. And drugs is an easy way to the top . . . . until it’s not.
I’m probably close to the truth in assuming Dave in PA and Mr. G never experimented, both having the typical mainstream preconceptions on the subject.
Where’s your natural Right wing view of self responsability and individualism with minimal social interference? Are you dark red Tories? Is there such a thing as a socialist Conservative?
Maybe it’s my Libertarian blood blinding me in trying to understand your position.
The war on drugs is over 50 years old and an abject failure that has only caused misery worldwide including innocent Canadian soldiers loosing their lives in the Ghan right now. Corruption in Governments is rampant everywhere too because of it…How much more money and blood are we going to waste?
“Drugs are illegal because they are DANGEROUS”
Mr G
Cars kill far more people than drugs. Still, People have the choice to drive or not and vehicles are not illegal either.
Alcool and tobacco (Both drugs) kills far more people than drugs in an equal amount study why aren’t they ban if they are so “dangerous”?…I’m just using your logic here.
Alcool was prohibited in the US a long time ago because it “causes too much misery” they claimed. It was such a disaster they had to relegalize it later having created huge organized crime syndicates in the process.
Dave and Mr. G; leave the bleeding heart sentiments to your moms and wifes and put your pants on fer Gawd sakes, your lefty utopian Police state world view is showing.
“Criminologists say the Somalis, many of whom are unaware of the drug trade’s unwritten rules and key players, are angering rivals and setting off turf wars and murders. Redford said the aim is to stop that from happening.”
They can’t even do drug dealing, so the proposal is to teach them how to do it properly? That’s very… Liberal.
BTW, why are there that many Somalis in Ft. Mac in the first place? They were brought in for their oil drilling expertise?
If Somalis are having such a hard time integrating into Canadian society, why are we accepting immigrants from Somalia? Immigrants from other countries also face cultural and language barriers, but they don’t become drug dealers.
Mr. G said “Drugs are illegal because they are DANGEROUS”.
Well, no. Not really.
They’re illegal because ‘waaaaay back in the late 19th century politicians got the idea that they had the power to forbid the populace from using drugs and alcohol on moral, Christian grounds. Also because more than half the male populace was sh1t-faced drunk by noon every single day. Like Russia is now, times two.
So they passed a series of laws forbidding all manner of things, culminating in the famous passage of Prohibition in the USA.
Sadly, it turns out that government does NOT have the power to stop the use of drugs and alcohol. Can’t be done. So after 13 years of futility, crime and corruption, the USA finally bit the bullet and re-legalized alcohol. But not all that other stuff.
Fast forward to today, government is still pretending they can prohibit drugs. And guns too! And being mean to people!
That’s why drugs are illegal. They’re pretending. With your money.
But you’re right, drugs are amazingly dangerous as well. Much more so than alcohol or smoking.
Maybe there’s a more functional solution than prohibition on one side and free-for-all on the other. A happy medium, so to speak. But of one thing I am 100% certain, p1ss1ng away two million bucks on trying to get Somali yout’s to “engage with the community” ain’t it.
If we’re going to criminalize things because they are dangerous when misused, then let’s criminalize alcohol, tobacco, guns, cars, pesticides, herbicides, knives, baseball bats, chainsaws, axes, nailguns, hammers, tablesaws, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, airplanes, hockey sticks, … oh yes, and especially dogs.
The “war on drugs” is a complete and utter failure. Legalization will remove the profits from the gangs. If there’s no profit, there will be no illegal drug trade.
Drugs are dangerous, hence being illegal. Legalisation is no promise for a safer, more responsible society. It’s giving in.
“Maybe there’s a more functional solution than prohibition on one side and free-for-all on the other. A happy medium, so to speak.”

How about if you abuse your body and mind on your own free will and get sick you have to pay from your pocket all your medical expenses and all other related expenditures…We would need to privatize healthcare first though.
Fact Mr.G and Dave in PA:
There is less per capita tobacco smokers in the US than in Canada…the reason being that your medicare insurance is much higher if you are a smoker in the US.
Ummm…..
Now think how much fat would trim off the sea of fat whales blubbering on North American streets if the same tough love was applied? Sure you can stuff your face with Big Macs all day but YOU pay for your excesses.
I believe a better way to engineer society is by making it free but totally responsible for their actions.
The whole exercise has nothing to do with the well being of society though…That’s just what they make you believe. Again it always boils down to:
FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL.
and let’s not forget one of the WORSE unintended consequences to come out of prohibition was turning Joe Kennedy into a millionaire and starting the Kennedy/Camelot sh1te regime!

$1.9 Million would go along way to fund WestJet flights filled with these “victims” back to a better life in Somalia where they could realize their dreams as Pirates.
Alberta is becoming nuts and the border needs to be moved more towards BC.
Did anyone consider that these Somali would be drug dealers have been sent out to make money to fund the Jihadis back in Somalia?
You didn’t? Apparently, neither did Immigration Canada.
Regular poster boy: “I think we should open our doors to the Philippines, preferentially to some other countries. Philippinos have made great contributions to Canada, and actually seem to not mind feeling positively disposed towards their new adopted country.”
I agree. In the many schools in which I teach, I’ve observed that the Filipino students are the most respectful and polite, across the board. They are serious students, they’re attentive, and they seem to be at school to work and learn — unlike many new immigrants to Canada from other ethnic groups.
Don’t get me started …
Oh, and did I mention, not at all coincidentally, that most of the Filipino students I teach are devout Christians? They are not ashamed of their faith and are very reverent in their religious observances.
Flips are nice people, trust me on that one:-))))
these somalis, are just doing as they did back in somali
Plenty of customers in Fort McMurray with money. Not wise stay in one place too long in that trade;hence, the migration from Toronto to Alberta.
Batb is right on! The churches, in Vancouver any way, would be pitifully empty without them. They seem to like us (genuinely) and they speak the language already, and are willing to do those jobs we aren’t interested in, or think beneath us, and they are really a happy bunch and you can’t help but love ’em back. Either way, I’d have you by the short hairs.

Oh Yes of course, all the Alberta taxpayers will need to pay off Samoli drug dealers imported from Liberal Toronto’s over infestation so that they don’t kill each other. Whatever.
What a crock of BS stating that these shits moved to Fort Mcmurry for work. They went there to sell drugs to the workers. Now everyone else is expected to clean up Toronto’s mental illness that brought this to our lands in the first place.
